Rodeo Mexican Grille Opening in Winchester

A Mexican restaurant is getting ready to open in Winchester, and one of the people behind it is the owner of another dining spot in East Boston.

According to the Winchester Patch, Rodeo Mexican Grille plans to open on Swanton Street this week, taking over the space where Pastazza used to be. The article mentions that the owner of Mi Rancho on Meridian Street in East Boston, as well as his brother, will be running the place, which will feature such items as guacamole, tilapia, steak, and shrimp. Beer and wine will be offered, with a full bar possibly being on the way at some point.

Results of Twitter Pulled Pork Poll

Our latest Twitter poll is now complete, with this poll looking at the best pulled pork in the Boston area. Salvatore's Restaurant to Open in Andover

A local chain of Italian restaurants and pizza places continues to expand, with a new location of its upscale Italian eatery coming to a town north of Boston.

According to the Eagle-Tribune, Salvatore's is looking to open in Andover, moving into the space on Park Street where a hair salon and half of a children's clothing store (Rugged Bear) used to be. The restaurant, which will be about 4,500 square feet in size, will join a few other Salvatore's in the area, including ones in Lawrence, the Seaport District of Boston, Medford, and soon, downtown Boston. Based on the menus at the other locations, expect the new spot in Andover to feature a variety of pastas, seafood dishes, chicken and veal entrees, pizza, and more.

Expect a possible December opening for the new Salvatore's in Andover.

Poe's Tip Tap Room Is Opening in Boston's Beacon Hill

The owner of three Back Bay restaurants is looking to open a new dining spot in Boston's Beacon Hill neighborhood, and the person who will be in charge of the place is a well-known chef in the area.

According to The Boston Globe, Poe's Tip Tap Room is going to be opening on Cambridge Street where Shangri-La restaurant used to be, bringing to the neighborhood a place to get inventive pub-style food. The person behind the proposed eatery also owns the two Parish Cafe restaurants on Mass. Ave. and Boylston Street as well as the Rattlesnake Bar and Grill on Boylston Street. The article mentions that Brian Poe of Poe's Kitchen at the Rattlesnake will be heading up Poe's Tip Tap Room, featuring such items as game tips (elk, yak, alligator, etc.), Maine shrimp and lobster tips in lemon butter, and more. High-end beers and wines will also be offered at the new restaurant, which will have a capacity of 200.

The Beacon Hill Civic Association's Zoning and Licensing Committee still needs to approve Poe's Tip Tap Room (a meeting is scheduled for tomorrow), and a meeting with the Boston Licensing Board will need to happen as well (possibly sometime this month) before the restaurant can open.

[April 12, 2012 update: Poe's Tip Tap Room is one step closer to opening, as the EveryBlock Boston site is showing that the restaurant received a business license over the past few days.]

[May 23, 2012 update: An email from Regan Communications indicates that Poe's Tip Tap Room is planning to open in mid-June. In addition to the foods mentioned above, the new Poe's will feature starters such as cheese and cracklins, grilled asparagus tips, and a grilled baby bok choy salad, with desserts including a peach tip cobbler and a blackberry and white chocolate bread pudding with whiskey caramel.]

Ben and Jerry's to Give Bostonians Free Ice Cream from Their Scoop Truck

A Vermont company is going to be giving away free ice cream in Boston throughout the month of August.

An email from Cone indicates that Ben & Jerry's Scoop Truck will be driving around the city this month, handing out frozen treats to folks. The ice cream company, which is based in South Burlington (and has a factory in nearby Waterbury) is planning to have their truck tour Boston until August 28, visiting non-profit companies and going to community events while in the area. The truck will be using Twitter to help "guide" it to areas where ice cream lovers want it to be.

Flavors that will be available on the Scoop Truck include both new and old ones, with such options as Late Night Snack (inspired by Late Night with Jimmy Fallon) and Stephen Colbert's AmeriCone Dream (vanilla ice cream with fudge covered waffle cone pieces and a caramel swirl).

Tootsie's Coffee Corner Opens in Wakefield

A new cafe and coffee shop has opened in Wakefield, and it features a "create your own" cupcake bar.

According to one of our spotters within the Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook page, Tootsie's Coffee Corner is now open on Main Street in the Greenwood section of this northern suburb of Boston. The eatery offers more than 30 types of coffee (both hot and iced), with breakfast sandwiches, muffins, scones, and danish being offered for breakfast, and house-made cupcakes starting around lunchtime each day. In addition to daily cupcake specials, Tootsie's allows patrons to customize their own cupcakes using nine mix-in options. The cafe also sells Italian gelato and Richie's slush.

Hours for Tootsie's Coffee Corner are 6:30 AM to 9:00 PM Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM on Saturdays, and 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Sundays.
