Boathouse Bistro Is Moving from The Launch at Hingham Shipyard to the Nantasket Beach Resort in Hull

A South Shore restaurant that is known for its Italian fare and its seafood dishes will be moving to a new space one town away.

According to an article from the Hingham Anchor, the Boathouse Bistro is planning to move from its current home at The Launch at Hingham Shipyard to Nantasket Beach Resort in Hull, taking over the space that had been home to Shoreline Kitchen & Bar. The article mentions that the new space will be much larger, having room for functions, special events, and catering, and it will continue to offer pizza, as the space will include a wood-burning oven. If all goes as planned, the restaurant could open in its new space in early June. (As mentioned in another article, Salty Days is taking over Boathouse Bistro's Hingham space.)

Boathouse Bistro first opened at the Shipyard in 2015.

The new address for Boathouse Bistro will be 45 Hull Shore Drive, Hull, MA, 02045. Its website can be found at https://www.boathousebistrohingham.com/

A restaurant within a seaside resort on the South Shore has shut down.

According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page along with the restaurant's website, Shoreline Kitchen + Bar in Hull shut down over the weekend, with a note on its Facebook page saying the following:

Although we will be able to absorb some of the staff at True North, for others it will be a difficult message to receive just before Christmas. Thanks to everyone who has created such great memories for us and our family. We will still be operating True North for the foreseeable future so please come visit us there.

The C Note in Hull Has Closed

It looks like another local music venue has shut down.

According to members of Mark Skin Radio who sent us messages about it this afternoon, The C Note in Hull's Nantasket Beach area has closed for good, with a Facebook page from one of the people involved with the place confirming this, saying that the Nantasket Avenue spot "has heard its final note thanks to Covid19. It was a struggle to hang on any longer....Thank you all for supporting live music. Keep doing it wherever you go!" (A post from the club itself has now gone up as well, thanking its customers and staff along with musicians who have played at and supported the place over the years.) The music club has been a popular spot for both local and national acts over the years, including all kinds of live music from rock to jazz to blues and more. (The C Note had formerly been called the Sea Note, with an ownership change taking place a bit more than 10 years ago.)

The address for the now-closed C Note was 159 Nantasket Avenue, Hull, MA, 02045.

The Parrot Opens in Hull; Takes Over Former Red Parrot Space

A seaside restaurant and bar on the South Shore that changed ownership several months ago is now partially open as a new spot with a slightly different name.

According to its social media pages, The Parrot has opened in Hull on weekends only for now, taking over the space on Hull Shore Drive across from Nantasket Beach where The Red Parrot had been. As reported earlier, Brian Houlihan (Bia Bistro in Cohasset, Galley Kitchen & Bar in Scituate, The Tinker's Son in Norwell, Trident Galley & Raw Bar in Hingham) is behind the place, which is just open on weekends because its roof deck is still being built. When done, the space is expected to include a dining area with traditional seaside options in the front, a tavern-type space in the back, and a main dining area upstairs that will be more upscale, and the aforementioned roof deck, though if any of the final setup of the space changes, we will post an update here.

The address for The Parrot is 1 Hull Shore Drive, Hull, MA, 02045. Its website will be at http://www.theparrothull.com/

[July 18 update: According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page (and confirmed by the restaurant's Facebook page), the Parrot is now open seven days a week for both lunch and dinner in the downstairs sections only, as the upstairs dining area and the roof deck are still under construction.]

Nantasket Flatts Kitchen and Bar Opens in Hull

The website and Facebook page for the new spot indicate that it offers modern American fare in a casual atmosphere, with the focus being on "apps and handhelds" while also serving full entrees and seasonal seafood specials along with beer, wine, and cocktails.

Based on posts within its Facebook page, Nantasket Flatts has a connection to The Jetty, a restaurant and bar that is located in the Brant Rock section of Marshfield.

The Red Parrot In Hull Being Sold to Local Restaurateur; Changes on the Way

by Marc Hurwitz

A seaside restaurant and bar on the South Shore is going to be changing hands, and with it, updates to both the space and the food and drink offerings.

According to an article in The Patriot Ledger/Wicked Local, The Red Parrot in Hull is in the process of being sold to Brian Houlihan, who owns Bia Bistro in Cohasset, Galley Kitchen & Bar in Scituate, The Tinker's Son in Norwell, and Trident Galley & Raw Bar in Hingham. The post says that Houlihan plans to have the front bar area focus on traditional seaside options including tacos, burgers, and margaritas, while the back will have the feel of a tavern with local beers and cocktails offered, and the main dining area upstairs will be an upscale restaurant with steak and seafood dishes. The sale of The Red Parrot is expected to go through by the end of the year, at which point renovations would take place in the winter with the place reopening in phases by April and into the summer.

It is not yet known what current owners Bea and Richard D'Angelo will be doing next, with the couple telling The Patriot Ledger in an email that "Here we are 26 years later, it's bitter sweet....We are extremely pleased to turn our establishment over to Brian Houlihan, whose excellent reputation speaks for itself."

The address for The Red Parrot is 1 Hull Shore Drive, Hull, MA, 02045. Its website can be found at https://www.theredparrot.com/

[February 22, 2019 update: Wicked Local states that The Red Parrot space is now under construction, with the hope being to open at least the first and third floors by Memorial Day. (The second floor will have a host stand along with overflow seating for the third-floor restaurant.) The article also indicates that the new place might not be called The Red Parrot, as Brian Houlihan says he is thinking of names for the restaurant.]

Hull's Kitchen to Open HK Too in the Old Barefoot Bob's Space at Nantasket Beach

A couple of months ago, we mentioned that a beachside dining and drinking spot that included an outdoor tiki bar had closed. Now we have learned what will be going into the space.

According to a Facebook post, Hull's Kitchen at Nantasket Beach is opening HK Too in what another post says is in the nearby Barefoot Bob's Beach Grill space, with the outdoor patio opening in mid-June and the interior opening sometime in September. The Facebook page says that the new spot will offer food and drink and will have live music every night, while it appears that it will be a seasonal place that may stay open until November or December. It is not yet known what the menu at HK Too will include; the menu at Hull's Kitchen focuses on seafood, tacos, and sandwiches and also has beer, wine, and mixed drinks.

Barefoot Bob's was once featured on Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares and it had also been reviewed by our sister site (Boston's Hidden Restaurants).

The address for the upcoming HK Too is 276 Nantasket Avenue, Hull, MA, 02045.

[June 14 update: A Facebook post from the place indicates that HK Too plans to open on Friday, June 16. (Thanks to a poster on the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page for bringing this to our attention.)]

Barefoot Bob's Beach Grill in Hull Has Closed

It looks like a beachside dining and drinking spot that included an outdoor tiki bar has shut its doors.

A check on the place a few days ago indicated that Barefoot Bob's Beach Grill on Nantasket Beach in Hull was locked up and dark, with a call placed to the Nantasket Avenue restaurant and bar indicating that its phone is out of service. Both Google and Yelp say that it has permanently closed, as well as a poster on a Groupon page (Groupon apparently returned the money to the poster), and its Facebook page is down as well. It is not yet known whether Barefoot Bob's could reopen--or what might be happening to the space--so stay tuned for updates.

Barefoot Bob's was featured on Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares in 2012, and it has also been reviewed by our sister site (Boston's Hidden Restaurants), with the review being found at the link below:

The address for this now-closed restaurant and bar in Hull was: Barefoot Bob's Beach Grill, 276 Nantasket Avenue, Hull, MA, 02045.

LOCAL 02045 to Open in Former Art's Space in Hull

Last week, we reported that a restaurant with some of the best views in the Greater Boston area would not be reopening this spring--and soon after, it was mentioned that a new spot would be moving into the space. Now we have learned a bit more about the dining spot that will be opening there.

According to an email, LOCAL 02045 is going to be opening in Hull in the former Art's space, with the A Street spot including a private lounge and restaurant for marina members on the first floor, a full-service restaurant on the second floor, and a lounge and dining area on the third floor. The email says that the second and third floors will have large decks that overlook the marina and have views of the Boston skyline, while the person heading up the kitchen is Bridget Nee (Legal Seafoods and Mama Mia's in Marshfield), who will be focusing on New England seafood and Italian fare, while local craft beers and cocktails will be available from the bar. It appears that LOCAL 02045 may be opening very soon, but stay tuned for updates on an exact opening date.

Last Monday, it was announced here that De and Art D'Allessandro of Art's could not reach an agreement with the landlord and decided to move on to their "next adventure"; they had previously run the Marshfield landmark Arthur and Pat's, which shut down in the spring of 2015. (The Art's space had also been home to a location of the Sea Dog Brew Pub.)

The address for the upcoming LOCAL 02045 is 2 A Street, Hull, MA, 02045.

[April 13 update: Eater Boston mentions that LOCAL 02045 opens next week.]

[April 18 update: A press release states that LOCAL 02045 opens to the public tomorrow.]

Art's in Hull Will Not Reopen for the Season

A restaurant with some of the best views in the Greater Boston area--and one that was opened by the people behind a now-closed landmark South Shore eatery--appears to be shut down for good.

According to a Facebook post from the place, Art's in Hull will not be reopening for the season, with the note saying that "We could not reach an agreement with the landlord at the location....We decided to go our separate ways and see where life leads us. Stay tuned we will keep you posted about our next adventure.....If anyone has an Art's Restaurant gift certificate the office at the marina will refund you." The A Street dining spot, which opened last spring in the former Sea Dog Brew Pub space, was run by De and Art D'Allessandro, who were the owners of Arthur and Pat's in the Brant Rock section of Marshfield until it shut down in the spring of 2015.

As soon as we find out what might open in the former Art's space--and what De and Art D'Allessandro might do next--we will post an update here.

The address for the now-closed Art's was 2 A Street, Hull, MA, 02045.

[April 4 update: It appears that the former Art's space in Hull might not be empty for long, as a poster on the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants group page mentions that a new spot called LOCAL 02045 will be moving into the spot. Very little is known about the upcoming restaurant at this point in time, which is hoping to open sometime this month according to a Facebook post from the place.]

Rinato Bistro Replaces Bridgeman's in Hull

An upscale South Shore restaurant whose kitchen was once headed by a very familiar name has closed, and a new place with both casual and more formal sections has replaced it.

According to a poster on the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, Rinato Bistro is now open in Hull, taking over the former Bridgeman's space on Nantasket Avenue. Based on its website, the new eatery offers small plates along with Italian, classic American, New American, and seafood options, with the downstairs dining room and bar area being a casual space while the upstairs dining room is more upscale. The Bridgeman's website indicates that it closed its doors on October 23 while Rinato Bistro opened on October 31.

Paul Wahlberg, who currently heads up the burger chain Wahlburgers with celebrity brothers Mark and Donnie, was the executive chef for Bridgeman's until 2010.

Sea Dog Brew Pub in Hull to Close; Arthur and Pat's Owners to Replace It with Art's

A brewpub with some of the best views in the Greater Boston area is saying goodbye to its home, but it could be returning elsewhere--and as mentioned earlier, the owners of a landmark restaurant are taking over the now-empty space.

According to a Facebook post from the place, the Sea Dog Brew Pub will not be reopening for the season on A Street in Hull, with the note saying that "We want to thank our past co-workers, the Town of Hull and the best customers around for an amazing 6 [years]. We are sad to say that we will not be opening at this location this season....However we have a surprise in the works so stay tuned!" A photo that goes with the note simply says "Stay tuned. Coming soon!" and no hints as to where exactly the new location of the restaurant and bar have been given as of yet. Earlier this year, we reported that the people behind the now-closed Arthur and Pat's Restaurant in Marshfield may have purchased the Sea Dog property, and the Arthur and Pat's folks are indeed moving in, based on a number of real estate listings for the neighborhood around A Street, including a listing from condonrealty.com.

The address for the now-closed Sea Dog Pub (and the new restaurant from the Arthur and Pat's owners) is 2 A Street, Hull, MA, 02045.

[April 14 update: A new Facebook post from Arthur and Pat's mentions that the new place from them will be called "Art's," and that it will feature "globally inspired signature dishes, fresh seafood and more." And while the post does not specifically mention the former Sea Dog space, it hints that this is where it will be moving, saying that it is coming to the Sunset Bay Marina, which is where the brewpub had been.]

[April 26 update: According to several people, including sources within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page and posters on the unofficial Pat's Facebook page, Pat's has soft-opened in the former Sea Dog space.]

[May 12 update: A new Facebook post from the place indicates that Pat's in Hull is now officially open, though it is closed on Wednesdays for the time being.]

Arthur and Pat's Restaurant Is Apparently Taking Over the Sea Dog Pub Space in Hull

A now-closed South Shore landmark that was known in part for its breakfasts may be on its way back to a waterfront spot closer to Boston, and it could be taking over the space where a brewpub has been.

According to an article in the Cranberry Country Magazine blog, Arthur and Pat's Restaurant, which had been located in Marshfield, has apparently purchased the Sea Dog Pub space in Hull. A Facebook post from the eatery seems to confirm this, showing a seaside picture from what appears to be the A Street dining spot and saying "Hi everyone. We have missed you. We are locking down a new location. We have so much to tell you about. Can you guess where we will be having our next meal together?" It is not known for sure whether the new spot will continue to be called Arthur and Pat's, nor is it known exactly when it will open (it appears to be on its way in either the spring or the summer); as soon as we find out more, we will post an update here.

[January 22 update: Wicked Local Marshfield states that the people behind Arthur and Pat's do not yet have a name for the upcoming restaurant--so it may not be called Arthur and Pat's after all--and are not revealing the location yet, though the picture posted earlier seems to indicate that it is indeed coming to the Sea Dog space in Hull. (The article also mentions that they aren't sure whether it will be open seasonally or year round.)]

Arthur and Pat's closed in April of 2015 in the Brant Rock section of Marshfield after being in business for nearly 40 years; at the time of the closure, it looked like they were weighing their options, one of which included possibly eyeing a new location for the restaurant (or "a" restaurant).

The Sea Dog Pub, which first opened its doors in Hull in June of 2010, is affiliated with the Sea Dog Brewing Company, which is part of the Shipyard Brewing Company in Maine. (The dining and drinking spot closed for the season at the end of October.)

The address for the Sea Dog Pub (and, apparently, the new restaurant from the people behind Arthur and Pat's) is 2 A Street, Hull, MA, 02045.

Thanks to @djradarjs11 for initially bringing this to our attention.

A South Shore restaurant and bar with some of the best views in the Boston area has closed its doors once again, and its future appears to be in doubt.

According to a post on its Facebook page, the Beachfire Restaurant and Bar at the southern tip of Nantasket Beach in Hull has shuttered for the season, with the note saying that "We have simply run into too many unfair and unjust roadblocks by certain factions in the town." The post goes on to say that "While we would love to say that we will return next summer it is something that we can not say for certain."

The Beachfire first opened in the middle of 2010 (replacing the Ocean Club), closing abruptly toward the end of 2011 and going up on the market for awhile before reopening in the spring of 2012.

Saporito's Florence Club Cafe in Hull Is Closing

A landmark South Shore restaurant that has been in business for nearly 25 years is going to be closing its doors.

A veteran poster on the Chowhound site states (via The Hull Times) that Saporito's Florence Club Cafe in Hull is shuttering, with the reason for their closing being "the desire to spend more time with family." The Rockland Circle dining spot, which first opened in the late 1980s, has been known for its Northern Italian fare, with their menu including such items as beef carpaccio, housemade cannelloni filled with shrimp, dry-rubbed pork tenderloin, roasted duck breast, grilled ribeye, almond-coated mahi-mahi, and Tuscan-spiced chicken.

Saporito's has received high marks from critics and diners alike over the years, with Zagat currently giving the restaurant a food score of 28 (which is about as high a score as you will see from them).

[October 9 update: The Boston Globe reports that Saporito's Florence Club Cafe is now officially closed.]

A now-closed seafood shack in Hull that was part of a small group of Maine-based eateries has been replaced by a new dining spot.

The new spot features a variety of seafood and non-seafood dishes, including clam chowder, lobster rolls, tuna melts, hot dogs, burgers, and grilled ruebens.

Locations of Linda Bean's remain open in Freeport (two spots), Port Clyde (called the Dip Net), and South Portland, ME, as well as one outlet in Delray Beach, FL.

Based on posts on the Yelp site, it appears that Marvel's Lunch Box opened late this spring.
