Borrachito Opens in Boston's Seaport District

Last summer, it was reported that a taqueria in New York City would be expanding to the Boston waterfront, and we have now learned that it has opened.

According to a press release along with its website and social media, Borrachito debuts today at The Superette, a retail, dining, and entertainment center in the city's Seaport District, and as mentioned earlier, a hidden back room includes a bar/lounge area that was originally to be called The Garret Bar, though it no longer appears to have a separate name after all. The Garret Group, which runs both the original location in Manhattan's East Village and the new location in Boston, also operates The Garret cocktail bar and Bandits diner and dive, both of which are in Manhattan.

The address for Borrachito in the Seaport District is 70 Pier 4 Boulevard, Suite 270, Boston, MA, 02210. Its web page is at https://www.borrachito.com/boston while its Instagram page is at https://www.instagram.com/borrachitotaqueria/

Borrachito and The Garret Bar to Open at The Superette in Boston's Seaport District

Last winter, it was reported that a restaurant group based in Manhattan would be expanding to the Boston waterfront, and now we have learned that they will be opening another location of a combination taqueria/cocktail bar there.

According to a licensing board hearing page within the city's website, Den Hospitality plans to open Borrachito and The Garret Bar at The Superette, a retail, dining, and entertainment center in the Seaport District that is currently under development. The bostonseaport.xyz site mentions that The Garret Bar will be hidden behind Borrachito, with its entrance being through a walk-in freezer door and that it will feature a full bar, while Borrachito will likely offer tacos and possibly burritos, based on its East Village location (which it shares with a location of The Garret Bar). Den Hospitality also operates another location of The Garret Bar in the West Village along with Bandits which is also in the West Village, and The Garret Cocteleria in NoLita.

The hearing notice indicates that Borrachito and The Garret Bar hope to get their liquor license from B.K.'s Pub, a dive bar in Roslindale; it is not yet known what that means for the future of that watering hole--as soon as we find out more, we will post an update here.

The website for Den Hospitality can be found at http://www.denhospitality.com/

[March 24, 2023 update: According to a press release, Borrachito has its official opening on April 17.]

The Soup Shack Is Replacing Dorado Tacos in Brookline

A popular spot for tacos is shutting down, and a soup place will be opening a second location in its space.

The Brookline TAB/Wicked Local is reporting that Dorado Tacos in Brookline is closing, as the owner has sold the Harvard Street business to the people behind The Soup Shack in Jamaica Plain, with the deal possibly being finalized within the next week. The article says that a Select Board hearing was slated to take place today concerning the transferring of the liquor license, so if the transfer was indeed approved, Dorado could be closing very soon.

Dorado Tacos first opened in Brookline in 2009, offering tacos as well as quesadillas, cemitas (Mexican sandwiches), guacamole, bowls, and more. The Soup Shack opened approximately a year ago on Centre Street in Jamaica Plain, with that dining spot offering such items as Thai noodle soup, ramen, and pho.

The address for Dorado Tacos (and the new Soup Shack) is 401 Harvard Street, Brookline, MA, 02446.

[June 19 update: Boston Magazine states that Dorado Tacos is now closed, having shuttered last Friday.]

[October 4 update: According to a source (Geoff Wong), The Soup Shack has a sign out front that says it plans to open in the former Dorado Tacos space this fall.]

by Marc Hurwitz

The person behind an award-winning deli along with an adjacent restaurant and wine bar has opened a new taqueria and BBQ spot.

Boston Magazine is reporting (via an update) that El Rincon de Moody's is now open in Waltham, with Joshua Smith being behind the Moody Street eatery. As mentioned earlier, the new counter-service place offers tacos, sandwiches and meals using meats cooked in the wood-fired rotisserie at The Backroom next door, beer, wine, sangria, and more, with seating available for approximately 30 people. El Rincon de Moody's plans to be open for lunch and dinner daily while also offering catering.

Joshua Smith runs Moody's Delicatessen & Provisions and The Backroom, both of which are in a separate space next door to El Rincon de Moody's; Smith is also behind New England Charcuterie, a meat-processing plant near the Waltham/Belmont line. (A second location of Moody's Deli can be found in Boston's Back Bay.)

The address for this new dining spot in Waltham is: El Rincon de Moody's, 456 Moody Street, Waltham, MA, 02453. Its website is at https://www.elrincondemoodys.com/

[May 26 update: A new update from Boston Magazine mentions that El Rincon de Moody's is now officially open, with hours being 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM daily.]
