Villa House of Pizza in Arlington Heights Is Now Boston Pizza and Curry

A suburban sub shop and pizzeria that has been serving Greek pizza for a long time now has changed over to a new place that features pizza along with Indian and Nepalese food.

According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, Villa House of Pizza in Arlington Heights has become Boston Pizza and Curry, with the website for the new eatery showing such items as momos, chicken tikka masala, chicken biryani, paneer korma, pizza, calzones, and a variety of sandwiches--and one of its pizza options is a chicken tikka masala pizza.

Villa House of Pizza was once located on Mass. Ave. by the Arlington/Lexington line, but it eventually moved a short distance east into the heart of Arlington Heights, and another poster on the Facebook group page says that they had actually been serving curry dishes while still being the Villa House of Pizza.

The address for Boston Pizza and Curry (and the former Villa House of Pizza) is 1367 Massachusetts Ave, Arlington, MA, 02476. The website for the place can be found at https://www.bostonpizzaandcurry.com/

Melting Pot Opens in Former Full Moon Space in Cambridge's Huron Village

A couple of months ago, it was reported that a popular family-friendly restaurant in Cambridge was closing, though a new spot would be replacing it and it would apparently stay mostly the same. Now we have learned that the new restaurant has opened, though it is quite a bit different from the old place.

According to a source, Melting Pot is now open in Huron Village, moving into the former Full Moon space on Huron Avenue. At the time of the announcement of Full Moon closing, a Cambridge Day article had said that new owner Bhola Pandey--who is also behind Mitho Restaurant in Winchester--would not be making any real changes, with Pandey's attorney, Joe Devlin, saying that "he's running it exactly as it is now....he's buying it to run it as [is], not to change anything about it." The article mentioned that other than the name change and an extra hour in business, no other changes were expected, but it turns out that the new Melting Pot is a Nepalese restaurant, with its menu showing curry dishes, stir-fry chili options, stir-fry noodle dishes, pan-grilled meat and seafood items such as wild boar ribs and goat, and more. [Ed note: The new restaurant has no apparent connection to The Melting Pot, a chain of fondue restaurants with locations in Bedford and Framingham.]

Mitho Restaurant, which opened in late 2018, also features Nepalese fare.

The address for Melting Pot in Huron Village is 344 Huron Ave, Cambridge, MA, 02138. Its website can be found at http://meltingpotma.com/

[January 31 update: According to a licensing commission hearing agenda page, Melting Pot is looking to change its name to Base Crave. It is not known if the requested name change has anything to do with the aforementioned restaurant chain with a similar name; as soon as we find out more information, we will post an update here.]

[February 3 update: According to a source, Melting Pot in Cambridge has officially changed its name to Base Crave.]

Gita to Replace Pelekasis within Wink and Nod Space in Boston's South End

A Greek pop-up restaurant will be wrapping things up in the South End of Boston this summer, and a new pop-up with South and Central Asian influences will be taking its place.

Eater Boston is reporting that Gita Kantrow (Journeyman, Rialto, Trade) is opening Gita within the Wink & Nod space on Appleton Street, moving in on August 1 when Brendan Pelley's Pelekasis leaves the space. The article says that the new pop-up will focus on Nepalese cuisine with influences also coming from Indian, Tibetan, and Western fare. A message from Pelley indicates that Pelekasis may be reopening sometime in 2017 as a permanent brick-and-mortar restaurant, and while he is hoping to open the dining spot somewhere in the South End, nothing has been confirmed as of yet.

Wink & Nod is a culinary incubator run by Boston Nightlife Ventures that features a new pop-up approximately once every six months.

The address for Pelekasis, the upcoming Gita, and Wink & Nod is 3 Appleton Street, Boston, MA, 02116. The website for Wink & Nod can be found at http://winkandnod.com/

[July 20 update: According to a Facebook post, Pelekasis closes on Saturday, July 30.]

The House of Kebab Replaces Yak and Yeti in Somerville's Ball Square

A Nepali restaurant in Somerville has been replaced by a new Indian spot, and it is connected to another Indian restaurant on the other side of the city.

According to a poster on the Chowhound site, Yak and Yeti in Ball Square is no longer in business, with a Davis Square LiveJournal post saying that The House of Kebab has taken over the space. The people behind Yak and Yeti are also behind The House of Kebab and also happen to be the owners of Kebab Factory, a dining spot on Washington Street that our sister site (Boston's Hidden Restaurants) has featured as an under-the-radar eatery for Indian fare. The review for that restaurant can be found below:

http://www.hiddenboston.com/KebabFactory.html

Yak and Yeti first opened its doors in May of 2010, taking over the space where Golden Jade had once been.

The address for the now-closed Yak and Yeti (and new House of Kebab) is 719 Broadway, Somerville, MA, 02144. The website for The House of Kebab can be found at http://www.thehouseofkebab.com/

Kathmandu Spice in Arlington Is Closing; Zhu to Replace It

It looks like a Nepalese restaurant in the northwest suburbs of Boston is going to be closing its doors, and a new dining spot is planning to move into the space.

According to a post in the Arlington Advocate, Kathmandu Spice in East Arlington is going to be home to Zhu, which was granted a license to operate in the Mass. Ave. space. At this point in time, very little is known about the new eatery other than the fact that the newspaper says it will be a vegan restaurant (keep checking back for updates).

[May 26 update: A note sent from Rich O's Ravings indicates that Kathmandu Spice is now closed, and that Zhu will indeed be opening in the space (it looks like Zhu will be a Pan-Asian vegan restaurant).]

[July 23 update: According to a poster on the Chowhound site (and confirmed on the Boston Vegetarian Society Facebook page), Zhu will have its grand opening party on Saturday (July 25).]

Kathmandu Spice has been a dining spot that our sister site (Boston's Hidden Restaurants) has featured as an under-the-radar spot to go to for Nepalese, Tibetan, and Indian fare. The review can be found at the following link:

http://www.hiddenboston.com/KathmanduSpice.html

The address for Kathmandu Spice (and the new Zhu) is 166 Massachusetts Avenue, Arlington, MA, 02474.

Tasty Mo:Mo: Is Opening in Somerville

A new eatery is looking to open in Somerville, and the name of the place gives away what it will be serving.

Eater Boston is reporting that Tasty Mo:Mo: is planning on opening in Magoun Square, with the Medford Street dining spot offering momos, which are dumplings found in Tibet and Nepal; the restaurant's Facebook page also mentions that a Nepalese food plate with items such as rice, meat curry, vegetables, chutney, and lentils will be available as well. According to EB, Tasty Mo:Mo: will apparently be a takeout and catering spot at first, but it could become a dine-in restaurant at some point.

The Eater Boston article also says that Tasty Mo:Mo: will donate a dollar for every plate of momos sold to the Food for Education trust, which helps feed children in Nepal.

[March 31, 2015 update: A new article from Eater Boston mentions that Tasty Mo:Mo: will have its grand opening on Sunday (April 5).]

[April 6 update: According to a Facebook post from the restaurant, Tasty Mo:Mo: has soft-opened, with its official opening being tomorrow (Tuesday, April 7).]

Third Eye in Cambridge Has Closed; Wasabi Is Replacing It

An Indian and Nepalese restaurant in North Cambridge has closed its doors, and it looks like another dining spot is going to be moving in.

According to a note sent from Rich O's Ravings, Third Eye on Mass. Ave. is shuttered, with a check on its website showing that it is down and a phone call placed indicating that its number is no longer in service. A sign out front says that a new spot called Wasabi is planning to open within the space; it is not known at this point in time whether there is any connection to the restaurant by the same name in the Natick Mall--or the now-closed spot at the South Shore Plaza in Braintree--so keep checking back for updates.

[May 27 update: Cambridge Day reports that the Cambridge License Commission has some concerns about Wasabi's opening, including issues that neighbors had with the previous owner such as "noise, graffiti, trash and the rats that come with it." The commission was also wary of a sudden change in proposed hours from the new owner and a proposed opening date of June 1 that quickly changed to July 1, along with a request for a new wine and malt beverage license, which the previous restaurant in the space had. The commission will meet again with the owner on May 29. (Ed note: The owner of the proposed Wasabi has run restaurants in Middletown, CT, Manhattan, and New Jersey, so he apparently has no connection to the dining spot by the same name in Natick or the now-closed place in Braintree.)]

[September 2 update: A new note from Rich O's Ravings that was sent early this morning indicates that Wasabi is now open in Cambridge.]

Third Eye first opened last spring, replacing Annapurna, which had replaced another restaurant called Ali Baba.

The address for the now-closed Third Eye (and upcoming Wasabi) is 2088 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge, MA, 02140.

Annapurna in Cambridge Becomes Third Eye

A Cambridge restaurant that featured foods from several Asian countries has morphed into a new spot with a new name.

Eater Boston is reporting that Annapurna on Mass. Ave. (just west of Porter Square) is now Third Eye, with the menu apparently changing from one that included Afghan, Tibetan, Indian, and Nepalese fare to one that includes only Indian and Nepalese now. Before Annapurna opened, another similar spot called Ali Baba resided in the space, with that restaurant being featured on our sister site (Boston's Hidden Restaurants) a number of years back.

The address for this restaurant in North Cambridge is: Third Eye, 2088 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge, MA, 02140.

Thanks to a poster on the Chowhound site for initially bringing this to our (and Eater Boston's) attention.

A Nepalese restaurant in Allston has closed its doors, and it looks like a dining spot featuring Asian fare will be moving into its space.

According to one of our spotters on the Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook page, Mt. Everest Kitchen on Brighton Avenue is shuttered, and a sign indicates that O Yummy Cuisine will be opening in the space. The poster also mentions that O Yummy Cuisine will be a Chinese and Japanese restaurant, based on the sign out front.
