Papagayo in Boston's Fort Point Has Closed

A popular Mexican restaurant near the Boston waterfront has shut down.

According to an article in Eater Boston, Papagayo on Summer Street in the Fort Point section of the city is no longer in operation, with owner Chris Damian telling Eater that "We had a great run at that location but with the changing market conditions, popularity of Mexican brands on that end of town, currently seven and going on eight, we felt it was best to end our run there" and that "We wrestled with reconcepting the location but felt at this point with the explosion of restaurants in Seaport, South Boston, Prudential, the Lifestyle centers outside of town, as well as the difficulty in manpower planning, it would be smarter to move on from the location." Other locations of Papagayo in Downtown Crossing and Somerville's Assembly Row remain open. (A Saugus location of the restaurant closed down approximately a year ago.)

Papagayo first opened in Fort Point in the fall of 2010.

Dave and Buster's Is Opening at the Natick Mall

A chain of restaurants and entertainment spots is planning to open a third location in the Greater Boston area, taking over part of the space occupied by a department store.

According to an article in Wicked Local, Dave & Buster's is looking to open in the Natick Mall, with the plan being to take over part of the space that is currently occupied by Sears. The post says that Sears is consolidating the store there, vacating the second floor area and occupying the ground floor only, and that Dave & Buster's and another unnamed tenant are expected to open in the upstairs space. The proposed eatery and entertainment place has more steps to take before opening (including a meeting with the town planning board), but if all goes well and it does open at the Natick Mall, the new Dave & Buster's would join others in Braintree and Woburn.

Dave & Buster's, which is based on Dallas, features mainly traditional American fare and comfort food, while featuring TVs for sports viewing, video game arcades, and more. The website for the chain can be found at http://www.daveandbusters.com/

Black & Blue Steak and Crab Is Opening in Burlington

It looks like another Rochester-based business is expanding to Boston, with this one being a high-end fine dining concept with three locations in Upstate New York.

According to a job post within the bostonchefs.com site, Black & Blue Steak and Crab is planning to open in Burlington, moving into a space in The District, a development next to the Burlington Mall that is also home to Island Creek Oyster Bar, Tuscan Kitchen, Pressed Cafe, Tavern in the Square, and Rebecca's Cafe. Based on the offerings at the other locations in Rochester, Amherst (a suburb of Buffalo), and Albany, the new location of the eatery could have such options as tuna tartare, pork belly, crab and lobster fondue, wagyu meatballs, Kansas City bone-in strip, king crab legs, lobster tail, rack of lamb, and a steak sandwich.

Black & Blue Steak and Crab is the flagship restaurant of the Two For Seven Restaurant Group, which is headquartered in the Rochester suburb of Pittsford; this is one of at least three companies to expand from Rochester to Boston of late, including Wegmans Food Markets and Abbott's Frozen Custard.

Eddie V's Is Opening in the Former Macaroni Grill Space in Burlington

This past fall, we reported that a group of high-end steak and seafood restaurants was looking to expand to the Back Bay, and now we have learned that they might be coming to a red-hot suburb of Boston as well.

According to a source, Eddie V's is planning to open in the old Romano's Macaroni Grill space in Burlington, with an article from the Daily Times Chronicle confirming this, saying that the plans are to demolish the South Avenue building and replace it with a new structure that would be home to the new dining spot. (Macaroni Grill shut down last February and now has only one remaining location in New England.) More specific plans for the site will be given over the coming months, so it could be awhile before the new location of Eddie V's opens.

Eddie V's is a small chain of dining spots based in Austin, TX, that is also looking to open at the Prudential Center in Boston, taking over the space where P.F. Chang's had been. [Ed note: Now open.] The group of eateries offers such items as jumbo shrimp, swordfish steak, lobster tails, ribeye, filet mignon, and more.

[March 16 update: The Daily Times Chronicle states that the upcoming Eddie V's in Burlington would have seating for 302 and a bit under 10,000 square feet of space, with the old Macaroni Grill building being torn down and the restaurant being housed in a new structure that is a bit closer to the Middlesex Turnpike.]

The Bacon Truck to Open a Brick-and-Mortar Restaurant in Charlestown

The people behind a food truck that features a beloved food item will be opening a brick-and-mortar spot in an historic section of Boston.

Boston Magazine is reporting (via a Facebook post) that The Bacon Truck will soon be joined by a restaurant in Charlestown, with the people behind the business saying that the new eatery could be opening sometime in February. Little other information has been given on the place--though it appears that it could be called The Bacon Truck Cafe based on a hashtag--so stay tuned for more updates, including an exact address.

Sam Williams and J.J. Frosk debuted The Bacon Truck in the fall of 2013, offering a variety of bacon-based items such as candied bacon, bacon scallion hash, and several sandwiches containing bacon. The website for The Bacon Truck can be found at http://www.bostonbacontruck.com/

[January 3 update: An update added to the Boston Magazine article mentions that The Bacon Truck's brick-and-mortar restaurant will be located in the former Prescott space at 50 Terminal Street, which is by the start of a small peninsula formed by Little Mystic Channel and the Mystic River at the northern edge of Charlestown. The update also says that the new spot will be a commissary kitchen and cafe offering breakfast and lunch.]

Sultan's Kitchen in Downtown Boston Has Closed

A downtown Boston mainstay that has been serving up lunch for more than 35 years has closed its doors.

According to a Twitter post from writer, photographer, and former Boston Globe food editor Sheryl Julian, Sultan's Kitchen on State Street is no longer in business, with Julian noting that "Turkish-born owner Ozcan Ozan made wonderful food, which he chronicled in 'Sultan's Kitchen: A Turkish Cookbook.'" No reason was given for its closure and calls to the place have gone unanswered (and do not go to voicemail); as soon as we find out more, we will post an update here.

Sultan's Kitchen first opened in 1981, offering such items as lentil soup, kebabs, humus, tabbouleh, baba ganoush, stuffed grape leaves, musakka, rice pilaf, and more.
