It looks like a new restaurant and bar is on its way to a space just north of Boston where a location of a local group of dining spots had been--and a familiar name is apparently behind it.
According to a poster on the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, Longcross Bar and Kitchen is planning to open in Medford, with the address mentioned in the thread indicating that it will move into the former Not Your Average Joe's Space at Station Landing. A hearing notice post within mypublicnotices.com seems to confirm this address, while also stating that the manager of the dining and drinking spot appears to be Gregory Coughlin; an OpenCorporates page for Wellington Circle Restaurant, Inc.--which is the parent company of Longcross Bar and Kitchen, according to the hearing notice--gives the address for Olde Magoun's Saloon in Somerville, so it does looks like this is the same Gregory Coughlin who is behind that spot as well as Blackmoor in Charlestown and Copper House Tavern in Waltham.
The Medford location of Not Your Average Joe's closed in June of 2016 after being in business for approximately 10 years.

[January 6, 2020 update: According to a couple of sources within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, Longcross Bar and Kitchen is now open in Medford, and it offers a mix of comfort food and New American fare along with beer, wine, and cocktails--and its menu also shows that it serves Detroit-style pizza, which makes it the third independent spot in the region to offer it on a regular basis (the other two being Avenue Kitchen + Bar in Somerville and Volo in Swampscott).]

Redd's in Rozzie Could Be Returning

A beloved neighborhood restaurant that closed last year could be returning, though no specific plans are in place as of yet.
Universal Hub reports (via a blog post) that Charlie Redd is hoping to reopen Redd's in Rozzie at some point, saying that "The people of Rozzie have let me know we are missed more than I ever expected. Antonio and I miss the cooking. The body is dead, but the soul is still very much alive....It will be resurrected, but not now." The post indicates that Redd's will apparently not return this year, and it is not known where the restaurant might reopen--and it definitely won't be coming back to its old space on Washington Street because a new location of Chilacates will be opening there. Once more concrete plans are in place for Redd's in Rozzie, we will post an update here.
Redd's in Rozzie closed down in July of 2018 after being in business for seven years; after its closure, Charlie Redd turned his focus to a new eatery called Dragon Pizza, which opened in the old Christo's Pizzeria space in Somerville's Davis Square in September.
The old location of Redd's in Rozzie was at 4257 Washington Street in Roslindale Village.

Kaki Lima Is Heading to New York City

A beloved pop-up restaurant that features Indonesian food is saying farewell to Boston.
According to an article in Boston Magazine, Kaki Lima is moving to New York City this summer, as co-owner Peter Gelling is returning to his career in journalism and has taken a job there. Gelling and chef Retno Pratiwi--who hails from Jakarta--started the business approximately five years ago, with the couple offering street food items at various pop-ups along with such longer-term gigs as KO Pies at the Shipyard in East Boston and Wink and Nod in the South End. Gelling and Pratiwi do promise to pop up again in Boston at some point and also plan to have one more dinner series in the city before heading to New York in June.

Turtle Swamp Brewing Hopes to Have Permanent Beer Hall in Roslindale Substation

Late last fall, a local brewery opened a seasonal beer garden in an historic structure that had been home to another beer garden the year before. Now there is a plan to make the current beer hall a permanent one.
According to an article from Universal Hub, Turtle Swamp Brewing is seeking a zoning change in order to make its beer garden in the Roslindale Substation permanent, with a community meeting taking place on the issue on May 8. The post mentions that the brewery would need a variance for a brewery-related use, as the space is currently zoned for restaurant use; a restaurant called Third Rail was hoping to open there at one point but those plans never came to be.
Last winter, Trillium had a beer garden in the substation while also having an outdoor beer garden on the Rose Kennedy Greenway in downtown Boston during the warmer months (including this coming season).
[July 9 update: Universal Hub states that the Zoning Board of Appeal has approved of Turtle Swamp's plans to open a permanent beer garden in the substation. If all goes well, the place could debut as a permanent spot on September 14.]

Gray's Hall Is Opening Next Door to American Provisions in South Boston

It looks like an artisanal "farm-to-table" grocery store in South Boston could soon be joined by an adjacent restaurant that focuses on locally-sourced food.
Universal Hub is reporting that The Zoning Board of Appeal has given its approval for the people behind American Provisions to open a sit-down bistro next to the East Broadway market, with an earlier post from Caught in Southie saying that it will include seating for 28 along with a kitchen. Both articles say that owners Andy Faddous and Matthew Thayer hope to acquire a beer and wine license, while their attorney says that "It's something decidedly different for South Boston....It will be a non-noisy, quiet restaurant for people like us."
A second location of American Provisions opened earlier this year in Dorchester, moving into the Treadmark building in the Ashmont/Peabody Square area. (The website for both stores can be found at https://www.americanprovisions.com/)

Karen Akunowicz Is Opening SloPoke within Whole Foods Market in Charles River Plaza

Earlier this year, a James Beard Award Winner opened a new restaurant in South Boston that focuses mainly on Italian food. Now she is planning to open another spot, with this one being inside a grocery store near the downtown area of the city.
According to an article from Eater Boston, Karen Akunowicz is planning to open SloPoke within the Whole Foods Market in the Charles River Plaza near where the West End borders Beacon Hill. The new eatery from Akunowicz, who opened Fox and the Knife in Southie in February, will feature poke bowls that include pre-set, customizable, and pre-made grab-and-go, with tuna, salmon, and shrimp being seafood options while sweet potatoes and tofu will be a couple of non-seafood options.
Eater says that SloPoke plans to open on May 10.
The West End location of Whole Foods is at 181 Cambridge Street in Boston, while the Instagram page for SloPoke can be found at https://www.instagram.com/slopoke_bos/
