Yellow Door Taqueria Adds Container Bar to Its Ink Block Location in Boston's South End

One of a pair of Mexican restaurants in Boston has added a new feature to its outdoor area.

According to a press release, Yellow Door Taqueria in the South End's Ink Block neighborhood now has a container bar at its outdoor patio, with the bar offering beer, wine, margaritas, specialty cocktails, tequila and mezcal shots, and more--and that the drinks are also available to go. Hours for the container bar are 4:00 PM to close Thursday through Sunday.

The Ink Block location of Yellow Door Taqueria first opened in February of 2020, joining the original in Dorchester's Lower Mills.

The address for Yellow Door Taqueria is 300 Harrison Avenue, Boston, MA, 02118. The website for both locations is at https://www.yellowdoortaqueria.com/

New Hotel Lounge Coming to AC Hotel Boston Downtown in the Ink Block Area

by Marc Hurwitz

It looks like a brand new hotel lounge is close to opening in a red-hot section of Boston just south of the downtown area.

According to various social media posts from bar manager Dennis Saint Aubin, a new dining and drinking spot is getting ready to open within the soon-to-open AC Hotel Boston Downtown in the city's Ink Block development. A message from Saint Aubin indicates that the space will be a "sleek, modern hotel lounge" that offers both food and drink, with some of the food options including clam chowder, New England crab cakes, artisanal burgers, Atlantic salmon, a bistro steak, herb-roasted chicken, and limoncello flutes, while craft beer, wine, and cocktails will be available, with a few drinks listed on the opening menu including gin and tonic, a smoked Manhattan, and a "Twisted Paloma" (Patron Blanco tequila, mezcal, agave nectar, lime juice, grapefruit soda). If all goes as planned, the new lounge could debut around March 1 when the hotel is scheduled to open.

Dennis Saint Aubin and Matthew Moore, who is the general manager of the new lounge, both worked at XV Beacon while Saint Aubin has been at such places as the now-closed Federalist and Abe and Louie's and Moore has worked at the Four Seasons.

The AC Hotel Boston Downtown (and the lounge) will be located at 225 Albany Street, which is between Traveler Street and Herald Street in the Ink Block area. Its web page is at http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/boscd-ac-hotel-boston-downtown/

[March 1 update: According to a Facebook post from Dennis Saint Aubin, the lounge at the AC Hotel Boston Downtown is now open.]

South End Open Market at SoWa Is Moving to Ink Block

A popular open market in the South End of Boston is going to be moving to a new location.

According to a Facebook post from New England Open Markets, the South End Open Market at SoWa will be heading over to Ink Block in the spring of 2016, with the note saying that it "will provide a bigger and more enjoyable space for vendors and visitors in one central location." It appears that the food trucks, farmers market, and arts market will all be part of the move, though no other specific details have been give as of yet. (The New England Open Markets site says "Stay tuned for updates."

The Boston Globe gives more information on this story, stating that New England Open Markets owner Chris Masci will be moving the market to a temporary location between Harrison Avenue and Washington Street by the western edge of the Ink Block in 2016, with its permanent location being set up under the Route 93 deck by the complex's eastern edge in 2017. The article also says that Mario Nicosia, who owns the Harrison Avenue property where market is currently located, is looking to set up a "rival" market, and that Masci and Nicosia are in the middle of a conflict that includes lawsuits and trademark issues--and they have not talked to each other since last spring.]

Ink Block is located between Harrison Avenue and Albany Street in the South End, a few blocks north of the present location of the South End Open Market at SoWa. The web page for the market can be found at http://sowaboston.com/sowa-news/south-end-open-market-in-sowa/
