Old Planters Brewing Co. Is Opening in Beverly

A North Shore nanobrewery is on the verge of opening its very own facility in a former auto mechanic space.

According to a source, Old Planters Brewing Co. could be opening as soon as next week in Beverly, taking over the old McNeil's Auto Body space on Rantoul Street. The brewery, which will include a taproom, will be a big upgrade for the people behind it who started the business in a basement back in 2014. Currently, the beers offered by Old Planters include an IPA, a pale ale, and a double IPA, with their beers being available at various restaurants and bars in the local area.

The address for the Old Planters Brewing Co. brewery and taproom is 236 Rantoul Street, Beverly, MA, 01915. The website for the business can be found at https://www.oldplanters.com/

[June 25 update: A Facebook post indicates that Old Planters Brewing Co. has opened, though it is only open Thursday through Sunday at least for now.]

Idle Hands Craft Ales Brewery Finds New Home in Malden

The first nanobrewery to open in the Boston area has landed a new space after being kicked out of its previous home a few months ago.

Boston.com is reporting that Idle Hands Craft Ales has signed a lease to operate in Malden, with the Commercial Street space being more than three times larger than their original facility on Charlton Street in Everett. The article says that the new space will include a full tasting room and it might also have a setup where food trucks can be stationed outside the facility. If all goes as planned, Idle Hands could be up and running in its new home by the spring of 2016, according to boston.com.

Idle Hands was forced to leave its space in Everett in June in order to make room for a construction access road for the Wynn casino project.

The address for the new Idle Hands facility is 89 Commercial Street, Malden, MA, 02148. Its website can be found at http://www.idlehandscraftales.com/

[June 30, 2016 update: According to a Twitter post from the place, Idle Hands Craft Ales opens its new brewery in Malden on Thursday, July 7.]

[July 5 update: A new tweet from the brewery indicates that Idle Hands will have a soft opening tomorrow (Wednesday, July 6).]

Idle Hands Craft Ales in Everett Being Forced Out of Its Home

The first nanobrewery to open in the Boston area will soon have to leave its home because of the upcoming casino that is on the way.

Boston Magazine is reporting that Idle Hands Craft Ales in Everett is being forced to vacate the Charlton Street building in which it currently resides by June 30 so that a construction access road for the Wynn casino project can be built. The article says that although the brewery was given only four months notice, founder/owner Chris Tkach knew that they would eventually have to move and has been looking at new spaces over the past year--and they tentatively have a new space in the works nearby, pending the outcome of lease negotiations. It does appear that there will be a stretch of time when Idle Hands will have no home, so they are currently building up their inventory and will also be using the nearby Night Shift Brewery facilities until they can move into their new home.

[June 28 update: According to its Facebook page, the last day for Idle Hands on Charlton Street was yesterday.]

Idle Hands Craft first introduced their beers to the public in the fall of 2011.

The current address for Idle Hands is 3 Charlton Street, Everett, MA, 02149. Its website can be found at http://www.idlehandscraftales.com/

Enlightenment Ales Gets Ready to Bring Its Beer to the Boston Area

The "nanobrewery" trend looks to be continuing in the Boston area, as yet another little brewery is getting ready to bring its beers to local restaurants and bars.

The Boston Magazine Chowder blog reports that Enlightenment Ales is selling batches of its beers to such spots as Deep Ellum, Eastern Standard, L'Espalier, Atwoods, and Russell House Tavern, with the beers being offered sometime in early June. The Chowder blog mentions that the Somerville-based nanobrewery will be offering a beverage called "biere de champagne," which will likely have a bright, dry, and delicate flavor and a high alcohol content (possibly around 11%).

The person behind Enlightenment Ales--Ben Howe--is also a bartender and waiter at the Cambridge Brewing Company in Kendall Square.

A couple of other nanobreweries are currently up and running in the Boston area, including Idle Hands Craft Ales and Night Shift Brewing, both of which are based in Everett.

The website for Enlightenment Ales is at http://www.enlightenmentales.com/
