Cafe Landwer Is Opening in Boston's Back Bay/Copley Square Area

A chain of cafes based in Israel that has two locations in Boston will be opening a third, with this one coming to one of the busiest parts of the city.

According to a source, Cafe Landwer is planning to open in the Back Bay/Copley Square area, with our source telling us that it is taking over the space on Boylston Street that had been home to Ora Trattorizza. A message sent from the chain confirms that the new outlet will indeed be opening on Boylston Street, while our source says that the windows out front shows the Landwer name. It isn't yet known when the new location might be opening, so stay tuned for updates.

Cafe Landwer, which also has locations in the Fenway/Audubon Circle neighborhood and Brighton's Cleveland Circle area, is known for such items as shakshuka, hummus, roasted eggplant in tahini, schnitzel, chicken shawarma, and roasted Jerusalem artichokes.

It appears that the address for the new location of Cafe Landwer in the Back Bay/Copley Square area will be 653 Boylston Street, Boston, MA, 02116. The website for the chain can be found at https://www.landwercafe.com/

[January 24, 2022 update: According to a source (Sarah Wu), Cafe Landwer is now open on Boylston Street, with an Instagram post from the place saying that it is open for breakfast, brunch, lunch, and snacks between 8:00 AM and 3:00 PM.]

Ora Trattorizza in Boston's Back Bay/Copley Square Area Has Closed; New Concept Planned for Space

An Italian restaurant in one of the busiest parts of Boston has closed after being in business for about a year and a half.

According to a source, Ora Trattorizza in the Back Bay/Copley Square section of the city is no longer in business, with a message sent last night confirming that the Boylston Street spot has indeed shut down. We have been told that a new concept is on the way, though no details have been given as of yet, so stay tuned for updates. Ora Trattorizza first opened in July of 2018 next to the Charlesmark Hotel, with the two-story restaurant featuring Neapolitan pizza, a variety of Italian dishes, and beer, wine, and cocktails.

The address for Ora Trattorizza (and the upcoming new concept) is 651 Boylston Street, Boston, MA, 02116.

[August 20 update: It appears that plans for a new concept to come to the Ora Trattorizza space may have fallen through, as a listing within the Restaurants for Sale section of the Boston Restaurant Group website indicates that the space is now on the market and that the landlord is "open to negotiations."]

Boloco in Copley Square Has Closed; Chick-fil-A to Open in Space

Last fall, it was reported that a chain of chicken places was planning to open in Copley Place, and it looked like it would be replacing a location of a local group of burrito spots. Now we have learned that the burrito place has shut down.

Universal Hub is reporting (via Ron Newman) that Boloco on Boylston Street is now closed, making way for what will apparently be the first location of Chick-fil-A within the Boston city limits. The sign out front refers Boloco customers to two other locations on Boylston Street--one by Boston Common and another near Berklee College. (Five other outlets can be found in and around Boston as well.)

Chick-fil-A currently has a handful of locations in the Greater Boston area, including in Brockton, Burlington, Dedham, Framingham, Peabody, and Woburn.

The address for the now-closed Boloco in Copley Square (and upcoming Chick-fil-A) is 569 Boylston Street, Boston, MA, 02116.

A California-based group of restaurants that is opening its first Boston-area location will be opening another shop in one of the busiest sections of the city.

According to an article from Eater Boston, Tender Greens is planning to open at Copley Place in Boston's Back Bay neighborhood, with a page on the Copley Place website indicating that it will be located on the ground floor near Back Bay Station. Once it opens (it is scheduled to debut in August), the new eatery will join a location at The Street in Chestnut Hill, with that one looking to open next month. [Ed note--now open.] For both locations, expect such options as soups, salads, sandwiches, and meals with a small salad and a side of vegetables.

As mentioned earlier, one of the investors in the chain is Danny Meyer, whose New York-based Union Square Hospitality Group operates the Shake Shack restaurants.

The website for Tender Greens can be found at https://www.tendergreens.com/

[December 10 update: A press release mentions that Tender Greens opens at Copley Place on Wednesday, December 12.]

Moody's Delicatessen Is Opening in Rebecca's Cafe Space in the Back Bay of Boston

An award-winning deli is on its way to Boston's Back Bay, and it will be replacing a cafe near Copley Square.

According to a source, Moody's Delicatessen is opening on Boylston Street in the space where a location of Rebecca's Cafe currently resides. It appears that Rebecca's closes for good on September 8, clearing the way for construction on the space to commence, possibly in the next month or so. This will be the second location of Moody's Deli, with the original being on Moody Street in Waltham; owner Joshua Smith also runs New England Charcuterie, a meat-processing plant near the Waltham/Belmont line, and he will also be opening an oyster/ceviche bar and a taco and BBQ spot next to the Waltham location of Moody's.

An earlier Boston Magazine article had mentioned that Moody's was planning to come to the Back Bay, but no address had been given at the time.

Other locations of Rebecca's Cafe can be found in Boston, Cambridge, Burlington, Newton, and Waltham; the Back Bay outlet had been in business for nearly 20 years.

The address for the new Moody's Delicatessen is 500 Boylston Street, Boston, MA, 02116. The website for Moody's is at http://moodyswaltham.com/ while the website for Rebecca's is at http://www.rebeccascafe.com/

[September 8 update: A phone call placed to the business indicates that Rebecca's Cafe on Boylston Street in the Back Bay is now closed.]

[December 5 update: Boston Magazine states that Moody's is expected to open in the Back Bay on Monday, December 11.]

[December 8 update: A tweet from @bosfeed says that Moody's is having what appears to be a soft opening today in the Back Bay, with an Instagram post from the place confirming that it is indeed open.]

[December 11 update: A Facebook post from the place indicates that today is Grand Opening day for Moody's in the Back Bay.]

According to an article in Cambridge Day, Clover Food Lab is looking to open a brick-and-mortar location in Copley Square, with the post also mentioning that its planned Newbury Street location in the Back Bay is still in the works as well.
