Session House Plans to Open in the Former Scobie's Cafe & Bar Space in Dorchester

A new Irish pub is coming to a space just off the Southeast Expressway, and it will be replacing another Irish pub.

According to an article from the Dorchester Reporter, Session House is planning to open in the Adams Village neighborhood of Dorchester, taking over the former Scobie's Cafe & Bar space by the corner of Adams Street and Gallivan Boulevard. The article mentions that the upcoming spot will focus in part on live music (including traditional Irish music) and that it will offer elevated pub fare along with craft beer, wine, whiskey, and cocktails. If all goes as planned, Session House could be opening this fall.

Scobie's, which first opened in the summer of 2024, temporarily closed in February of this year for renovations, but apparently never reopened.

Scobie's Cafe & Bar Opens in Dorchester

Last fall, it was reported that a traditional Irish pub was planning to open in Dorchester and now we have learned that it is up and running.

According to an article from Caught in Dot (via the Instagram page for the place), Scobie's Cafe & Bar is now open in Adams Village, moving into a space by the corner of Adams Street and Gallivan Boulevard. As mentioned earlier, the new place has the feel of the rural pubs found along the West Coast of Ireland and that John and Anne Lydon, who own the spot, are also behind the Shamrock Pub in South Boston.

Originally, it had appeared that Scobie's would have a Gallivan Boulevard address, but now it looks like its actual address is 782 Adams Street, Dorchester, MA, 02124.

Scobie's Plans to Open in Dorchester's Adams Village Neighborhood

A brand new dining and drinking spot that plans to have the feel of the rural pubs found along the West Coast of Ireland is on its way to a Boston neighborhood.

According to an article in the Dorchester Reporter, Scobie's is going to be opening in Adams Village, moving into a space on Gallivan Boulevard that had been home to the Butcher Shop and Deli before it moved to a smaller space a couple of doors down. The post states that owners John and Anne Lydon (who run the Shamrock Pub in South Boston) hope it will be "a place where you can get a pot of tea and have a long chat with an old friend; catch a broadcast game from Ireland over an Irish breakfast or get together for a community fundraiser." The space will include a bar, lounge, two fireplaces, a snug, and a to-go counter, while the menu is slated to have soups and roasts along with pints of Guinness that come from a keg room equipped for traditional pours.

If all goes as planned, Scobie's could be opening in February of 2024.

Chubbs Taco & Tequila Bar Is Replacing The Industry Bar & Grill in Dorchester's Adams Village

A neighborhood comfort food spot just off the Southeast Expressway is being replaced by a Mexican restaurant, and the person involved with the proposed place has also been involved with a nearby dining and drinking spot.

According to a licensing board hearing page within the City of Boston website, The Industry Bar & Grill in the Adams Village section of Dorchester is transfering its liquor license to Chubbs Taco & Tequila Bar, which would open within the Adams Street space and whose listed manager is Kerry Santry of The Bowery in Lower Mills. The proposed transfer is slated to be looked at on Wednesday, November 1, so more information on Chubbs should be out by later next week.

The Industry first opened in 2017, replacing Sonny's Pub & Restaurant.

Blasi's Cafe and Fat Belly Deli in Dorchester's Adams Village Are Returning

A restaurant, bar, and deli in Dorchester that shut down a few years ago after being hit by a fire appear to be coming back.

According to a licensing board hearing page within the City of Boston website, Blasi's Cafe is seeking a license transfer to operate once again within its Adams Street space, with Kenneth Blasi being the manager listed. An earlier Facebook post seemed to hint at this, showing both Blasi's and Fat Belly Deli (which was affiliated with Blasi's) as part of an address update post, and we have indeed been told that Fat Belly Deli will be returning to the space as well.

Blasi's and Fat Belly Deli have been closed ever since a fire caused substantial damage to the space in September of 2017.

PS Gourmet Coffee to Open in Dorchester's Adams Village

A local group of coffee shops is going to be making a return to a Boston neighborhood.

According to a Facebook post from the business, PS Gourmet Coffee is planning to open an outlet in the Adams Village section of Dorchester, which is where it had a shop until it was forced to close due to a fire in 2017. It is not yet known whether the coffee shop will be returning to its old space on Adams Street or whether it will open in a new space; as soon as we find out more, we will post an update. (The post indicates that it will open sometime in 2020.)

PS Gourmet Coffee started out in the mid-1980s in South Boston as a coffee shop, convenience store and deli called Perkins Square Deli, with the focus becoming mainly on coffee about 15 years ago--and with it, a new name. The Dorchester location, which opened in 2012, shuttered after a fire hit a block of businesses in Adams Village that caused Blasi's Cafe and Fat Belly Deli to close as well. Currently, locations of PS Gourmet Coffee can be found in South Boston, Braintree, and Roslindale.

Blasi's Cafe and Fat Belly Deli in Dorchester Closed After Fire

A restaurant, bar, and deli in Dorchester is shut down for the time being after being hit by a fire.

According to a post from NBC Boston, a two-alarm blaze hit a block of businesses in Adams Village early Saturday morning, with the Adams Street block including Blasi's Cafe and Fat Belly Deli. The article says that the fire was self-contained, but it caused approximately $700,000 in damages and the businesses--including Blasi's Cafe and Fat Belly Deli--are closed for now. A Facebook post from the restaurant, bar, and deli mentions that they hope to be back in business as soon as they can, while thanking the Boston Fire Department and the Boston Police Department for their help as well as friends and neighbors for their support.

[January 12, 2018 update: A Facebook video from Blasi's shows that they now have lights in the basement but a lot of work needs to be done before Blasi's Cafe and Fat Belly Deli can reopen, including water that has to be pumped out of the basement and burnt-out electrical panels that need to be replaced. (No reopening date has been given as of yet.) Thanks to a source for bringing this to our attention.]

[June 8, 2018 update: A new Facebook video indicates that things continue to move forward for Blasi's Cafe and Fat Belly Deli and that while they don't have a specific reopening date, they hope to be open for the holidays this year if all goes well.]

Update: The Industry Is Replacing Sonny's in Dorchester's Adams Village

Last month we reported that a decades-old restaurant and bar in Dorchester abruptly shut down, and now we have learned that what we had heard last year about the future of the spot indeed seems to be taking place.

Eater Boston is reporting (via the Dorchester Reporter) that a dining and drinking spot will be opening in the space in Adams Village where Sonny's Pub & Restaurant had been until suddenly closing in late October. The articles say that the space will be completely gutted and it will be rebuilt as a new restaurant and bar that will have a "downtown feel and neighborhood prices," with the plan being to open sometime next spring if all goes well.

Last October, we had mentioned that it appeared a new spot called Industry might replace Sonny's and that Martin Davis (from the now-closed Littlest Bar in downtown Boston) and David Arrowsmith would be behind it, and while the two of them are definitely partners in the new spot, it turns out that the place does not yet have a name.

Sonny's Pub & Restaurant had been open for approximately 50 years.

Landmark Public House Soft-Opens in Dorchester's Adams Village

A brand new restaurant has softly opened in Dorchester, and it replaces a dining spot that had been in business for nearly 40 years.

Eater Boston is reporting that Landmark Public House is now open in Adams Village, moving into the space where Gerard's Restaurant had been until closing in March of this year. It appears that the new Adams Street spot is focusing on American classics and comfort food, with EB saying that the menu includes such items as soups, salads, sandwiches, macaroni and cheese, pizza, and some seafood and meat dishes, along with classic cocktails.

Gerard's, which first opened in 1977, was a family-friendly neighborhood restaurant that also offered classic American fare and comfort food items.

Sonny's Pub and Restaurant in Dorchester Abruptly Closes; Status Unknown

A restaurant and bar in Dorchester that has been in business for nearly 50 years has abruptly shut down.

According to several sources, including two people in the restaurant industry, Sonny's Pub & Restaurant in the Adams Village neighborhood closed suddenly yesterday afternoon, with a couple of sources saying it caught even its workers by surprise. It is not known what will be happening to the space, though last year we had reported that a new dining and drinking spot had been looking to take over the Adams Street space.

As soon as we find out more information about the closing of Sonny's Pub & Restaurant, we will post an update here.

Lucy's American Tavern Is Opening in Dorchester

Last year, we reported that a new restaurant and bar was looking to open in Dorchester and that there was a possible connection to a few other dining spots in the Boston area. Now we have learned that a restaurant with a different name is opening soon in the space, though apparently with at least part of the same team behind it.

According to a job post within the Craigslist site, Lucy's American Tavern is going to be opening at the corner of Gallivan Boulevard and Granite Avenue in the Adams Village neighborhood of Dorchester, with a check on the place indicating that at least one person from the Tavern in the Square restaurant group being involved. In March of 2015, it was announced that Sam Maverick's was hoping to open in the same space, and that it, too, had a Tavern in the Square connection. It is not known if Lucy's American Tavern will be a direct part of the Tavern in the Square group; as soon as we find out more, we will post an update here.

[Ed note: The address for Sam Maverick's had been listed as 489 Gallivan Boulevard, though the two addresses seem to point to the same space--the former Hollywood Video property.]

[June 10 update: Eater Boston states that Lucy's hopes to open sometime this summer, and that it will feature "approachable" American comfort food with such items as mini corn dogs, salt and pepper calamari, smoked wings, Cuban sandwiches, tacos, and chicken and sweet potato waffles being a few possibilities, along with 27 beers and 4 wines on tap.]

Molinari's to Open in the Adams Village Section of Dorchester

It looks like an old-school Italian restaurant is on its way to a section of Boston that is suddenly seeing changes to its dining scene.

The Dorchester Reporter mentions that Molinari's is planning to open in the Adams Village neighborhood of Dorchester, taking over the space that Eater Boston says was once home to The Beach House Cafe and Chateau Kabob. According to the Reporter, chef-owner Jeff Cincotta is planning to have the upcoming Adams Street dining spot be a casual Italian eatery with "old-world" dishes, including hand-made pastas, freshly-made sauces, and wood-fired pizza being mentioned. The 28-seat restaurant will include a small bar with beer and wine offered, pending approval of a liquor license.

A number of changes have been in the works for Adams Village and the surrounding area of late, including Gerard's Restaurant closing this weekend and being replaced by a new restaurant tentatively called the Landmark Public House, Sonny's Pub and Restaurant possibly being replaced by a new spot called Industry, and Dorset Hall in the nearby Neponset Circle area recently opening.

Gerard's in Dorchester to Be Sold; Liquor License May Go to Aloft Lounge in Boston's Seaport District

A neighborhood restaurant that has been in business for nearly 40 years is in the process of being sold, and its liquor license may be going to a hotel lounge in one of hottest sections of Boston.

According to an article in the Dorchester Reporter, Gerard Adomunes of Gerard's Restaurant in the Adams Village section of Dorchester is selling the business to three local investors (Ed Brooks, Russ DeMariano, and Christopher Roche), with the new owners planning to do a complete restoration of the Adams Street dining spot, though it is not known exactly what Gerard's will become as of yet. A licensing board page within the City of Boston website shows that the beer, wine, and liqueur license for Gerard's is slated to be transferred to Aloft Lounge within the upcoming Aloft Seaport Boston hotel in the Seaport District, with that place possibly opening in February of 2016, based on the hotel's planned opening date.

[November 11 update: Eater Boston notes that the plan is to replace Gerard's Restaurant with a new spot that is tentatively called K O'Brien's Kitchen and Tavern.]

[November 19 update: According to a post from Universal Hub, the restaurant replacing Gerard's may actually be called Landmark Public House, though this is a working name at this point in time.]

Adomunes first opened Gerard's in 1977, according to the Dorchester Reporter.

Sonny's Pub and Restaurant in Dorchester's Adams Village May Be Replaced by Industry

A restaurant and bar in Dorchester that has been around for nearly 50 years may be closing down, and a new spot is looking to take over the space.

According to a licensing board hearing notice sent by a source, Sonny's Pub & Restaurant in the Adams Village area is petitioning to transfer its business to a place called Industry, with Martin Davis being the manager of the proposed spot. No other information is given in the notice other than the fact that the new place is looking to receive Sonny's liquor license and that it would be open until 1:00 AM.

[October 14 update: Universal Hub reports that the proposed Industry looks to be a neighborhood dining and drinking spot that would not be all that different from Sonny's, though new features would include the ability to change part of the dining area into a private space for events, and the front of the bar being replaced by windows that open in the warmer months. UH also notes that Martin Davis comes from the now-closed Littlest Bar in downtown Boston, with the other owner being David Arrowsmith.]

Sonny's is a neighborhood dining and drinking spot that is known in part for its pizza and steak tips; according to our source, it first opened in 1968.
