P&D Indian Street Food Opens in Quincy's Wollaston Neighborhood

A brand new Indian dining spot has opened in Quincy, and it appears to have taken over part of the space that an adjacent Chinese restaurant once had.

According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, P&D Indian Street Food is now open in the city's Wollaston neighborhood, with the poster saying that "Great Chow reduced its footprint and it appears this took up the space they gave up." The Instagram page for the eatery shows such Indian fast food/street food items as samosa pav, panipuri, bhelpuri, vada pav, and dabeli.

The address for P&D Indian Street Food in the Wollaston section of Quincy is 17 Beale Street, Quincy, MA, 02170. Its Instagram page can be found at https://www.instagram.com/pndquincy/

Sweetgreen Is Opening in Boston's Fort Point Neighborhood

[Ed note: This article was updated on December 10 to reflect confirmation of the restaurant coming to Fort Point, as well as a slight adjustment in its address.]

A chain of "farm-to-table" fast food places that opened its first Boston location over the summer is now looking to open another shop, with this one being in one of the hottest neighborhoods for dining in the city.

The Boston Hospitality and Tourism Industry Blog is reporting (via @FortPointer) that Sweetgreen could be coming to the Fort Point area, possibly opening at the new Marriott Residence Inn on Congress Street. A public hearing PDF page from the City of Boston confirms this, mentioning that a design review hearing for installment of signage, canopies, and louvers in the window openings will be taken up next week.

[December 10 update: Eater Boston mentions that Sweetgreen is indeed going to be opening in Fort Point, though the address is going to be 372 Congress Street, not 370 Congress Street as had been originally thought. This puts it next to the Marriott, not inside the hotel.]

[March 31 update: A new article from Eater Boston states that Sweetgreen will have a soft opening for its new store in Fort Point this Wednesday (April 2), with its official opening being Thursday. (The soft opening will be "pay what you want," with all proceeds going to the Mass. Farmers Markets.)]

The Washington, DC-based Sweetgreen, which first started out in 2007, offers salads, wraps, juices, and frozen yogurt, using locally-sourced and organic ingredients for its food and drink items. The chain opened its first location locally on Boylston Street in the Back Bay in June, and also has locations in Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington, DC.

The address for this new eatery is: Sweetgreen, 372 Congress Street, Boston, MA, 02210. The website for the chain is at http://www.sweetgreen.com/

Wendy's New Upscale Concept Has Come to Franklin and Marlborough

A fast-food joint that is known for its burgers has brought a new "upscale" concept to two communities along the Route 495 belt west of Boston.

The Boston Globe is reporting that a new version of Wendy's is now open in Franklin and an existing Wendy's in Marlborough has been changed over to the new format, with each restaurant including a fireplace, flat-screen TVs, WiFi, and a menu that goes well beyond the standard burgers and fries for which the chain is known. The article mentions that the new concept is part of Wendy's "A Cut Above" brand position that aims to differentiate the chain from other fast-food burger spots.

A couple of the items included on the menu at the Wendy's locations in Franklin and Marlborough include a berry almond chicken salad and a spicy guacamole chicken club sandwich, according to the Globe.

The article mentions that a press release shows there only being 10 such Wendy’s restaurants in the entire country that currently have this new concept.

Thanks to the Boston Business Journal for bringing this to our attention.

YO! Sushi May Be Coming to Boston

It looks like a London-based quick-food sushi place has its sights set on Boston.

An email sent to us by Sanderson & Associates indicates that Yo! Sushi may be making its way to the area, as it is currently looking at potential sites for the restaurant chain. Currently, there are no locations of Yo! Sushi in the United States, which is mostly in the United Kingdom (other locations can be found in Ireland, the Middle East and Russia).

Yo! Sushi, which started out in London in 1997, offers a unique dining experience, namely the use of a slow-moving conveyor belt to deliver sushi to diners. In addition to sushi, their menu includes soups, classic Japanese meals (such as gyoza, katsu, tempura, and korroke), and rice and noodle dishes.

The website for the Yo! Sushi chain can be found at: http://www.yosushi.com/

Five Guys Wins Best Burger Category in Zagat Fast Food Survey

Zagat has just announced the results of its fast food survey, and a chain with an increasing presence in the Boston area came out on top in the "best burger" category.

According to a press release on the survey, Virginia-based Five Guys beat out such chains as In-N-Out Burger and Wendy's, and also came in third place for best French fries. (Wendy's won in the overall "top food" category.) The survey, which included nearly 100 major fast food chains and just under 40 full service chains, was based on the votes of more than 6,500 diners who made their picks via the Zagat site.

As recently as three years ago, Five Guys had no locations in the Boston area, but today the burger chain has a number of restaurants around the region, including spots in Dedham, Foxborough, Gloucester, Marlborough, Natick, Randolph, Swampscott, and Walpole, and another location soon coming to Framingham.
