An eclectic suburban restaurant that focused on a cuisine that is difficult to find in the Boston area has shut down, and a new dining and drinking spot that was first mentioned earlier this year is taking over the space.
According to a source, Comedor in Newton Centre has closed its doors, with a Facebook post from the Union Street eatery saying that "all good things must come to an end. It was a difficult decision to make, but we have decided to close the restaurant and allow for a talented couple to come into the space and share their vision with you." The new restaurant that the Comedor folks are referring to is Thistle & Leek, a "refined" gastropub with Spanish and Italian influences; the people behind the upcoming spot are Kate and Trevor Smith, who have worked at a number of well-known restaurants over the years, including Coppa, Craigie Street Bistrot, and Toro in the Boston area and Gramercy Tavern and Le Bernardin in New York City.
Comedor first opened in the fall of 2014, offering a variety of Chilean dishes, including both small plates and full meals.

Comedor Is Opening in Newton Centre
A new restaurant is on its way to Newton, and the people behind it come from a well-known dining spot in another part of the city.
Eater Boston is reporting that Comedor is going to open on Union Street in Newton Centre, with the address indicating that it will move into the space where Big Sky Bakery used to be. The article says that Jakob White and Fernanda Tapia White, both of whom come from 51 Lincoln in Newton Highlands, are opening the place, with the focus being on "American-Chilean small plates." If all goes well (they recently launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for the final stages of opening), expect to see Comedor open sometime in the late summer or early fall.

Chacarero Closes Its Prudential Center Location in Boston's Back Bay
A pair of Chilean sandwich shops in Boston is now down to just one, as it has shuttered its newer location in the Back Bay.
Universal Hub is reporting that the outlet of Chacarero within the food court at The Shops at Prudential Center is now closed after being in business for less than a year. The post indicates that the eatery may have shut down on Friday, with the apparent reason for its closure being business that wasn't up to expectations. The existing location of Chacarero on Arch Street remains open.
Chacarero began as a pushcart in Downtown Crossing about 20 years ago, eventually moving to a takeout space in the former Filene's building nearby before opening shops on Province Street and Arch Street (the Province Street location is no longer in operation). The dining spot is known mostly for its sandwiches with grilled steak, chicken, and veggie options, though it also offers empanadas, sweet oven-fried potatoes, rice pudding, and breakfast items. Tara Restaurant in Waltham Reopens After Being Seized by the State
Last week we reported that a Waltham restaurant had been seized by the Department of Revenue, and now we have learned that the eatery is open once again.
The Waltham News Tribune is reporting that Tara Restaurant on Moody Street is now back in business, as the owner worked with the state to create a payment plan for back taxes owed. The article says that the place was able to reopen last Thursday, the day after it had been seized.
Tara Restaurant offers a mix of sandwiches, pizza, pasta dishes, grill items, and Chilean fare. It is located at 288 Moody Street in Waltham's "restaurant row." The website for the spot can be found at http://www.tararestaurant.net/

Tara Restaurant in Waltham Has Been Seized by the State
A restaurant in Waltham has been shut down by the state, and it is not known whether the place will reopen at this point.
A Twitter post from @BrandNewWatch indicates that Tara Restaurant on Moody Street has been seized for nonpayment of taxes, and it is now in the possession of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The Waltham Patch is looking for more information on its closing, so we may be able to give an update on the status of the dining spot relatively soon.
Tara Restaurant features pizza and sandwiches, as well as Chilean cuisine such as chacareros, lomitos, and empanadas. It also offers a variety of pasta dishes and grill items.

Chacarero Is Opening within the Prudential Center in Boston's Back Bay
Two years after closing one of its two downtown Boston locations, a Chilean sandwich shop is going to try to expand once again, with a new Back Bay location on the way.
The Boston Herald is reporting that Chacarero is soon planning to open within The Shops at Prudential Center, joining its other location on Arch Street. The Chilean eatery first started out as a pushcart in Downtown Crossing nearly 20 years ago, eventually moving nearby to a takeout space in the former Filene's building before opening sandwich shops on Province Street and Arch Street (the Province Street location closed in the winter of 2011).

Chacarero Is Closing Its Province Street Location; Arch Street Location to Remain Open
A popular Chilean restaurant that is known mostly for its sandwiches is going to be closing one of its two locations in downtown Boston, though the other location will remain open.
A note from a follower of ours on the Hiddenboston Twitter page has indicated that Chacarero on Province Street is getting ready to close its doors for good. A phone call placed to the eatery has confirmed that it will indeed be closing, with the closing date being Friday, February 18. The phone call also confirmed that their location on Arch Street will continue to be open for business.
Chacarero first opened along the side of the old Filene's building in the heart of Downtown Crossing, eventually moving to its current Province Street and Arch Street locations, both of which are near the original spot (and close to each other). The restaurant features sandwiches with grilled steak and/or chicken, along with a vegetarian sandwich, papusas, sweet oven-fried potatoes, soups, salads, orange cake, and rice pudding. Chacarero also serves breakfast, with omelets, pancakes, and muffins being on the breakfast menu.
