Tasty Burger Is Opening at Boston's North Station

A local group of burger spots is opening a new location--and this one should be popular with both commuters and sports fans.

Boston Magazine is reporting that Tasty Burger is planning to open on the ground floor of the new Avalon North Station residential development, which is located at 1 Nashua Street next to North Station and TD Garden. The article says that the new eatery will be a counter-service spot with a dining room and that it will be open for lunch and dinner, offering such items as burgers, hot dogs, shakes, and more, along with beer and wine.

If all goes as planned, the new Tasty Burger could open in May, joining other nearby locations in Boston's Fenway neighborhood, Back Bay Station, Dudley Square in Roxbury [ed note--now closed], South Boston, and Cambridge's Harvard Square.

The Friendly Toast Plans to Open in Brookline's Coolidge Corner

A trio of eclectic dining spots is planning to open a fourth, and this one would be in one of the busiest sections of Brookline.

According to a couple of sources (including a message sent from the Boston Hospitality and Tourism Industry Blog), The Friendly Toast is looking to open in Coolidge Corner, with a post from mypublicnotices.com confirming this. Based on the post (and one of our sources), the proposed eatery would be moving into the space on Beacon Street where Yasu had been until closing last winter.

The Friendly Toast, which is known in part for its all-day breakfasts, has locations in Boston's Back Bay, Cambridge's Kendall Square, and Portsmouth, NH.

[June 6 update: The Friendly Toast has not opened in Brookline as of yet, and two sources are telling us that the space now has a "For Lease" sign out front and one source says it does not appear that work is currently being done inside.]

SoulFire in Boston's Brigham Circle/Mission Hill Has Closed

A pair of BBQ spots in Boston is back down to one, as its newer shop has closed its doors.

A message sent to us today indicates that SoulFire in the Brigham Circle/Mission Hill section of the city is no longer in business, with an earlier Chowhound post hinting that it may have shut down sometime over the holidays. The dining spot first opened on Huntington Avenue in July of 2012, joining the original on Harvard Avenue in Allston, which remains in operation.

SoulFire offers such items as pulled pork, ribs, brisket, wings, chili, fried chicken, and corn bread.

In a Pig's Eye in Salem to Be Replaced by Mercy Tavern

A North Shore restaurant that briefly closed a few months ago before a new owner reopened it is being replaced by a brand new spot.

According to a job post on the Craigslist site, In a Pig's Eye in Salem is going to become home to Mercy Tavern, with the new owner of In a Pig's Eye--Pat Schultz, who is also the founder of Howling Wolf in Salem--being behind the new place. The post says that the upcoming restaurant will be "one of the most innovative and beautiful eateries/drinkeries in Salem" and that renovations are currently taking place, with the menu also being overhauled; when it opens, Mercy Tavern will focus on "high quality English and American pub food" and hopes to have the "best burger anyone has ever tasted."

In a Pig's Eye shut down in September of 2015 after 30 years in business, and it looked like the closure would be permanent, but in October Schultz took over the space, with the goal being to close for awhile for renovations around the end of 2016 or the beginning of 2017. Bonefish Grill in Burlington Has Closed

A Florida-based seafood chain has shut down one of its Boston-area restaurants.

According to a poster on the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, Bonefish Grill in Burlington is no longer in operation, with a check on the locations page of the chain's website seeming to confirm this, as the dining spot is no longer listed there. Bonefish Grill first opened at Waysides Common in November of 2013, with locations in Waltham and Westwood following (those locations remain in operation).

Papagayo in Saugus Has Closed

A local group of Mexican restaurants has gotten just a bit smaller.

Last week, a tweet from @James13rown indicated that Papagayo on Route 1 in Saugus may have closed, with @CappyinBoston confirming it today, saying that a "For Lease" sign is now shown at the site. A check on the Papagayo website gives further confirmation of this, as the Saugus location has been removed from the site, while locations in Boston's Fort Point, Downtown Crossing, and Somerville's Assembly Row remain in operation.

The Saugus location of Papagayo first opened in June of 2015, and it was actually considered more of a move from City Square in Charlestown rather then a brand new location.
