An Italian restaurant on the North Shore that has been in business for three years is morphing into a new neighborhood spot that will focus on American classics with a regional focus.
According to a press release, Evviva Cucina in Beverly is being replaced by REV Kitchen and Bar, with the Enon Street space retaining the same ownership while changing the concept of the place. A couple of items that REV will offer include burgers (using beef from Creekstone Farms in Kansas) and fried pizza, while drinks will include craft beer and cocktails. The new restaurant and bar will also have a patio set up during the warmer months.
REV Kitchen and Bar is set to open on September 4 after a one-day renovation of the space.

Durgin-Park in Boston's Faneuil Hall Is Closing

It looks like a landmark Boston restaurant that has been in business for nearly 200 years may be shutting down, though details are just coming out now.
According to a Twitter post from Jonathan Choe of NBC10 Boston, workers at Durgin-Park in Faneuil Hall have been told that the restaurant is closing on January 12, though a more recent tweet from Choe says that Ark Restaurants (the company behind the place) has not yet responded to the news, while a spokesperson for Faneuil Hall states that it is still under a lease agreement and a formal closing notification has not been submitted. Another post from Choe states "workers now scrambling to find new jobs. They say management told them the business is no longer profitable, operating costs too high, and now dealing with intense competition from emergence of new restaurants in nearby Seaport District."
Durgin-Park, which first opened in 1827, is known in part for its classic American and regional New England fare.

L'Espalier in Boston's Back Bay Is Closing

One of Boston's best-known restaurants is getting ready to call it a day.
According to an article in The Boston Globe, L'Espalier on Boylston Street is closing on December 31, as chef/owner Frank McClelland says "The lease is up, and I don't really have the desire to continue to do this and renew." The post says that McClelland is working on a new project, though no information has been given on that as of yet.
L'Espalier, which first opened in 1978, has gained national recognition over the years as a high-end restaurant featuring French and regional cuisine that has seen the likes of such well-known people as Mick Jagger, Henry Kissinger, and Julia Child, according to the Globe. McClelland has owned the place since 1988, when he purchased it from Moncef Meddeb, who was the original owner and chef. The restaurant started out on Boylston Street, moving to Gloucester Street in 1982, then moving back to Boylston Street to its current home in 2008 next to the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.

OpenTable's Picks for Most Scenic Restaurants in the U.S. Includes Legal Harborside, Top of the Hub

An online restaurant reservations provider has come out with its picks for the most scenic dining spots in the United States, and two Boston restaurants have been included on the list.
According to a post from USA Today, OpenTable has included Legal Harborside and Top of the Hub among the country's top 100 most scenic restaurants, with the former being located in the city's Seaport District and the latter being at the top of the Prudential Tower in the Back Bay. The list also includes several other dining spots in New England, including the Boat House in Tiverton, RI, The Mooring Restaurant in Newport, RI, The Ocean House Restaurant in Dennis Port, MA, and Simon Pearce Restaurant in Quechee, VT.
The list is based on reviews of more than 28,000 restaurants in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. collected between June 1, 2017 and May 31, 2018.

Fin Point Oyster Bar & Grille Opens within Hilton Hotel in Boston's Financial District
A brand new restaurant has come to a hotel in downtown Boston, and it takes over the space where a couple of other dining spots had been.
Eater Boston is reporting that Fin Point Oyster Bar & Grille is now open within the Hilton Hotel in the city's Financial District, replacing a restaurant called 89 Broad that had been there for a short time, and before that, Nix's Mate. The article says that the new eatery focuses on seafood items along with classic New England dishes, and it also offers beer, wine, and cocktails.
Nix's Mate first opened in the space in 2012 and was once part of a group of restaurants that included locations in Nantucket, Newburyport, Plymouth, Hartford, CT, and South Windsor, CT (the two Connecticut locations are the only ones that currently remain in operation).

Papa Razzi Metro in Burlington Is Closing
A local group of Italian restaurants is closing one of its locations--and this one went through a reconcepting not too long ago.
According to a poster on Twitter, Papa Razzi Metro in Burlington is closing, with a phone call placed to the Wall Street dining spot confirming that this is indeed the case. While the Twitter post indicates that the restaurant is shutting down at the end of the month, the person we talked to said that it will actually be closing on October 16. No reason has been given for the closure at this point in time.
Papa Razzi in Burlington changed over to Papa Razzi Metro last year, with the new concept focusing on scratch-made New England dishes along with Italian items, including small shareable plates and larger entrees. Other locations of the original Papa Razzi can be found in Boston, Concord, Framingham, and Wellesley.

West Bridge in Cambridge's Kendall Square is Closing
An upscale French-New England fusion restaurant in Cambridge is getting ready to close its doors.
Eater Boston is reporting that West Bridge in the city's Kendall Square neighborhood is shutting down at the end of the month, with co-owners Alexis Gelburd-Kimler and Matthew Gaudet saying in a statement, "Our team is so proud of what we've accomplished in the last three years of West Bridge, however we have decided to close our doors at the end of December to pursue new opportunities... We are profoundly grateful to our employees, friends, family, investors, mentors, loyal customers and neighbors to have had this opportunity, and could not have done it without all of your support." According to EB, the dining spot will be replaced by Mamaleh's Delicatessen, which will be run by the team behind State Park and the now-closed Hungry Mother (minus Barry Maiden); that restaurant--as reported earlier--should be opening sometime in the spring of 2016.
West Bridge first opened in May of 2012, featuring such dishes as pig heads, venison, lamb shoulder, fluke, ribs, and more, along with an array of beers, wines and cocktails. The eatery was named as one of the 12 most outstanding restaurants of 2013 by GQ, and Gaudet was picked as one of the best new chefs of 2013 by Food & Wine magazine. (West Bridge was also nominated for best new restaurant in America for 2013 by Bon Appetit.)

Puritan and Company in Cambridge's Inman Square Plans to Expand, Add Retail Space
A Cambridge restaurant that features modern takes on traditional New England fare is making plans to expand its space.
According to an article in the Cambridge Chronicle and TAB, Puritan & Company in the city's Inman Square neighborhood is looking to use its adjacent storage space to enlarge the spot, with the 2,000-square-foot space being used for a 25-seat private dining area along with retail space. In the article/interview, owner Will Gilson says that he hopes to have the private section in place by the end of November and the retail area being ready possibly by next spring, though Gilson is not yet sure what kind of retail space it will be. (He hopes to get feedback on what to do with the space from the surrounding neighborhood along with others who work at the restaurant.)
Puritan & Company first opened in the fall of 2012, with Gilson previously working as a chef at the now-closed Cambridge gastropub Garden at the Cellar and also being involved with a series of pop-up restaurants in the Boston area and elsewhere. In addition to the upcoming expansion of Puritan & Company, Gilson has another project in the works as well, as he is getting ready to open a a takeout place called Beatnik Beverage Company in Kendall Square.

Durgin-Park Space at Boston's Faneuil Hall Marketplace Has Been Sold

The space that houses a landmark Boston restaurant that has been in business for nearly 200 years has been sold.
The Boston Herald is reporting that New York-based Ashkenazy Acquisition Corp. has purchased the Durgin-Park space (not the restaurant itself) for $4 million. The well-known Faneuil Hall eatery will apparently remain as is, with the Herald stating that the restaurant "expects to keep on cooking with its long-term lease still in effect." Ark Restaurants has owned the actual Durgin-Park restaurant since 2007--and it appears that they will continue to do so--while the seller of the restaurant space is a partnership including members of the Kelley family (the former operators of Durgin-Park before Ark bought it).
Durgin-Park first opened in 1827, though the space had been used as a dining spot since 1742, according to the restaurant's website. The eatery offers classic American and regional New England fare, including fish cakes, chicken pot pie, clam rolls, pot roast, prime rib of beef, steamed lobsters, Boston schrod, roast stuffed turkey, and Indian pudding. The dining spot is also known in part for its surly waitstaff.

NECN's "Baby, You're the Best" Food Competition Is Up and Running
A regional cable news network has set up a food competition with 12 categories included, and the voting will take place for a good part of the spring and summer.
According to their website, NECN's "Baby, You're the Best" competition is currently in full swing, with voting on ice cream having just ended (the next featured vote is for pizza). Among the categories for best food in New England are best fried clams, donuts, hot dogs, chowder, cupcakes, and more. Results of the ice cream vote will be posted on Monday, June 4, with nominations for pizza closing on Sunday, June 3 (the pizza poll goes live on Monday, June 4, and wraps up on Wednesday, June 6). Other categories will follow over the coming days and weeks; as soon as NECN posts an exact schedule for the voting, we will post an update here.

Quaker Steak and Lube May Be Coming to Boston, Other New England Cities
A small chain of casual family restaurants that specializes in chicken wings may be coming to New England, including a possible location in Boston.
According to syracuse.com, Quaker Steak & Lube is looking to open several locations in New England, with Portland, ME, being the most likely candidate at this point. The article mentions that other locations of the chain might be opening in Boston, Springfield, Providence, RI, Manchester, NH, and Hartford, CT.

According to syracuse.com, Quaker Steak & Lube is looking to open several locations in New England, with Portland, ME, being the most likely candidate at this point. The article mentions that other locations of the chain might be opening in Boston, Springfield, Providence, RI, Manchester, NH, and Hartford, CT.

Valentine's Day Dining in Boston, 2010
Valentine's Day is only three days away, and Boston-area restaurants are surely filling up fast with reservations. There is still time to find a dining spot to go to on Sunday, February 14, though, including some area favorites for romantic dinners. If you are looking for ideas on where to go for Valentine's Day in and around Boston, there are a few websites that might be of help, including our sister site, Boston's Hidden Restaurants. A List of New England Restaurants on Twitter
A little while ago, we created a list of Boston-area restaurants that are on the Twitter site. We now have a list of restaurants throughout the rest of New England that are also on Twitter.
Both the New England list and the Boston-area list are within our Facebook fan page, but anyone can see these lists, including those who are not yet Facebook members.

We are Looking for Reader Reviews of New England Restaurants
Our parent site (Boston's Hidden Restaurants) has a section on Unevaluated Restaurants Around Boston and New England that features dining spots all over New England that we have not tried yet, but we consider to be places that fit into our theme of unique and mostly little-known restaurants with interesting features. We have added a number of such restaurants over the past couple of weeks, so feel free to look at this feature and post reviews of any places that you have been to.

Give Us Your Restaurant Reviews
Our site (Boston's Hidden Restaurants) includes a number of dining spots across New England that we have not yet been to, but consider to be places of interest, as they seem to fit into our theme of little-known restaurants that are local favorites. There are so many of these restaurants, however, that we have had to narrow down the restaurants mainly to places that have something particularly interesting or unique, such as outdoor dining along a river, a location in an historic structure, mountain views from a deck, hard-to-find cuisine such as Polish food, and so on.

Our Latest Road Trip: The North Shore and Cape Ann
Boston's Hidden Restaurants occasionally does a food-based road trip to try to find some interesting roadside food joints, classic diners, local watering holes, and hot dog and hamburger stands that dot the New England countryside. The latest road trip was a drive up to the North Shore and Cape Ann (north of Boston) on Patriot's Day weekend. And while this part of Massachusetts is mostly known for its excellent seafood restaurants and clam shacks, the trip that we did was all about hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza, and roast beef.

Two New RSS Feeds for Boston's Hidden Restaurants
The Boston's Hidden Restaurants site continues to add more RSS feeds, this time adding a feed for the Viewers' Favorite Restaurants feature, as well as for the Unreviewed Restaurants section.
The Viewers' Favorite Restaurants feature is a section where our readers can post information on restaurants that they think are truly special places. As of this moment, our readers have given us about 100 reviews, with more coming in each week. The RSS feed for this section, which shows the latest posts from our readers is:

More Restaurants for Readers to Review
Last week I mentioned a few restaurants that we had just added to the Unreviewed Restaurants section of Boston's Hidden Restaurants. This week I'm going to list a few more that are in this featured section of the site. (Just a quick reminder that the restaurants in this feature are places that we have not reviewed yet, but that we believe may be interesting places to try.)
One place that we think looks very interesting is the Mile Away Restaurant, which is a Swiss restaurant located in a farm in Milford, NH, a short distance north of the Massachusetts border. Another interesting sounding dining spot is Gian Carlo's Ristorante, an Italian restaurant in the old mill complex of Woonsocket, RI. A place that sounds like it is the perfect spot for a special occasion is the Altnaveigh Inn and Restaurant Altnaveigh Inn and Restaurant in Storrs, CT, which is just east of Hartford near the University of Connecticut. And last but not least is Becky's Diner, an old-school dining spot in Portland, ME, that seems to be a favorite among the locals.

Several New Restaurants For Readers to Review!
The Unreviewed Restaurants section of Boston's Hidden Restaurants continues to grow, with four new entries to this section.
Before I mention the new listings, a quick explanation is needed as to the purpose of the Unreviewed Restaurants section. First of all, the restaurants listed here are places that we have not reviewed yet, but tend to be lesser-known, interesting looking New England restaurants that seem to be good fits for our site. Second, these restaurants can be reviewed by our readers, as each page has a form where viewers can let us know what they think.
So which restaurants have we recently added? Well, one place, Sharky's Cantina, is a Mexican restaurant in Oak Bluffs on Martha's Vineyard that seems to be a fun, casual place for folks who are heading to or from the ferry, which is close by. Another place in Massachusetts is Autentica, restaurant in South Hadley that features New Mexican cuisine. Up north, the Bobcat Cafe is a brewpub in the scenic town of Bristol, VT, that features a number of microbrews and a bar that is a hundred years old. Finally, if you like steamed hamburgers (and who doesn't?), Ted's Restaurant in Meriden, CT, sounds like a place to check out.
