b.good at Northeastern University in Boston Has Closed

Another location of a local group of dining spots has shut down.

According to an article from The Huntington News, b.good at Northeastern University in Boston is no longer in operation, as it closed permanently on October 18 after being in business since 2016. With the closing of this location, there are now only seven remaining in Massachusetts, as a number of outlets have closed over the past several years including in Boston's South End, Bedford, Burlington, Hingham, and Wellesley.

The Salty Seagull to Replace The Scotty Dog in Beverly

Earlier this year it was reported that a popular North Shore spot known for its Chicago-style hot dogs was closing down, and now we have learned that a new eatery is opening in its space, and it will also be serving Chicago dogs.

A Facebook post confirms what a source told us a couple of weeks ago, that The Salty Seagull is going to be opening in Beverly, taking over the former Scotty Dog space on Rantoul Street. The post gives some information on its plans, saying the following:

Joseph and Eric business partners in a few different small businesses including a restaurant in Hampton Beach are taking over the old Scotty dog which will now turn into The Salty Seagull. I'm doing some Consulting for them. Finishing up on the menu now which will include some Scotty Dog favorites, Vienna Beef Chicago dogs, Garlic burgers, Maxwell st polish, Italian Beef & Lobster rolls with Lobster meat from Ipswich shellfish which I have used in my past life as a Executive Chef. Dedicated team ready to continue great food and great service just like The Scotty Dog!!

In February, Stephen Scott announced that The Scotty Dog would not be reopening and that it had been sold.

Sofra Opens in Allston

Earlier this year, it was reported that a well-known local bakery was going to be expanding to a second space, and now we have learned that it is up and running.

According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, Sofra is now open in Allston, moving into a space by the intersection of North Harvard Street and Western Avenue. The new location of Sofra joins another in Cambridge (which first opened in 2008), and Ana Sortun and Maura Kilpatrick are behind the two places which focus on food items with Turkish, Lebanese, and Greek influences.

Conrad's to Open in Needham

A local group of restaurants known in part for their steak tips will soon be opening a new location.

According to a source, Conrad's is going to be opening in Needham, moving into the space on Highland Avenue that had been home to a locations of Bertucci's. We have been told that the new outlet hopes to open later this year, which seems to jibe with an earlier Needham Observer article that said the plan was to open sometime this fall. Once the Needham location of Conrad's opens, it will join others in Norwood, Walpole, and Foxboro (another had been in Sudbury as well, but it closed in 2022).

Sweeney's on Boylston to Replace Solas, The Irving to Replace City Bar in Boston's Back Bay

Last month, it was reported that three hotel restaurants/bars in Boston's Back Bay were going to be closing, and now we have learned that all three will be replaced by new spots, though for now, only two have names and opening dates.

According to an article from Time Out, Sweeney's on Boylston is planning to open in the space within the Lenox Hotel where Solas currently resides, while The Irving is looking to open in the space where City Bar currently resides. The article mentions that Sweeney's, like Solas, will be an Irish pub, while The Irving will carry on the bar/cocktail lounge theme of City Bar, and both plan to open on November 1, with Solas and City Bar remaining open until then.

Time Out also says that an as-of-yet unnamed restaurant will replace City Table early next year, and that City Table will remain open until renovations begin on the space early next year. (All three concepts are being headed up by hospitality veteran Daniel Kenney, whose most recent position was executive chef at the Liberty Hotel.)

L.A. Burdick to Open in Brookline's Coolidge Corner

A New Hampshire-based retailer of handmade chocolate products that also operates several chocolate shops and cafes is bringing a third location to the Boston area.

According to a source (Gary Goldblatt), L.A. Burdick is planning to open an outlet in Brookline, with a Google search indicating that it will apparently take over the former Allium Market space on Beacon Street in Coolidge Corner, and that it is slated to debut in December. Once it opens, the new location will join shops in Boston's Back Bay and Cambridge's Harvard Square, along with others in New York City, Chicago, Washington, DC, and Walpole, NH (where the business is headquartered).
