It looks like a North End bar that was around for a long time may have shut down for good.
NorthEndWaterfront.com is reporting what Adam Castiglioni of the Boston Hospitality and Tourism Industry Blog) told us last week, that Four Winds on Commercial Street is closed. Both Adam and another source told us that the bar appears to have been shuttered for at least a few weeks, and while its exact status is not known, NorthEndWaterfront.com says that the building is going to be sold, so the future of the place does seem to be in doubt.
Four Winds first opened in the late 1960s, according to its Facebook page; the place was a sports bar and restaurant that also had space for functions upstairs.
The address for Four Winds was 266 Commercial Street, Boston, MA, 02109.

MC Kitchen Leaves Time Out Market Boston; Greek Street Opening in Its Space
A vegan dining spot has said goodbye to a new food hall in Boston, and it looks like a Greek restaurant will move into its space.
According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, MC Kitchen at Time Out Market Boston in the Fenway has closed, with a sign indicating that Greek Street will be opening there on October 7. An article from Eater Boston mentions that MC Kitchen is now looking at potential sites for a permanent restaurant including the old Fiorella's Express space in North Cambridge, while it is also considering pop-up locations at a couple of upcoming food halls in the Boston area.
A second post from Eater says that Jody Adams and her partners at Saloniki in Boston and Cambridge (Eric Papachristos and Jon Mendez) are behind Greek Street, which will focus on street-food items found in Greece. The article says that citrus-marinated swordfish souvlaki, spanakopita, pork schnitzel, and Greek salads will be on the menu, while a press release sent to us this morning also mentions that cumin-spiced beef patties will be offered as well.
Time Out Market Boston can be found by the corner of Brookline Avenue and Park Drive in the Fenway.

A restaurant in Quincy Center that features Thai and Japanese food is shutting down, and it looks like it will be making way for ongoing development in the area.

Smashburger May Be Opening a Location in Boston
It looks like a Colorado-based chain of quick-casual burger restaurants is opening its fourth location in the Greater Boston area, and this one may open within the city itself.
According to a number of job posts, including one within the Craigslist site, Smashburger is getting ready to open a new outlet, with the Craigslist post saying "New Restaurant Opening in Boston!" while a corresponding map shows the location possibly being in South Boston or Dorchester (though maps included within job posts are often inaccurate). A search has not come up with an exact location for the upcoming dining spot, so we have reached out to the company for additional information and are waiting to hear back from them.
The Denver-based Smashburger chain was established in 2007, featuring meatball-shaped patties that are "smashed" on the grill, in order to help caramelize the beef and keep in the juices. Currently, Boston-area locations can be found in Medford, Natick, and Westwood, while two others a bit further out can be found in Attleboro and Plainville.

Proposal Being Looked at That Could Affect Joe's American Bar & Grill on the Boston Waterfront
A couple of years ago, it was reported that an investment firm purchased property along the Boston waterfront and that it was looking at a "complex redevelopment plan" that could affect a popular restaurant along the water. Now we have learned that the plans could involve actually replacing that dining spot.
NorthEndWaterfront.com is reporting (via a concept plan page from the company) that Tavistock is looking to construct an inn and a restaurant at Commercial Wharf by Christopher Columbus Park at the southern edge of the North End, with the plan being to replace the building in which Joe's American Bar & Grill is housed while also replacing a "partly burned" building at the site (the building was hit by a fire in 2011). The plan does not say which building would be used for the inn and which would be used for the restaurant, though it does give a bit more information on the site itself, saying that the redevelopment plans include a new pedestrian Harborwalk that would go the entire length of the pier. The article mentions that an information session on the proposal is slated to take place at Joe's on October 15.
The Tavistock Restaurant Collection, which is part of the Tavistock Group, operates Joe's American Bar & Grill.

Allston Property Containing Lulu's Is Up for Sale; Future of Restaurant Unknown
The future of a comfort food restaurant in Allston is up in the air, as the space in which it resides is on the market.
A brochure for "417-433 Cambridge Street" that was tweeted by @allstonratcity indicates that the property housing Lulu's is up for sale, with the executive summary within the brochure saying that it is "a premier redevelopment opportunity with strong in-place income...for sale or proposals for a joint-venture redevelopment of the property." The summary goes on to state that "While there is significant development value in 417-433 Cambridge Street, it is also advantageously leased to a diverse selection of retail tenants, providing investors with a return on their capital before and during the development process." At this point in time, it is not known exactly what will happen to the space where Lulu's resides, nor is it known when any redevelopment could happen, so for now, it appears that the restaurant will continue in operation.
Lulu's first opened in June of 2014 in the space where Cafe Brazil had been; the restaurant offers such items as salsa tots, warm pretzel rolls, deviled eggs, wild game chili, short rib mac and cheese, pork chops, grilled flank steak, pulled pork sandwiches, and more.
The address for Lulu's is 421 Cambridge Street, Allston, MA, 02134. Its website can be found at https://www.lulusallston.com

The Beacon Hill Pub in Boston May Be Replaced by a Fine-Dining Restaurant
A dive bar in the heart of Boston that closed down last year only to reopen under new ownership may be making way for a higher-end spot.
According to an article in the Beacon Hill Times, the Beacon Hill Pub could be replaced by a fine-dining restaurant, as its new owner--the Greater Boston Bar Co.--is working with Babak Bina of BiNA Family Hospitality (jm Curley, Bogie's Place, Bin 26 Enoteca), who will help the group bring in a new owner/operator for the planned opening of an upscale dining spot. The post mentions that the proposal includes replacing the six apartment units above the bar with 16 high-end executive suites.
It appears that plans for the Beacon Hill Pub space and the apartments will be looked at by the Beacon Hill Civic Association Zoning and Licensing Committee this week, while the Beacon Hill Architectural Commission will also need to approve the proposal as well. If approved, it may take 10 to 12 months to complete construction and rehabilitation of the property, according to the article.
The Beacon Hill Pub, which has been in business since at least the 1980s, is considered one of the few dives left in or near Boston's downtown area; the group that took over ownership of the place also took over The Tam in the Theatre District, Sullivan's Tap near North Station, and Mary Ann's in Brighton's Cleveland Circle.
The address for the Beacon Hill Pub is 149 Charles Street, Boston, MA, 02114.
