A bakery and cafe with locations in Harvard Square and Huron Village in Cambridge is apparently closing their Harvard Square spot, and opening a new location between Harvard Square and Porter Square.
Based on information given to us by Eat Boston, Hi-Rise Bread Company is planning on opening on Mass. Ave. by the Wendell Street intersection. A notice on the City of Cambridge website also indicates that Hi-Rise is looking at this space, as it mentions that an upcoming Board of Zoning meeting will take up the case of parking for the restaurant. The case notice also states that the new Hi-Rise would have a capacity of 59.
[August 19 update: According to The Feast (via the Tosci Twitter page), the Brattle Street location of Hi-Rise in Harvard Square is closing on Saturday, August 27, with the new, larger Mass. Ave. spot opening sometime in early September. The location on Concord Avenue in Huron Village will remain open. Thanks to Grub Street Boston for bringing this to our attention.]
[October 13 update: According to @barismo, the new Hi-Rise Bread Company on Mass. Ave. has soft-opened.]
Hi-Rise Bread Company features freshly made breads as well as soups, salads, sandwiches, dinner entrees, and pastries.

Acropolis Opens in Needham
A Greek restaurant has just opened in Needham, moving into the space where several other dining spots have been.
According to several sources, including posters on Chowhound, Acropolis is now open for business on Highland Avenue (a few blocks north of the heart of Needham Center), bringing to this western suburb of Boston a place to get such items as gyros, souvlaki, stuffed grape leaves, moussaka, and other classic Greek fare. Acropolis takes over the spot formerly occupied by such eateries as Gabriella's Bistro, Euro Taste, and Firebird's.
The address for this new Greek restaurant in Needham is: Acropolis, 1257 Highland Avenue, Needham, MA, 02492.

Tapas Corner in Beverly Has Closed
A North Shore restaurant that featured Spanish, Mediterranean, and Mexican fare has closed its doors.
A note sent to us by the creator of the restaurant's Facebook page has indicated that Tapas Corner in Beverly is no longer in business. The note implies that the Wallis Street eatery closed due to income not being able to keep up with expenses.
Tapas Corner featured a variety of items on its menu, including soups, salads, chili, tacos, burritos, and stir-fry bowls. The restaurant was open for lunch and dinner Monday through Saturday.
The address for this now-closed dining spot in Beverly was: Tapas Corner, 6 Wallis Street, Beverly, MA, 01915.

A Taste of Iceland Coming to Boston, March 18-22, 2011
An event that focuses on Iceland (including its food) is returning to Boston later this month.
According to the icelandnaturally.com site, the Second Annual "A Taste of Iceland" will be held from Friday, March 18 to Tuesday, March 22, with food, music, and films of the country being the focal points of the event. On the food side, award-winning chef (and co-owner of Reykjavik's Seafood Cellar Restaurant) Johannes Johannesson will be preparing Icelandic fare at Rialto in Cambridge's Harvard Square. "Chef Joi," as he is called, was twice named Chef of the Year by the World Association of Chef Societies, and he was also a gold medalist in the World Culinary Cup last year, according to the website. His Seafood Cellar Restaurant has been included in Conde Nast Traveler's "Hot Tables" list as well.
Rialto is located within the Charles Hotel at 1 Bennett Street in Cambridge.

A Taste of Spring to Be Held in Woburn, May 18, 2011
A tasting event to benefit an organization that helps people with developmental disabilities is returning to Woburn later this spring, and a number of area restaurants will be participating.
Based on information from an email sent to us by NuPath, Inc., The 14th Annual "A Taste of Spring" is going to be held on May 18 at the Holiday Inn Select at 15 Middlesex Canal Park (next to the Showcase Cinema) from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM. Some of the 25 food purveyors that are participating include Bobby C's, Fairways at the Woburn Country Club, Focaccia, L'Andana, Lester's Roadside Bar B-Que, Masa Southwest Bar and Grill, Nourish Restaurant, Sea Dog Brew Pub, Summer Winter, and Tryst.
In addition to tastings, A Taste of Spring will also have a silent auction, raffles, and door prizes. The donation price for tickets to A Taste of Spring is $25.
