Achilito's Taqueria Is Opening at Patriot Place in Foxborough

A few months ago it was reported that a Mexican restaurant in Jamaica Plain was planning to expand to another location in Boston. Now we have learned that it has plans to expand to a space southwest of the city that should eventually be a popular spot for sports fans.

According to the dining page for Patriot Place in Foxborough, Achilito's Taqueria is planning to open there sometime this fall, joining its original location across from the Forest Hills T station, and possibly another on Chestnut Hill Avenue in Brighton assuming that those plans are still in the works. Based on the original location in JP, the new outlet at Patriot Place could feature such items as tacos, burritos, quesadillas, flautas, enchiladas, tostadas, and more.

The website for Achilito's Taqueria can be found at https://www.achilitos.com/

[January 15, 2021 update: A page within the Patriot Place website indicates that the new location of Achilito's Taqueria is now open.]

CBS Scene at Patriot Place in Foxborough to Become CBS Sporting Club

by Marc Hurwitz

A sports bar that is a popular spot with football fans is shutting down for renovations, and when it reopens, a local hospitality group will be running it.

According to a post in the Patch, CBS Scene at Patriot Place in Foxborough will close on February 12, with The Sun Chronicle saying that it hopes to reopen this summer with Big Night Entertainment Group managing the place. (BNEG also operates Scorpion Bar at Patriot Place.) Though the extent of the changes have not been mentioned as of yet, it appears that this is more of an upgrade to the space, and it appears--for now--that the concept and name could remain the same.

CBS Scene, which first opened in 2008, is a three-floor restaurant and bar that is known in part for its nearly 150 high definition screens and views of Gillette Stadium.

The website for CBS scene can be found at http://www.cbsscene.com/

[May 17 update: CBS Boston states that the former CBS Scene at Patriot Place will reopen as CBS Sporting Club and that the "newly renovated gastro sports pub" will include a large bar, stadium-style seating, and an upgraded outdoor patio/bar. (Its website can be found at http://www.cbssportingclub.com/)]

[July 18 update: According to social media posts from the place, CBS Sporting Club is now open.]

Schlow Burger from Now-Closed Radius in Boston to Return to Tico Until February 8, 2015

A beloved burger that disappeared with the closing of a popular restaurant a couple of years ago is back for a few days, thanks in part to the New England Patriots.

According to a post from BostInno, Michael Schlow has brought back the Schlow Burger, which was a favorite at Radius in Boston's Financial District until the Broad Street dining spot closed in June of 2013. The burger will be served at Tico in the Back Bay and is on both its lunch and dinner menu at a price of $15 through Sunday, February 8. BostInno says that Schlow brought the burger back to celebrate Sunday's Super Bowl victory by the Patriots, who took care of the Seattle Seahawks, 28-24.

Tico can be found at 222 Berkeley Street, which is between Boylston Street and St. James Avenue.

The Raven's Nest in Walpole Becomes The Patriot's Nest Once Again

An Irish pub and restaurant southwest of Boston is showing its support for the New England Patriots yet again as the team gets ready for a big playoff game this weekend.

According to an article in The Medfield Press, The Raven's Nest in Walpole Center has temporarily changed its name to "The Patriot's Nest" for the third time in the past four years, and the dining and drinking spot is hoping for a win in what is basically a rubber match (the Patriots beat the Baltimore Ravens the first time the pub's name was changed in 2012 but lost to them the following year). The article says that Ravens fans are more than welcome to enjoy food and drink at the place, and "may even feel comfortable sitting among the pub's raven purple."

The address for The Raven's Nest is 998 Main Street (Route 1A), Walpole, MA 02081; its website can be found at http://www.ravenpubs.com/ravensnest/

Montilio's Creates a Life-Size Cake Replica of Rob Gronkowski

A Brockton-based bakery has teamed up with the world's largest coffee and baked goods chain to create a cake version of one of Boston's most beloved sports figures.

The Boston Globe is reporting that Montilio's has made a life-size cake replica of tight end Rob Gronkowski of the New England Patriots. The cake sculpture, which was made for the "DD Gronkoff" Facebook sweepstakes for Dunkin' Donuts (for whom Gronk is a spokesperson), took about 80 hours to make and has enough ingredients for 15 sheet-cakes, according to the article. The toughest part of the process was apparently getting Gronk's haircut right, which took nearly a whole day to do.

The cake will be unveiled today at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, with winners of the contest getting to meet the Patriots player--as well as dining on Dunkin' Donuts Bakery Sandwiches.

Thanks to Eater Boston for bringing this to our attention (via BostInno).

News Elsewhere: "Gronk Flakes" Arrive at Stop and Shop

One of the New England Patriots' most colorful characters can now be seen in the cereal aisles of a number of New England supermarkets.

CBS Boston reports that "Gronk Flakes" are being sold at participating Stop & Shop markets starting today as well as online at PLBSports.com. Pats tight end Rob Gronkowski was at the Walpole Stop & Shop today to celebrate the introduction of the cereal, at one point saying (in typical Gronk fashion) that the replacement referees who are currently being used for NFL games "need to eat Gronk Flakes....Give them a box."

Some of the proceeds from the sale of Gronk Flakes will go to the Gronk Nation Youth Foundation; for more information, please go to the link below.

The Raven's Nest in Walpole Has Become The Patriot's Nest (for Now)

An Irish restaurant and pub in Walpole Center has decided to temporarily change its name, in a humorous bid to keep Baltimore Ravens fans away.

According to their Facebook page, The Raven's Nest on Route 1A is now The Patriot's Nest, with piece of material that says "Patriot's" covering the part of the sign that ordinarily says "Raven's." According to a note on their page, the pub has made the name change to "ensure no Raven fans come 'round here this weekend en route to the game."

After the game is over (which the Patriots will presumably win), the place will be called The Raven's Nest once again.

If you would like to see a picture of the temporary sign at The Raven's Nest (er, the Patriot's Nest), please go to the following Facebook link: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=352246821453076&set=a.170227982988295.44255.136502639694163

The address for The Raven's Nest is 998 Main Street (Route 1A), Walpole, MA 02081.
