Neuhaus Chocolate Shop Opens at Boston's Faneuil Hall Marketplace

A Belgian chocolatier that first started out more than 150 years ago has opened a shop in the heart of downtown Boston.

Eater Boston is reporting that Neuhaus now has a chocolate shop at 1 South Market Street in the Faneuil Hall Marketplace, joining three others in New York City, one in Paramus, NJ, and another in Washington, DC. The article mentions that the company first started out in Brussels in 1857 as an apothecary and is considered the inventor of the praline along with the ballotin (a decorative cardboard box used to package chocolates).

Hours for Neuhaus in Faneuil Hall are 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM Monday through Saturday and 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM on Sundays, according to EB.

Update: Emmet's in Boston's Beacon Hill Expands to Norwood

[Ed note: This article was updated on December 1 to reflect confirmation of a second location opening.]

A local restaurant group is going to be opening a second location of one of its places, and it looks like it is coming to a suburb of Boston.

According to a job post on the bostonchefs.com site, the East Coast Tavern Group is currently looking for an Executive Chef for a new spot that will be opening in Norwood. A check on the restaurant group's website shows a second logo for Emmet's Irish Pub and Restaurant in Boston's Beacon Hill, with a "Coming Soon" logo next to it; no other new upcoming place is shown on the site, so it looks like the new location of Emmet's is indeed coming to Norwood, though this has not been confirmed as of yet.

[December 1 update: Eater Boston has confirmed (via a Facebook post) that Emmet's has indeed opened a second location in Norwood.]

East Coast Tavern Group also operates 6B Lounge and Carrie Nation, both of which are located on Beacon Hill, and Scholars, which is in Downtown Crossing. The website for the group can be found at http://www.ectgboston.com/

Kava Neo-Taverna Is Opening in Boston's South End

Over the past few weeks, there has been chatter that a Greek restaurant may be opening in the South End of Boston. Now it appears there is further proof that this is indeed happening.

A blog post from BosGuy mentions that a "moderately priced Greek restaurant" is coming to the space on Shawmut Avenue where Yakitori Zai had been, and before that, Joe V's and On the Park. No name has been given for the upcoming dining spot as of yet, nor is there an opening date--though BosGuy says that it could be ready to open sometime in early 2016.

Currently, no other Greek restaurants can be found in the South End, though Doretta Taverna is relatively close by in the Park Plaza area. [Ed note: A popup Greek spot called Pelekasis can now be found within the Wink & Nod space on Appleton Street as well.]

[November 4 update: Eater Boston mentions that the restaurant coming to the former Yakitori Zai space will be called Kava Neo-Taverna.]

[March 10, 2016 update: A new article from Boston Magazine mentions that Kava hopes to open in the early spring, and that it plans to have a "chic Greece" vibe with a seasonal menu that includes small plates and Mediterranean seafood dishes, along with Greek wines and liquors not commonly found in the local area.]

[May 11, 2016 update: Eater Boston says (via BosGuy) that Kava Neo-Taverna is now open.]

Bagelville in Arlington Heights Is Closing

It looks like the status of a bagel shop in the northwest suburbs of Boston is in doubt, based on information from a recent legal notice.

According to a picture posted by a member of The Arlington List's Facebook page, Bagelville on Mass. Ave, in Arlington Heights may be replaced by a medical office, with the public hearing notice saying that an application to change the sign from Bagelville to Doctors Express will be looked at on November 16. No specific information has been given, and the bagel shop was still open for business as of this past weekend.

[January 8, 2016 update: A new post on The Arlington List's Facebook page indicates that Bagelville is no longer in operation, with the website for the shop seeming to confirm this (the Arlington location has been taken off the page).]

Bagelville first opened in Arlington Heights in April of last year, offering such items as bagels, soups, salads, and sandwiches. Two other locations of the shop can be found in Boston's Faneuil Hall and on the West Roxbury/Dedham line.

Sign and Awning Down at Mary Ann's in Brighton's Cleveland Circle; Appears to Be for Renovations

Questions about the status of an infamous dive bar and college hangout have come up over the past 24 hours, but it appears that the place may simply be undergoing renovations.

According to a source, the sign and awning at Mary Ann's in the Cleveland Circle section of Brighton are down, with a Twitter post confirming this and showing workers at the site. And while there has been chatter as to whether the Beacon Street watering hole is closed for good or simply getting a facelift, another source tells us that it appears to be the latter--that the bar is simply getting a new sign. This has not been confirmed 100% as of yet, but it does seem that the bar remains open for business. (Phone calls to the place have gone unanswered, with no voicemail clicking in.)

Mary Ann's has received several suspensions over the past couple of years for underage drinking, with the city of Boston looking into the possibility awhile back of reducing the bar's hours because of past troubles there.
