b.good to Host Charity BBQ at SoWa in Boston on Sunday, July 12, 2015

After being rained out last month, a local chain of restaurants is getting ready to bring a charity BBQ event back to the city once again.

On Sunday, July 12, from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM, b.good is hosting its annual Family BBQ at the SoWa Open Market on Harrison Avenue, with the event including food (burgers, veggie burgers, chicken sandwiches, salads, smoothies, Ben & Jerry's ice cream cones), Harpoon beer, music from local bands, carnival games, face painting, a talent show, and more. Tickets to the BBQ cost $25 in advance ($30 at the door), with children under 12 being free, and with all proceeds helping support local community leaders via grants from the b.good Family Foundation.

Battle at the Brewery - Dundee V to Take Place in Boston February 23, 2015

A culinary competition that raises money for charity is on its way to the Boston waterfront.

On Monday, February 23 from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM, the 5th Mick Dundee Pie Challenge (Battle at the Brewery - Dundee V) will be held at the Harpoon Brewery beer hall on Northern Avenue, with Boston chefs competing against each other for a championship belt along with the chance to give $2,000 to the charity of their choice. The MC of the event will be Patrick Maguire, who writes the restaurant industry blog "Server not Servant" and is also the owner of restaurant consulting company Maguire Promotions.

The event will include the donation of $2,000 to hunger relief organization Community Servings from the last Dundee challenge, which was won by Chin Kuo of Saus in Boston.

Tickets to the Mick Dundee Pie Challenge cost $60, which is good for up to four people and includes access to the event, 12 mini pies, and one Harpoon beverage for each person. (A cash bar will be available from 9:30 PM to last call.) Please note that tickets must be purchased in advance.

Chipotle Partnering with The Life is good Kids Foundation, August 11, 2013

A chain of quick-service Mexican restaurants is partnering with a group that helps kids this weekend, raising money for the foundation through sales in its New England stores.

On Sunday, August 11, from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, whenever customers present the flyer from the link below (or show it on their smartphone) at any Chipotle Mexican Grill in New England, 50% of proceeds up to $30,000 will benefit the Life is good Kids Foundation, which helps kids overcome poverty, violence, and illness. In addition, Chipotle is holding a "Text 2Win" contest in conjunction with The Life is good Festival, which is being held September 21-22 in Canton.

Six Non-Profits to Donate to The One Fund Boston on April 25

An upcoming event in downtown Boston will now be raising money for families affected by the explosions at the Boston Marathon earlier this week.

An email sent to us from 451 Marketing indicates that on Thursday, April 25, the six non-profits involved with the Friends with Benefits Gala at The State Room will donate 50 percent of the event's proceeds to The One Fund Boston, which Governor Deval Patrick and Mayor Tom Menino helped form to raise money to help families most affected by Monday's tragedy. The organizations involved include The Boston Bruins Foundation, College Bound Dorchester, The Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism, The Ellie Fund, The International Rett Syndrome Foundation, and Longwood Giving, while restaurants that will be participating in the event include Abby Park, Darryl's Corner Bar and Kitchen, Deuxave, Farmstead Table, Local 149, Posto Restaurant, Restaurant dante, The State Room, Tresca, and Turner Fisheries.

Restaurants to Donate a Portion of Sales to Victims of Boston Marathon Explosions Tonight (April 17)

A number of Boston-area restaurants will be helping the victims of Monday's explosions at the Boston Marathon this evening, donating a portion of their sales to a well-known local foundation.

An email sent from Image Unlimited Communications as well as a post from The Greg Hill Foundation indicates that dining spots in and around the city will donate between 10% and 50% of their evening sales to The Greg Hill Foundation, with the donations going out "immediately," according to Hill, who is a radio announcer on WAAF. The list of participating restaurants is growing, but currently it includes the following spots:

Friends of Boston's Homeless Beyond Shelter Gala Coming to the House of Blues, May 2, 2013

A benefit to help homeless people in Boston is returning once again this spring, and as always, a number of local restaurants will be participating.

On Thursday, May 2, the 26th annual Friends of Boston's Homeless Beyond Shelter Gala will be held at the House of Blues (across from Fenway Park) starting at 7:00 PM, with food, music, dancing, raffle prices, and an auction all being part of the event. More than 24 dining spots will be at the gala, including Ashmont Grill, Basho, Douzo, The Fireplace, Hamersley's Bistro, Sweet Basil, Tresca, and others, with Narragansett being the event's beer sponsor.

Tickets to the 2013 Beyond Shelter Gala cost $125 each, with proceeds benefiting programs from Friends of Boston's Homeless that help homeless people gain independence.

Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt Is Raising Funds for Boston Children's Hospital Once Again

An Oklahoma-based chain of frozen yogurt shops that helped raise money for Boston Children's Hospital last year is back at it again, with a fundraiser taking place through the month of April.

An email sent to us by PAN Communications indicates that Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt is going to be hosting special events throughout the month to support the pediatric medical center, with the stores asking customers to make in-store donations along with purchasing special edition Orange Leaf t-shirts. Blood drives will also be taking place through tomorrow (Friday, April 12) at locations in Andover, Canton, and Marblehead, and there will be special community-wide events at various Orange Leaf shops through the end of April.

Phantom Gourmet to Host Phan Night at the Revere Hotel, April 23, 2013

The Phantom Gourmet is planning another food-based event, and this one is raising money for a good cause.

On Tuesday, April 23, the Phantom Gourmet Safari Phan Night will be held at the Revere Hotel on Stuart Street in Boston, with the event going from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Phan Night will feature five celebrity chefs who each prepare a signature hot dog, with more food also being offered at the event.

General admission tickets to this 21+ event are $50, which includes admission to Phan Night along with food (beverages are extra). All proceeds will go to the Joey Fund and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation; more information on the fund and the foundation can be found below:

Super Hunger Brunch to Be Held in Boston, January 26-27, 2013

A food-based event that helps raise money for the largest hunger-relief organization in New England is returning to the Boston area once again, and as always, some of the most popular restaurants in the region will be participating.

An email from Rasky Baerlein Strategic Communications indicates that the 31st annual Super Hunger Brunch will be held on the weekend of January 26-27 to benefit The Greater Boston Food Bank, with area restaurants creating special menus for diners (prices are set at $25, $35 and $50 per person). Fundraiser at Mike's City Diner for New York City Folks Affected by Sandy

A food-based fundraiser to help folks in New York City who were affected by Sandy is going to be held in the South End of Boston next week.

An email from Baltz and Company indicates that on Wednesday, November 7 at 7:00 PM, Ken Oringer and several other Boston chefs will be at Mike's City Diner on Washington Street to help raise money for the American Red Cross. The chefs will prepare a meal of white truffles, oysters, foie gras, duck, and lobster (including wine pairings) for 50 guests at a minimum donation of $500 per person, with all of the money going to the organization. Chefs who will be at the event include Ken Oringer (Clio, Uni, Toro, La Verdad, Coppa, Earth), Jamie Bissonnette (Toro, Coppa), Joanne Chang (Flour Bakery, Myers + Chang), Jay Hajj (Mike's City Diner), Tony Maws (Craigie on Main), Michael Serpa (Neptune Oyster Bar), and Ming Tsai (Blue Ginger, Blue Dragon), with a raw bar provided by Island Creek Oysters.

Lovin' Spoonfuls Ultimate Tailgate Party to Be Held in Boston, October 28, 2012

An event that features some of the best chefs in the Boston area is returning to the city this month, and it will be raising money for a good cause.

On Sunday, October 28, Lovin' Spoonfuls will host the second annual Ultimate Tailgate Party at Sam's on the Boston waterfront. The event will include food, drinks, a live auction and more, with chefs such as Jamie Bissonnette (Coppa, Toro), Joanne Chang (Flour, Myers + Chang), Mary Dumont (Harvest), Will Gilson (Puritan & Co.), Andy Husbands (Tremont 647),  Douglas Rodriguez (Clio), and others cooking up high-end versions of tailgate food.

CJP's "Fast to Feed" Initiative to Help Fight Hunger in Greater Boston

A Boston-based Jewish organization has started a hunger campaign that includes the participation of three restaurants in Brookline as well as an online food delivery service.

Combined Jewish Philanthropies' "Fast to Feed" initiative has the Coolidge Corner Clubhouse, The Fireplace, Zaftigs, and DiningIn donating a portion of diner's checks to the hunger campaign if the patrons mention it while they are dining. 100% of all donations to CJP's campaign will directly support JF&CS Family Table and JFS of Metrowest's Lucy and Joe’s Food Pantry.

The initiative started earlier this month and goes through September 26.

Children Around the World Auction Coming to Down Ultra Lounge in Boston, August 10, 2012

A "charity date auction" returns to Boston next month, and it will be raising money for a couple of good causes.

On Friday, August 10, Anthem Entertainment will be hosting its annual Children Around the World auction at the Down Ultra Lounge on High Street. The event, which goes from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, focuses on the "auctioning" of men and women, with each auctionee coming with a date that includes dinner, drinks, and activity for two. A cocktail reception begins the event, followed by the auction, where women and men have the chance to bid on their favorite dates.

Proceeds from the 2012 Children Around the World auction benefit CHOSA, an organization that helps orphans and other vulnerable children in South Africa, and the Boston Police Department's community outreach program, which focuses on Mattapan and nearby areas and helps give youths opportunity and experience outside of their neighborhoods.

The event has a suggested donation of $10, according to the event page (see the link below).

Lovin' Spoonfuls to Raise Funds via Tweet2Beat Hunger Program, June 25-30 2012

A Boston-based non-profit organization that is trying to end hunger in Massachusetts by way of food delivery to crisis centers, soup kitchens, and other similar entities is looking to raise money via Twitter this week.

Starting today (Monday, June 25) and going through Saturday, June 30, Lovin' Spoonfuls is going to be raising funds by having folks use the Twitter hashtag "Tweet2Beat" to donate to the non-profit group. People who are on Twitter can simply post "Tweet2Beat $10 TweetDonate to @LovinFoodRescue" and they will receive a link to donate. b.good Family BBQ for Sidewalk Sam to Be Held June 24, 2012

A local chain of restaurants is bringing back a charity BBQ this weekend in the SoWa section of Boston's South End, with proceeds once again helping a foundation that is involved with the arts.

On Sunday, June 24, b.good will be hosting their 9th annual family BBQ at 500 Harrison Avenue, with food, beer, music, and art included in the festivities. New this year is an Iron-Chef style burger battle that will have b.good workers competing against each other. All money raised will help Sidewalk Sam and his Newton-based foundation, ArtStreet, which helps make the arts a part of daily life in Boston and beyond.

Anna's Walqueria to Be Held June 16, 2012

A group of Boston-area burrito spots is behind an upcoming half-marathon walking event once again, and the walk will include stops at their six locations (with the proceeds going to a good cause).

According to their event page, the 6th annual Anna's Walqueria will be held on Saturday, June 16 starting at 10:30 AM, with the 13-mile loop beginning at the location of Anna's Taqueria at 1412 Beacon Street in Brookline. The event is free of charge, and the food at each Anna's location will be free as well; Anna's will be making a $5 donation to The Home For Little Wanderers for each store that each participant goes to/eats at. The Anna's folks also encourage participants to make donations to the Boston-based charity (The Home For Little Wanderers is dedicated to ensuring the healthy emotional, mental, and social development of children at risk, their families, and communities).

Ice Cream Truck Battle Coming to Boston's City Hall Plaza April 12, 2012

Last week, a couple of ice cream trucks battled it out in Cambridge's Harvard Square to raise money for a good cause. And this week, the same two trucks are at it again, this time competing in the heart of Boston.

A press release sent to us indicates that the Ben & Jerry's and b.good ice cream trucks are going to be having an ice cream truck battle at City Hall Plaza from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM tomorrow (Thursday, April 12) to raise money once again for Back on My Feet, a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to creating independence and self-sufficiency within the homeless and other underserved populations. Ice cream lovers who show up at the event will be encouraged to make donations while enjoying ice cream from Ben & Jerry's and milkshakes from b.good. The winner of the battle will be the truck that raises the most money.

Last Thursday in Harvard Square, Ben & Jerry's served up 1000 scoops of ice cream while b.good handed out 800 milkshakes.

Eat Holiday Party Coming to Russell House Tavern in Cambridge

A fundraising party is on its way to a restaurant in Cambridge's Harvard Square a bit later this month.

According to wheretoeat.in, the Eat Holiday Party will be held on Monday, December 19 from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM at the Russell House Tavern on JFK Street in the heart of the square. The party will be focusing on collecting gifts for teenage clients of The Home for Little Wanderers, a non-profit agency whose mission is to help children and their families who are living in at-risk circumstances.

Tickets to the Eat Holiday Party cost $8, plus a $10 gift donation (gift cards are suggested), with the ticket allowing entrance to the holiday party where guests can sample bites from Chef Michael Scelfo, along with two specialty cocktails from St. Germain and Four Roses Bourbon.
