Pizzing's in Holbrook Has Closed

What once was a trio of South Shore spots featuring pizza and wings appears to be down to only one location.

A check on the place this week indicated that Pizzing's in Holbrook is no longer in business, as the Franklin Street spot was locked up and dark during business hours, while a source in the local area mentions that it has indeed closed. It is not known why the location shut down nor is it known what might take over the space, so keep checking back for updates.

The Holbrook location of Pizzing's was its newest outlet, as it joined locations in Abington and Marshfield in 2019; the Marshfield outlet is now shuttered as well.

The address for the now-closed location of Pizzing's in Holbrook is 134 S Franklin Street (Route 37), Holbrook, MA, 02343. The website for Abington location can be found at https://pizzingspizza.com/

Leggos in Holbrook Has Closed, Plans to Reopen in a New Space

A dining spot in the southern suburbs that is known in part for its breakfast dishes and its shaded patio has shut down, though it hopes to be back in a new space.

According to a source, Leggos in Holbrook closed at the end of business hours yesterday, with a Facebook post from the N Franklin Street eatery confirming this, saying that it was "due to circumstances beyond our control" while also saying that "WE WILL BE BACK! It won't be the same location, but it will be with the same love and care for our friends and our food." It is not yet known whether Leggos is looking to stay in Holbrook or open back up in another town; as soon as we find out more, we will post an update here.

Leggos, which first opened 14 years ago, offered such items as crepes, waffles, pancakes, omelets, sandwiches, meatloaf, fish and chips, tacos, and burritos. Our other site (Boston's Hidden Restaurants) has featured it as an under-the-radar place that was mostly frequented by locals, with the review being at the link below:

https://www.hiddenboston.com/Leggos.html

The address for Leggos was 120 N Franklin Street (Route 37), Holbrook, MA, 02343.

Liberty Publick House in Holbrook Has Closed

A restaurant and bar that resided within a post of an American veterans' organization has shut down.

The dining and drinking spot first opened in early 2018 within an American Legion post on Route 139 by the Abington Line, with the place offering mostly pub grub and comfort food such as wings, burgers, steak tips, fish and chips, pizza, hot dogs, and more.

Donahue's Pub Is Opening in Holbrook

A brand new neighborhood pub is coming to the southern suburbs of Boston, taking over the space where another pub had been hoping to open.

According to a source, Donahue's Pub is getting ready to debut in Holbrook, moving into the former Boston Cream Pie Company on S Franklin Street--and moving into the space where a pub called 32 Counties had been planning to open. Based on a post on its Facebook page, the new bar is not affiliated with 32 Counties, while also saying that it plans to have a "limited" pub grub menu, and another more recent post indicates that Donahue's hopes to open its doors once the restaurant/bar shutdown is lifted (currently May 18 for Massachusetts).

Early last year, we were told that 32 Counties was looking to open in the old Boston Cream Pie Company space, but it never did end up opening, and it isn't known for sure if the pub will try to open elsewhere. Boston Cream Pie Company first opened in the summer of 2017 only to close a year later, with the business originally selling the Boston Cream Pies (along with other pies) from tricycles stationed in Boston.

The address for Donahue's Pub in Holbrook is 783 S Franklin Street, Holbrook, MA, 02343. Its Facebook page can be found at https://www.facebook.com/donahuespub/

[May 25 update: Based on a new post from its Facebook page, Donahue's Pub does not expect to debut until at least June 29 at the earliest because they "don't have the proper kitchen to be a restaurant." (Ed note: With bars without kitchens in Massachusetts moving from Phase 3 to Phase 4 after this post was put up, this means that such bars might not be able to open until next year, based on whenever a vaccine/therapeutic might be ready.)]

[October 28 update: A new Facebook post indicates that Donahue's will apparently have a proper kitchen after all, as they are now hiring and will hopefully open "soon."]

[December 17 update: According to a source, Donahue's is now open in Holbrook.]

Update: 32 Counties Is Opening in the Former Boston Cream Pie Company Space in Holbrook

by Marc Hurwitz

[Ed note: This article was updated on January 15 to reflect new information given, including a name for the place and when it might officially open.]

A brand new watering hole is opening in the southern suburbs of Boston, taking over the space where a shop that focused on a popular regional food item had been.

According to a source, a new bar appears to have soft-opened in Holbrook, moving into the former Boston Cream Pie Company space on S Franklin Street. It looks like the drinking spot may have soft-opened on Friday, though it does not appear to have a name (no sign is up for the place) and it is apparently not serving any food at this point in time.

Boston Cream Pie Company first opened in Holbrook in the summer of 2017 only to close a year later, with the business originally selling the Boston Cream Pies (along with other pies) from tricycles stationed in Boston.

The address for this new bar in Holbrook is 783 S Franklin Street, Holbrook, MA, 02343.

[January 16 update: A message sent to us indicates that the new bar in Holbrook is called 32 Counties and that it plans to officially open over the next few weeks, as the opening last week was indeed just a private soft opening.]

Halfway Cafe in Holbrook to Become Lucky Lou Lou's

A location of a local group of family-friendly restaurants is getting a name change, though it will be under the same ownership.

According to an article in Wicked Local Holbrook, the Halfway Cafe on Route 37 in Holbrook is going to become Lucky Lou Lou's, with the people behind the Halfway Cafe continuing to run the new eatery. The article says that the dining spot remains open for the time being, though it will close for two or three weeks at some point when interior and exterior renovations begin. It is not known what kinds of changes--if any--might come to the menu at this point in time, so keep checking back for updates.

In the article, Wicked Local Holbrook asks Halfway Cafe President John Grasso where the name Lucky Lou Lou's comes from, with his response being "You don't want to know."

Crescent Ridge Dairy in Holbrook Has Closed

A pair of dairy bars south of Boston is now down to just one, as one of their locations has closed.

A poster on the Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook page has mentioned that Crescent Ridge Dairy in Holbrook is shuttered after being in business for approximately five years, with a new spot taking over its space. (Very little information can be found on the place that moved in right now, so check back for updates.) A check on the Crescent Ridge website and Facebook page confirms this, as they have taken down all references to the Holbrook shop on the site, and a note on their Facebook page states that the shop is indeed gone. The Sharon location--which is also their headquarters--remains in business.

Crescent Ridge first started out in the 1930s as a dairy company delivering milk and other products to people's doors. Today, in addition to having their ice cream stand in Sharon, they continue to do deliveries to communities in many parts of Eastern and Central Massachusetts.

The address for this now-closed dairy bar in Holbrook was: Crescent Ridge Dairy, 176 S Franklin Street (Route 37), Holbrook, MA, 02343. The website for their Sharon location is at http://www.crescentridge.com/
