Journeyman in Somerville Decides to Go Menu-Less

A restaurant in Somerville that focuses on locally-sourced foods has decided to make a rather interesting change.

According to a post from the dining spot, Journeyman in Union Square has gotten rid of its menu, with the Sanborn Court eatery going instead with a $75 fixed-price dinner each night--though a $40 dinner option will also be available after 8:30 PM on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. The post does mention that a vegetarian menu will continue to be offered, wine pairings and non-alcoholic pairings will still be available, and that they will "always do [their] best to accommodate dietary restrictions."

New Restaurant to Move into the Former Fat Cactus Space in Randolph

It appears that a new restaurant is going to be moving into the space where one of a pair of Mexican eateries had once been.

According to a job post on the Craigslist site, an unnamed eating and drinking establishment will apparently take over the former Fat Cactus space within the Comfort Inn hotel, which is just south of the Route 128/93/1 intersection in Randolph. The Fat Cactus closed this spring after being in business for approximately two years. (The original Fat Cactus remains open on Route 1 in Lynnfield.)

As soon as we hear of a name for this new restaurant and bar, we will post an update here.

Iron Town Diner in Saugus Has Opened

It looks like a new diner has opened a few miles north of Boston.

A message sent from The Passionate Foodie indicates that the Iron Town Diner is now open in Saugus, moving into the space on Main Street where J. Pace & Son had been before it moved to a new spot further east on Main Street. A check on the Instagram and Facebook pages of the restaurant seems to confirm that the place indeed opened over the past day or so.

Currently, there does not appear to be a website or menu up for the Iron City Diner; as soon as they go online, we will post an update here.

Lola 41 Is Coming to Boston's Back Bay

The person behind a trio of restaurants on Nantucket is looking to bring a second location of one of them to Boston.

According to one of our readers, Marco Coelho of Pazzo, Lola Burger, and Lola 41 is planning to open a location of the latter in the city's Back Bay neighborhood. The reader mentions that Lola 41 is apparently coming to 50 Gloucester Street, which a page from Bizapedia seems to prove, and an article in Yesterday's Island, Today's Nantucket confirms that the restaurant is indeed coming to the Back Bay.

The address given in Bizapedia is also the same one that a proposed spot called Ambrosia on Gloucester was possibly coming to, but it is not yet known whether that project fell through or if it might open in another location (keep checking back for updates).

Lola 41 is an upscale eatery that features such items as sushi, slow-roasted pork belly, macaroni and cheese, pan-seared halibut, gnocchi, hanger steak, and the Lola burger, along with a variety of cocktails. Its website can be found at http://www.lola41.com/

Highlights for the Week Ending September 6, 2013

A few more stories and articles centering on the Boston-area restaurant scene came out over the past week, including a waterside club closing for the season over drug issues (and perhaps closing forever), a Mexican restaurant near Fenway Park closing its doors, and a burger place coming to Cambridge's Central Square. Life Alive Planning to Open Second Location in Cambridge

It looks like a local group of cafes that features healthy, organic food is going to be opening a fourth location in the area.

Eater Boston is reporting (via the restaurant's Facebook page) that Life Alive is planning to open a second spot in Cambridge, with the new eatery possibly coming in the summer of 2014. The existing outlet in Cambridge can be found on Mass. Ave. in Central Square, while the original location of Life Alive is in Lowell (another one resides in Salem).

Once it opens, expect the new Life Alive in Cambridge to offer vegetarian, vegan, raw, gluten-free, and macrobiotic foods.

[August 31, 2015 update: Based on an interview with owner Heidi Feinstein in the Cambridge Chronicle/TAB, Life Alive is still looking for a second location in Cambridge two years after it was first announced, with Feinstein saying that "We hope to open another restaurant in Cambridge this coming year in 2016. We're looking for another square, but close by."]
