Brooksy's Is Opening in the Former Bertucci's Space in Andover

A new wood-fired pizza restaurant is on its way to a former Bertucci's space north of Boston.

According to an article from the Andover News, Brooksy's is getting ready to open on Main Street in the center of town, with the place offering beer and wine in addition to pizza and having seating for 59. The post mentions that they are waiting to hear back from owner Brooks Rice as to a possible opening date, so stay tuned for a possible update over the coming days.

The Andover location of Bertucci's closed down last spring.

Lala's Neapolitan-ish Pizza to Open Brick-and-Mortar Location in Boston's Fenway

The people behind a mobile wood-fired pizza business based in Somerville will be opening a permanent spot in Boston.

According to a job post within the Craigslist website, Lala's Neapolitan-ish Pizza is planning to open a brick-and-mortar location in the Fenway, with the map shown indicating that it will be coming to Time Out Market Boston on Park Drive. Lala's has been operating as a food truck for the past two years, using a Pavesi oven from Modena, Italy that is built on top of a trailer frame, according to its website.

Source at Time Out Market Boston in the Fenway Has Closed

An outlet of a Cambridge restaurant known in part for its pizza has closed down after only a short time in business.

According to a note sent by Patrick Maguire of Maguire Promotions & Hospitality Consulting, Source at Time Out Market Boston is shuttered, with the website for the food hall confirming this, as the eatery is no longer listed. Source first opened at Time Out Market Boston in late March, joining the original location of Source on Church Street in Cambridge's Harvard Square which debuted in the fall of 2020 in the former Cambridge 1 space.

Source Is Opening at Time Out Market Boston in the Fenway

A Cambridge restaurant that is known in part for its pizza is expanding to Boston's Fenway neighborhood.

According to a press release, Source is opening a new location at Time Out Market Boston later this month, with the new outlet offering wood-fired Neapolitan-style pizza. The original Source on Church Street in Harvard Square first opened in the fall of 2020 in the former Cambridge 1 space, offering pizza, pasta, salads, small plates, and desserts, along with beer, wine, and cocktails.

Fire Dough Kitchen in Sudbury to Expand to Second Location in Framingham

A dining spot in the western suburbs that features wood-fired pizza will soon be joined by a second location in the MetroWest area.

According to an article from the Framingham Source, Fire Dough Kitchen at Wayside Plaza in Sudbury is expanding to Framingham, opening a new outlet on Route 135 in Framingham next to a location of Walgreens just west of the downtown area. Based on the Sudbury shop, expect to see such options as pizza, salads, sandwiches, macaroni and cheese, and wings at the new outlet.

If all goes as planned, the new location of Fire Dough Kitchen could be opening in April.

Da LaPosta Pizzeria Is Opening in the Cook Space in Newtonville

A couple of years ago, it was reported that an artisanal pizzeria was planning to open in Boston's Fort Point neighborhood, and now we have learned that it is opening in a suburban location instead.

According to a post within the jobs section of bostonchefs.com, Da LaPosta Pizzeria is going to be opening in Newtonville, with the address shown in both the job post and a public meeting notice indicating that it will be moving into the space on Washington Street where Cook currently resides. The pizzeria had originally been looking to open in a part of the old Bee's Knees space on Farnsworth Street in Fort Point, but that appears to have fallen through; the person behind the place is Mario LaPosta, who has worked at such spots as the now-closed Babbo Pizzeria e Enoteca in the Seaport District, Bricco in West Hartford, CT, and Tarry Lodge in Westport, CT, and who has also competed in the World Pizza Championship in Italy.

We have reached out to Mario LaPosta and will update this article with any additional information if it comes in.

[August 9 update: A message sent from Mario LaPosta indicates that Da LaPosta will indeed be replacing Cook in Newtonville and that it will focus on sourdough pizzas cooked at 900 degrees in a Marra Forni oven, while daily specials including pasta dishes will also be offered--and the restaurant will serve beer, Southern Italian wine, and cocktails.]

[September 13 update: According to a source, Cook in Newtonville is now closed.]

Wood Fired Love Is Opening in The Squealing Pig Space in Boston's Mission Hill/Brigham Circle Area

It looks like an Irish pub will soon be home to a restaurant that features pizza.

According to a source, Wood Fired Love opening within The Squealing Pig space in the Mission Hill/Brigham Circle section of Boston, with an Instagram page for the pizza spot indicating that it will be opening soon and that Galleon Ventures--which is behind The Squealing Pig--is indeed the group behind the upcoming spot. A message from the restaurant group tells us that the pizza will be available for curbside pickup and delivery at the start.

Another location of The Squealing Pig in West Roxbury closed down last summer, with its other location in Provincetown remaining in operation.

The address for Wood Fired Love in the Mission Hill/Brigham Circle area is 134 Smith Street, Boston, MA, 02120.

[April 6 update: A message from the place indicates that Wood Fired Love is now open, and that The Squealing Pig brand is no longer part of that space, though as mentioned earlier, the Provincetown location of The Squealing Pig remains in operation.]

Volturno Pizza in Worcester Opens New Location in Framingham

A popular Worcester restaurant that specializes in wood-fired pizza has expanded eastward.

Eater Boston is reporting that Volturno Pizza now has a second location on Edgell Road in Framingham, joining its original spot on Shrewsbury Street just east of downtown Worcester. It appears that the new location has similar offerings to the original location, which has traditional Neapolitan thin-crust pizza along with bruschetta, arancini, pasta dishes, brick chicken, braised short ribs, and more.

A few of the pizza options Volturno is known for include margherita, sausage with pistachio pesto, clam, and lemone (sliced lemon is one of the toppings on this pie).

Steel & Rye Team Opening Prairie Fire in Former Lineage Space in Brookline's Coolidge Corner

A new restaurant is on its way to one of the busiest parts of Brookline, and it has a connection to a popular upscale spot in Milton.

According to a job post within the bostonchefs.com site, chef Brendan Joy and the team at Steel & Rye are planning to open Prairie Fire in Coolidge Corner, with the restaurant having a large wood-burning oven and the menu offering regional fare, with charred vegetables, local shellfish, and wood-fired pizza being a few options. The post mentions that the focus will be on "simple yet thoughtful food" that is "rooted in classical technique" while also "preserving, fermenting, brining, and cooking with fire everyday." No address has been given as of yet, and it is not known exactly when Prairie Fire might open (the post simply says "spring"), so stay tuned for updates.

Steel &amp Rye, which first opened in Milton in 2012, is known in part for its inventive New American fare along with its classic and modern cocktails. The Eliot Street restaurant is housed in a former ambulance garage.

[March 6 update: Boston Magazine states that Prairie Fire will open in the former Lineage space on Harvard Avenue and that Steel & Rye operating partners Dan Kerrigan and Bill Scannell are behind it along with chef Brendan Joy. (The article also says that the restaurant will be "a little sibling" to Steel & Rye.)]

[July 28 update: A Patch article says that Prairie Fire plans to open by the end of the summer.]

[September 4 update: A tweet from @BostonAttitude indicates that Prairie Fire is now open.]

[September 5 update: Boston Magazine mentions that Prairie Fire is just open for dinner at this point in time, though lunch service will begin at some point. (The post also says that the restaurant does not take reservations.]

Stoked Wood Fired Pizza Is Opening in Brookline's Washington Square in April

A highly-anticipated pizza spot is getting close to opening in Brookline.

According to a job post within the bostonchefs.com site, Stoked Wood Fired Pizza Co. hopes to open in Washington Square on April 1, with job training starting in the middle of March. As reported earlier, the brick-and-mortar location of the pizza truck is taking over the space on Beacon Street where Sunny Boy had been until closing around the beginning of this year, with Scott Riebling of the Boston rock band Letters to Cleo and Toirm Miller of the former Jack and the Bean Bowl food cart being behind it.

[April 8 update: Stoked did not open on April 1 after all, though a source says that it is less than a week away from opening.]

[April 12 update: According to an Instagram post from Privateer Rum, Stoked plans to open on Thursday, with sources saying that it will offer craft beer, wine, and cocktails in addition to pizza.]

The Stoked pizza truck, which debuted in early 2014, has received much praise for its pies, including Boston Magazine awarding it a "best of" for 2015.
