The Abbey in Brookline Opening Second Location in Former Addis Red Sea Space in Cambridge

[Ed note: This article was updated on November 22 to reflect confirmation of where the restaurant will open.]

The folks behind a neighborhood restaurant and bar in Brookline are going to be opening a second location, with this one being across the river.

According to a poster on the Chowhound site (and confirmed by @BostonTweet), the owners of The Abbey on Beacon street in Washington Square will open a new spot, which looks like it will be in Cambridge. A Facebook post from the restaurant shows a picture of Addis Red Sea on Mass. Ave. (just outside of Porter Square), though we have not been able to completely confirm that this is indeed the exact location of the dining spot.

[November 22 update: Based on information from an article from Eater Boston and a post on Chowhound, it looks like we can now say for certain that The Abbey will be moving into the Addis Red Sea space. (The EB photo shows the windows at Addis being papered over, and the Chowhound poster has said that as well.)]

The Abbey first opened in Brookline in September of 2010, moving into the space where Dalia's Bistro and Wine Bar had been. The restaurant focuses mainly on New American fare.

Wahlburgers Reality Show Coming to A&E

Two years ago, we wrote about the Wahlberg brothers possibly starting a reality show about Wahlburgers, their burger restaurant in Hingham. Now we have learned that this will finally be happening.

Boston Magazine is reporting (via an interview on The Arsenio Hall Show) that Mark and Donnie are indeed going to be producing the show--called Wahlburgers--which will be shown on A&E, with a starting date of January 22, 2014. Paul Wahlberg, who is the brother of Mark and Donnie and is the executive chef of Wahlburgers, will also be in the unscripted series, along with other family members and various friends.

[December 12 update: Based on a post from Eater National, the date of January 22 for the premiere of Wahlburgers has been confirmed.]

Wahlburgers first opened at the Hingham Shipyard in October of 2011, featuring burgers, hot dogs, fries, onion rings, frappes, and more (Paul also owns another spot at the complex called Alma Nove). It is located at 19 Shipyard Drive in Hingham.

The Elephant Walk in Waltham Has Closed

A French and Cambodian restaurant west of Boston has closed its doors.

According to a Twitter post from @BrandNewWatch (via the restaurant's website), The Elephant Walk in Waltham is no longer in business, with the dining spot saying that ​the locations in Boston and Cambridge (which are under separate ownership) will remain open. The Waltham location of The Elephant Walk had previously been home to Carambola, which first opened in the late 1990s and was mainly a Cambodian spot, with the place changing its name (and adding French dishes to its menu) about eight years ago.

Tuscan Grill in Waltham Has Closed; Red Bird to Open in Its Space

[Ed note: This article was updated on March 20, 2014 to reflect a name given to the new place.]

An upscale restaurant in Waltham has closed its doors, though it looks like a new dining spot (apparently from the same owners) will be moving into its space.

A Twitter post from @BrandNewWatch indicates that Tuscan Grill on Moody Street is shuttered, with a note out front saying that the Northern Italian eatery is "closed for renovations and an exciting new beginning in 2014." The note also thanks customers for its "22 terrific years."

[March 20, 2014 update: A Twitter post from @DowntownWaltham mentions that the name of the restaurant replacing Tuscan Grill will be "The Red Bird." No other details on the dining spot have been given, so keep checking back for more updates. (Thanks to @BrandNewWatch for bringing this to our attention.)]

[June 26, 2014 update: According to a post within the jobs section of the BostonChefs.com site, Red Bird will be a 70-seat restaurant that offers New American fare, with the place being open for dinner Tuesday through Sunday (weekend brunch and lunch service may also be a possibility). It appears that the dining spot will open sometime in July.]

[July 2, 2014 update: The Boston Globe reports that Red Bird is opening on July 15.]

Tuscan Grill featured such items as wood-grilled calamari, marinated olives, spaghetti vongole, a spit-roasted half chicken, and grilled hanger steak. The rustic dining spot also had an extensive wine list.

Highlights for the Week Ending November 8, 2013

DePasquale's Homemade Pasta Shoppe in Boston's North End to Move, Become Bricco Salumeria and Pasta Shoppe

A pasta shop in the North End of Boston is going to be moving--and undergoing a name change.

NorthEndWaterfront.com is reporting that DePasquale's Homemade Pasta Shoppe on Cross Street is moving to Hanover Street and will become Bricco Salumeria and Pasta Shoppe, with the store opening next to Bricco Panetteria. (DePasquale Ventures, which is headed up by Frank DePasquale, runs the pasta shop as well as Bricco and Bricco Panetteria, Bliss, Mare, Quattro, Trattoria Il Panino, and Umbria Prime.) The article says that once it opens (no date has been given) the newly-named shop will feature an expanded product lineup.
