An Italian cafe just west of Boston that had formerly been a popup spot--and which is run by a James Beard Award winner--is morphing into a full-service restaurant.
According to an article from Boston Magazine, Ronsky's at The Street in Chestnut Hill is going to transform into Chef Ronsky's Trattoria, an Italian dining spot that will have a rotating menu that features such items as antipasti, house-made pastas and desserts, and Italian wines and beers. The person behind both the current cafe and the upcoming restaurant is Ron Suhanosky, who had been one of the founders of Sfoglia, a high-end Italian restaurant on Nantucket (now closed) and in New York's Upper West Side, and who also received a James Beard Award in 2010 for his cookbook Pasta Sfoglia.
Ronsky's was initially one of a number of rotating popups at The Street in Chestnut Hill, but in 2017, it became a permanent eatery there.
If all goes as planned, Chef Ronsky's Trattoria could be opening in early June. (Its website will be at https://www.chefronskys.com/)

Thai Noodle Cafe Opens in Former Tony G's Barbecue Space in Belmont
A new Thai restaurant has come to the western suburbs of Boston, and it takes over the space where a BBQ spot had been.
Eater Boston is reporting that Thai Noodle Cafe is now open in Belmont, with the address indicating that it resides in the former Tony G's Barbecue space on Belmont Street. The post says that the new eatery offers a variety of Thai dishes for dine-in or takeout/delivery, including stir-fry noodle plates, fried rice, noodle soups, curry items, and more.
Tony G's first opened in the summer of 2015, taking over the space where Gustazo Cuban Restaurant & Cafe had been before it moved to Waltham (Gustazo now has a second location in Cambridge as well).

A new dining spot that apparently focuses on Caribbean food is opening a few miles north of Boston.
According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, Island Spice Cafe is opening in Medford, with a picture posted indicating that the High Street eatery may actually be getting ready to have its grand opening. The photo shows a sign that says "healthy fresh food made daily" along with coffee, fresh-squeezed juices, and coconut water, though no specific food items are mentioned and there appears to be no online presence for the restaurant at this point in time. (A city council meeting page within the City of Medford site does mention Island Spice Cafe, indicating that the name of the person behind the place is Charline Francis.)

Sweet Bakery in Chestnut Hill and Downtown Boston Are Closed; Exact Status of Latter Unknown
A group of bakeries and pastry shops that closed one of its locations earlier this year has closed its other two locations, and it remains a mystery as to whether one of the two might open back up again.
According to several sources, Sweet Bakery in Chestnut Hill and downtown Boston are both closed, with one source on the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook page indicating that Chill Sugar Co. is replacing the Chestnut Hill location while a few sources say that a "space available" sign is apparently posted out front at the Boston location. Earlier reports from sources indicated that the Boston shop was only closed for renovations and a Yelp page mentions that it is "temporarily closed" and is scheduled to reopen on May 31. The website for all locations gives no indication that the Chestnut Hill or Boston outlets have closed, and it also shows that the shop in Cambridge's Harvard Square that shuttered earlier this year is considered to be "closed for renovation." We have reached out to Sweet Bakery to find out more information on all of this, so keep checking back for updates.(The online business for Sweet Bakery remains in operation, as does its catering.)

Stazzione Di Federale to Open in the Biagio Space in Waltham
A new Italian restaurant may be on its way to the western suburbs, and it looks like it will have a connection to a nearby steakhouse--and it also looks like it will replace an existing Italian spot.
According to a source, Stazzione Di Federale is planning to open in Waltham, with the address given indicating that it will be moving into the space on Moody Street where Biagio Ristorante & Bar currently resides. Photos sent of a couple of legal notices posted in the Waltham News Tribune confirm this news, saying that Stazzione Di Federale would be a three-story restaurant that includes a roof deck, and that the manager listed is David Alphonse, who is one of the people behind The Federal at the 1265 Main development in Waltham.
The hearing is scheduled for May 28, so more information on Stazzione Di Federale may be known by the end of the month.

Ghost Pepper Taqueria to Open in Dorchester's Savin Hill Neighborhood
It looks like a Mexican restaurant is on its way to a space just above the Southeast Expressway.
According to a licensing board hearing page within the City of Boston website, Ghost Pepper Taqueria is planning to open in Dorchester, moving into a space within a condo complex on Savin Hill Avenue that is also home to Savin Bar & Kitchen. An earlier article mentioned that a new restaurant from the people behind Savin Bar & Kitchen would be going into a formerly empty space facing the Expressway that locals called the "Savin Hill Hole," and it appears that this is indeed the dining spot that will be moving in there.
The notice also says that Savin Bar & Kitchen is petitioning to change its name slightly, to Savin Hill Bar & Kitchen.
The address given for Ghost Pepper Taqueria and Savin Bar & Kitchen is 112-120 Savin Hill Avenue.
[May 24 update: Eater Boston states that Ghost Pepper Taqueria will have seating for 100 and a U-shaped bar within the space, with the plan being to open sometime over the summer. (Eater also says that the exact address is 116 Savin Hill Avenue.)]
