Bardo's Bar Pizza to Debut Mobile Pizza Trailer at Castle Island Brewery in Norwood; Further Expansion Plans in the Works

A year and a half ago, the owners of a longtime function space teamed up with a local brewer to serve bar pizza out of the kitchen of one of its locations, and now we have learned that the partnership will extend to the other location of the beer company--and more plans are on the way as well.

According to a press release, Bardo's Bar Pizza will be setting up a mobile pizza trailer at Castle Island Brewery in Norwood, joining its original location within the kitchen of the brewery in South Boston. The trailer is expected to be up and running as of May 1, and David Lombardo, who is Director of Operations of the Lombardo's Hospitality Group (which operates an event venue in Randolph), says that "This is the first in a series of planned initiatives for us throughout 2023-2024 including our retail launch and we are currently seeking a location for the next brick and mortar location for Bardo's....Right now, our main focus is launching more of our Bardo's Bar Pizza locations, our retail and vetting other opportunities locally."

Castle Island Brewing Co. first opened in Norwood in 2015, with the South Boston location--and Bardo's--opening in the fall of 2021.

The Paddy Wagon (Inflatable Irish Pub) Debuts in Boston

Last month we reported that the first Irish pub of its kind in the region--if not the entire country--was being planned for Boston. Now we have learned that a similar concept has come to the area first.

According to an article/interview from BostInno, The Paddy Wagon is now up and running in the Boston area, with the inflatable Irish pub being available for birthday celebrations, graduation parties, weddings, corporate events, and more. The post says that the pub includes food and drink along indoor and outdoor seating, a fake fireplace, windows, two doors, and a full bar, and that entertainment options include a DJ and a traditional Irish band. Two Paddy Wagon pub options are actually available, with one being for smaller events and the other for larger events.

In June, it was learned that a tiny mobile pub called The Shebeen was expected to come to Boston sometime this month, with that pub including a thatch roof, fake brick walls, a wooden floor, Irish memorabilia, and two draft lines.

For more information on The Paddy Wagon, please go to http://www.thepaddywagonpub.com/

Tenoch Is Opening in Somerville's Davis Square

The person behind two Mexican restaurants and a food truck in the Boston area is planning to expand once again, with a new location of the eatery slated for one of the busiest parts of Somerville.

The Boston Globe confirms what Eater Boston mentioned earlier, that Tenoch is looking to open on the edge of Davis Square, with the restaurant possibly into the Highland Avenue space where Kickass Cupcakes had been before moving up the street (and ultimately closing).

[May 19, 2015 update: A new article from Eater Boston states that the upcoming Somerville location of Tenoch will not be in the former Kickass Cupcakes spot at 378 Highland Avenue, but in the former M3 space at 382 Highland Avenue instead. (No opening date for the place has been given as of yet.)]

[July 15, 2015 update: Eater Boston states that the new location of Tenoch in Somerville may be opening sometime in August, and that it plans to offer breakfast (and it could serve beer and wine if a liquor license is approved).]

[November 11, 2015 update: Tenoch has not yet opened in Somerville's Davis Square, but it appears to be close to opening, as a Facebook post from this week states that they are "just waiting on a few details."]

[December 14, 2015 update: According to a Twitter post from Boston Globe writer @kcbaskin, the new Tenoch in Somerville's Davis Square opens this Thursday (December 17).]

Currently, locations of Tenoch can be found on Riverside Avenue in Medford and on Lewis Street in Boston's North End, with a food truck also operating as well.

The website for Tenoch is at http://www.tenochmexican.com/

Greenway Mobile Food Fest Coming to Boston, May 5, 2012

A food festival that was supposed to be held on the Rose Kennedy Greenway in downtown Boston last fall--only to be canceled due to the Occupy Boston encampment at the same site--is planning to give it another go next month.

The Boston Globe is reporting that the Mobile Food Fest will take place on Saturday, May 5 from 11:30 AM to 7:00 PM at Dewey Square Park (across from South Station). The event will feature more than 20 local food trucks and carts as well as a cook-off, music, and children's activities. A canned food drive that supports the Greater Boston Food Bank will also take place at the festival. The event is free and open to the public.

The Mobile Food Fest had been scheduled for October 15, 2011 at the same site, but an ongoing series of demonstrations by Occupy Boston led to the Rose Kennedy Greenway Conservancy deciding to postpone the event.

Food truck lovers in Boston will have several new locations to choose from this season, as the city has just announced an expansion of the food truck program.

The Boston Business Journal reports that new food truck locations will be coming to the Financial District, Chinatown, the Back Bay, and the South End for 2012, with trucks being at the following sites:

Financial District: Two trucks on the corner of Milk Street and Kilby Street
Chinatown: One truck across from the Registry of Motor Vehicles
Back Bay: Two trucks near Copley Square at Stuart Street and Trinity Place
South End: One truck at Tremont Street and Berkeley Street

The article also mentions that three food truck sites from last year are no longer in existence--two in Bay Village and one in the Financial District (at Milk Street on Post Office Square).

Coolidge Corner No Longer Included in Brookline Food Truck Pilot Program

As we reported earlier, Brookline will soon see food trucks coming to its community, but there apparently won't be any in one of its busiest neighborhoods, at least for now.

The Brookline TAB is reporting that the John Street site in Coolidge Corner has been taken off the shelf, due at least in part to the concern of neighbors about the potential sounds and smells of the trucks being a disruption to the neighborhood. The article mentions that because of John Street no longer being one of Brookline's food truck sites, two vendors--BBQsmith and Bon Me--will apparently no longer be setting up shop in the community. If the program seems to be working out, however, the possibility does exist that Coolidge Corner could possibly have a food truck site later in the season, according to the TAB.

The Cannoli Cart May Be Coming to SoWa Open Market This Year

A new mobile food spot may be on its way to the SoWa Open Market in Boston's South End this year, and it looks to feature a popular Italian treat.

This past weekend, the EveryBlock Boston site reported that The Cannoli Cart received a business license to operate at 460 Harrison Avenue, which is the site of the market which features a wide variety of vendors, including food trucks, artists, photographers, florists, and more. The Cannoli Cart would join a number of food vendors, with a few of last year's options including Clover Food Truck, Bon Me, Grillo's Pickles, Staff Meal, Silk Road BBQ, C-Cup Cupcakes, and South End Pita.

At this point in time, very little is known about the planned Cannoli Cart; as soon as we find out more information, we will post an update here.

The address for the SoWa Open Market is 460 Harrison Avenue, Boston, MA, 02118. The website for the market can be found at http://www.sowaopenmarket.com/

The trucks, which should be up and running by late afternoon or early evening on Friday, December 31, will include at least the following (more may be coming--we'll post any updates here): The Roslindale-based Buffalo Bo's, which offers burgers, hot dogs, chili, ribs, and steak tips; Cambridge's Clover Food Truck, which features vegetarian fare; and Grilled Cheese Nation, which sells a variety of grilled cheese sandwiches.
