Suvaai in Cambridge Is Opening a Second Location in Woburn

A South Indian and Sri Lankan restaurant in Cambridge now has a second location, with this one being in the northern suburbs of Boston.

A note from tatsuikeda indicates that Suvaai on Mass. Ave. in North Cambridge (which is still apparently called Curry N Wok until it officially changes its name) is being joined by another location of Suvaai (which is apparently called Indian Express until its name officially changes as well) on Main Street in Woburn, with the new location of the restaurant possibly opening this weekend or next week. Both the Cambridge location and the new Woburn location are run by the people who were behind the now-closed Biryani Park in Malden.

In addition to South Indian and Sri Lankan fare, Suvaai also has some Indo-Chinese dishes as well.

The address for this new dining spot in Woburn is 465 Main Street, Woburn, MA, 01801. The website for both locations of the restaurant can be found at http://www.snsmarketinc.com/

Update: Biryani Park in Malden Is Reopening as Suvaai in North Cambridge

[Ed note: This article was updated on August 19 to reflect new information, including a new name for the place.]

It looks like a Sri Lankan restaurant that closed in Malden earlier this year is reopening in North Cambridge.

According to a poster on the Chowhound site, Biryani Park is getting ready to reopen in the Mass. Ave. space where Curry N Wok had been until closing several weeks ago (and before that, Copacabana, Garden of Eat-In Pizzeria and Good Food Cafe). The Facebook page for the eatery seems to confirm this, with the address showing that it will be located in that space, though an earlier note on the storefront from Curry N Wok had said "We are closed. Working on the new concept. We will update the opening date soon." A Facebook post from Biryani Park indicates it will be opening this Wednesday.

[August 19 update: According to a note sent from Rich O's Ravings (and confirmed by The Boston Globe), the new restaurant in North Cambridge is not called Biryani Park after all; the owner of Biryani Park is calling it Suvaai, with the eatery focusing on South Indian cuisine.]

Biryani Park first opened on Route 99 in Malden back in the summer of 2011. The restaurant closed in January, though its food truck is still running.

Suvaai is located at 2378 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge, MA, 02140.

Biryani Park in Malden Has Closed

A Sri Lankan restaurant north of Boston has closed its doors, though it may reopen in a new location.

According to a note on its website, Biryani Park in Malden is no longer in business, with the post saying that "We are looking for a new location and hope to reopen in the near future." The dining spot first opened in the summer of 2011, bringing to the Boston area a place to get Sri Lankan cuisine as well as Indian and Indo-Chinese fare. It is not known whether Biryani Park's food truck is out of operation as well; as soon as we find out, we will post an update here.

The address for this now-closed Sri Lankan restaurant in Malden was: Biryani Park, 105 Broadway (Route 99), Malden, MA, 02148. Its website can be found at http://snsmarketinc.com/

Biryani Park Food Truck Is Up and Running

This winter we reported that a Sri Lankan restaurant in Malden was planning to start up a food truck, and now we have learned that the truck is indeed open for business.

According to posters on the Chowhound site, Biryani Park's food truck is up and running, with one location for it being at Milk Street and Kilby Street in the Financial District of Boston. The restaurant's Facebook page indicates that it is also stationed on Belvedere Street by the Prudential Center in the Back Bay, and one of the Chowhound posters says that the truck may be coming to Charlestown as well. (We are still trying to confirm this last location.)

Biryani Park, which first opened on Route 99 in Malden in the summer of 2011, offers a variety of Sri Lankan, Indian, and Indo-Chinese fare. The website for the dining spot can be found at http://snsmarketinc.com/, while its Facebook page is at https://www.facebook.com/biryani.parkmaldenmass

For those of you who have never had Sri Lankan food, there are now a couple of opportunities to try some in the Boston area, as a place called Biryani Park (see our earlier article on it) has opened in Malden, and soon, a Sri Lankan event will be held northwest of Boston and will include a variety of traditional foods from that country.

According to The Sri Lanka Association of New England, the 3rd Annual Sri Lanka Day is coming to Acton on Saturday, August 13 at Nara Park (just west of Route 27 and north of Routes 2A/119) from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The event will include music, dance, arts and crafts, children's activities, and a number of different Sri Lankan foods as well as teas and spices.

The event is free to the public.

Biryani Park Opens in Malden

A market in Malden has just opened what may be Boston's first--and only--Sri Lankan restaurant.

According to their website, S & S Market, Inc has opened Biryani Park, bringing to the area a place to get what one Chowhound poster says is Sri Lankan, Indian, and Indo-Chinese food. The menu at Biryani Park includes such dishes as baby corn soup, paneer pakora, sesame chicken, masala dosas, curd rice, goat biryani, dhal tadka, fish curry, lamb saag, and vegetable fried rice.

Biryani Park is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner. Hours for both the market and the restaurant appear to be 11:30 AM to 9:30 PM.

The address for this new Sri Lankan restaurant is: Biryani Park, 105 Broadway (Route 99), Malden, MA, 02148. The phone number is (781) 397-1307. And the website for the market and restaurant can be found at http://snsmarketinc.com/
