A small chain of wing places that got its start in Massachusetts has closed one of its Boston-area locations.

According to a Facebook post from Boston-based editor and DJ Michael Marotta, Wings Over Brookline is no longer in operation, with the place saying that the closure was "due to circumstances outside of our control." The chain refers customers to its Boston and Somerville locations, while other outlets in the region include shops in Framingham, Lowell, and Worcester.

Caffe Nero and Wingstop to Open in Same Building in South Boston

A London-based chain of coffee shops and a Texas-based chicken wing chain are looking to open new locations in South Boston, and they will apparently be housed in the same building.

Eater Boston is reporting (via @draftgods) that Caffe Nero and Wingstop are both planning on opening at 416 W. Broadway, which is at the corner of F Street one block west of the Dorchester Street intersection. Caffe Nero currently has nine locations in the Greater Boston area (including a nearby location in Fort Point), while Wingstop has two locations in East Boston and Medford.

It is not yet known when the South Boston location of Wingstop might open, but Eater says that Caffe Nero could possibly debut in mid- to late spring in 2017.

The website for Caffe Nero can be found at http://www.caffenero.com/ while the website for http://www.wingstop.com/ is at http://www.wingstop.com/

[June 10, 2017 update: The new location of Caffe Nero could be one step closer to opening by this coming week, as the Boston Licensing Board will look into its request for a common victualler license on Wednesday, June 14. (The status of Wingstop is still not known.)]

[August 9, 2017 update: According to a tweet, Caffe Nero soft-opened in South Boston today, with the place being open from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM and serving free coffee to its customers.]

Wingstop Opening Locations in Medford and East Boston

Nearly eight years after first reporting about it, a Texas-based chicken wing chain will finally be bringing its first locations to the Boston area.

An email sent today indicates that Wingstop plans to open shops in Medford and East Boston, with the former opening this Wednesday at the Fellsway Plaza and the latter coming this fall to Central Square. Based on the other locations of the chain, expect to see wings, boneless wings, and chicken tenders with a wide variety of sauces offered.

Back in late 2008, we had mentioned that Wingstop--which is headquartered in Dallas--had signed franchise agreements to open a couple of locations in the Boston area. Currently, the only three shops in New England can be found in Hartford, Storrs, and Vernon, CT.

The website for Wingstop is at http://www.wingstop.com/

[November 15 update: A Twitter post sent from the place indicates that the East Boston location of Wingstop will open on Wednesday, November 16, making this the second shop to open in the local area (the other opening in Medford over the summer, as mentioned above).]

Native Grill and Wings to Come to Boston

A small chain of restaurants known for its Buffalo wings--and with a connection to the city where it all started--is on its way to the local area.

According to an article in the Phoenix Business Journal, Native Grill & Wings is planning to expand to Boston, confirming what an earlier article in Nation's Restaurant News says about a regional area development agreement being set up in New England for them. It is not known exactly when the chain will debut in the area (or how many may open around Boston), with the Business Journal simply saying that eight franchised locations will come to cities such as Boston, Boise, Dallas, Tulsa, Tucson, and Yuma over the next several years.

According to its website, Buffalo natives Floyd and Judy Anderson moved to Arizona in the late 1970s and opened a place called Native New Yorker, which initially specialized in pizza but changed its focus to wings. In 2014, the restaurant changed its name to Native Grill & Wings and today has locations in Arizona, Montana, South Dakota, and Texas. (Niagara Frontier Publications states that the Andersons were inducted into the Buffalo Wing Hall of Fame in 2014.)

The website for Native Grill & Wings can be found at https://nativegrillandwings.com/

Moody's Delicatessen and Provisions Is Opening The Backroom in Former Wings Express Space

An award-winning deli and specialty food shop in Waltham is expanding into the space where a wings spot had been.

A Twitter post from @ryangrannand (via information from @CouncilW9) indicates that Wings Express on Moody Street is no longer in business, with Moody's Delicatessen and Provisions taking over the space. According to @CouncilW9, the expansion will allow Moody's to have more seating. Last year we reported that the Wings Over chain was looking to take over the Wings Express space, but that fell through and Wings Express continued in operation up until now. Based on a Twitter note from @brandnewwatch, it looks like Wings Express may have shuttered over the past few days.

Moody's Delicatessen and Provisions first opened its doors last fall and has since received a number of accolades, including a "Best Of" award from Boston Magazine this year.

The address for the former Wings Express space was 464 Moody Street, while the address for Moody's is 468 Moody Street. The website for Moody's can be found at http://moodyswaltham.com/

[August 20 update: Boston Magazine mentions that Moody's expansion will give the spot a capacity of up to 50, with the space having a full bar with 16 seats and an "island of slicers." The article also says that owner Joshua Smith plans to set up a 10,000-square-foot food manufacturing facility somewhere in the nearby area that will ultimately allow Moody's to distribute its foods to dining spots around the country.]

[December 10 update: It looks like the new "restaurant" section of Moody's is getting close to opening, as a post within the jobs section of the BostonChefs.com site indicates that it is now hiring for cook positions. In addition, an Instagram photo from this week shows a picture of the outside of the former Wings Express space, with a note saying "We have a storefront."]

[February 5, 2015 update: According to a new post within the jobs section of the BostonChefs.com site, the expanded space at Moody's will be a wine bar that features a wood-fired oven, with the restaurant/bar being open for dinner Tuesday through Saturday.]

[March 20, 2015 update: A new article in Boston Magazine mentions that the new concept from Moody's--which will be called The Backroom--plans to open April 8.]
