Chefs for the Cure Returns to the Boston Area, April 7, 2011

A culinary event that helps in the fight against breast cancer is coming back to the Boston area this spring, and some of the region's best chefs will be involved.

Based on information from the kintera.org site, the Massachusetts Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure is once again bringing the Third Annual Chefs for the Cure to the area. The event will be held at the Viking Center Showroom in Westwood on Thursday, April 7, with the VIP hour starting at 6:30 PM, doors officially opening at 7:00, and tastings at 7:30. In addition to tastings of dishes from participating chefs, the event will also have a raffle, and people with VIP tickets will also be able to view a cooking demo. Chefs from BOKX 109 American Prime, Myers + Chang, One Bistro, 62 Restaurant & Wine Bar, Taranta, Union Bar and Grille, and others will be at the event. Tickets to the 2011 Chefs for the Cure cost $100 for general admission ($150 for VIP).

The Viking Center Showroom is located at 400 Blue Hill Drive (just off Route 128) in Westwood.

Garden of Eat-In Pizzeria Opens in Cambridge

An new eatery has opened in North Cambridge, moving into the space where another dining spot had been until shutting down recently.

According to a poster on the Chowhound site, The Garden of Eat-In Pizzeria is now open on Mass. Ave. (near Cedar Street and Cameron Avenue). The new restaurant has taken over the spot where Good Food Cafe resided from 2007 until this past fall, when the sandwich and smoothie place closed its doors for good. The Chowhound poster states that The Garden of Eat-In Pizzera offers Italian food, pizzas, and sandwiches, while the Superpages site mentions that the place is open for lunch and dinner, with hours being 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM Monday through Saturday, and 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Sundays.

Sagra in Somerville Closes; Five Horses Tavern Opening in Its Space

An Italian restaurant with two locations in the Boston area is closing one of its dining spots, and another restaurant and bar will be moving into its space.

According to The Somerville Journal and Wicked Local, Sagra Ristorante in Somerville's Davis Square is closing its doors after being in business for about four years. The article states that a new place called Five Horses Tavern will take over the Highland Avenue space and will feature burgers, wings and beer.

[August 28 update: According to the restaurant's Facebook page, Five Horses Tavern is opening on Thursday, September 1.]

Sagra, which featured pizza, calzones, sandwiches, and pasta dishes, opened a second location on Washington Street in Dedham last spring. [July 11 update: The Sagra in Dedham is now closed as well.]

Moksa Is Opening in Cambridge's Central Square

The folks behind a restaurant and lounge in Cambridge's Harvard Square are opening a new dining spot in nearby Central Square, and it may be serving up Asian street food.

According to several sources, including Adam's Hospitality and Tourism Industry Blog, The Tech, and centralsquare.com, Moksa is planning to open on Mass. Ave. near the Brookline Street intersection. The folks who run OM Restaurant and Lounge on Winthrop Street in Harvard Square are behind the opening of Moksa, and it is possible that Patricia Yeo (of the now-closed Ginger Park in Boston's South End) may be involved with the new eatery as well, as the Boston Herald mentions that she is now at OM and is working with the owners to open a place in Central Square (the Herald says that the Central Square spot has no name at the present time).

The Tech article indicates that Moksa will feature street-style Asian fare.

[February 15, 2012 update: It looks like the opening of Moksa has been delayed once again, as Grub Street Boston states that the restaurant is now looking to open in early March.]

[February 29, 2012 update: The opening of Moksa appears to have been pushed back yet again, as Grub Street Boston reports that the planned opening date is now March 20.]

[March 2, 2012 update: An email from UrbanDaddy states that Moksa is planning to have a soft opening on Friday, March 9.]

[March 8, 2012 update: Grub Street Boston reports that Moksa will officially open to the public on Monday (March 12).]

Sabzi Opening in Arlington, Taking Over Former Prose Spot

A new restaurant is coming to Arlington, moving into the space where another eatery had been, and it looks like it may be featuring Persian cuisine.

According to the Arlington Patch, Sabzi is planning to open on Mass. Ave. (just east of Arlington Center) in the former Prose spot. It looks like the new restaurant may focus on Iranian fare, as "sabzi" is a Persian reference to herbs or greens. The Patch mentions that Sabzi will apparently be serving alcohol, as it received a beer and wine license earlier this week.

Prose, the restaurant that had been in the space that Sabzi is moving into, was an eclectic eatery that had been in business for about 15 years until closing this past New Year's Eve.

Taste Quincy Restaurant Week to Be Held March 6 to March 11, 2011

A "restaurant week" returns to Boston's southern neighbor this month, and once again, a number of dining spots within the city will be participating.

According to Wicked Local Quincy, the 2011 Taste Quincy Restaurant Week will be held from Sunday, March 6 to Friday, March 11. The article mentions that more than 25 eateries will be taking part in the event, including the Adams Pub, Beni Cafe, Common Market, The Fours, The Half Door, La Paloma, Siros, and Villa Rosa.

The Taste Quincy website states that the prices will be the same as last year, with lunch for two being either $10 or $15, and dinner for two being either $20 or $30 (depending on the restaurant). Other special will also be offered during the event, including specials at bakeries and cafes.
