Isaac's Restaurant in Plymouth Has Closed

A South Shore mainstay that was known for its ocean views and casual upscale atmosphere has shut down permanently.

According to several sources, including a tweet from @JeremyKrantz along with several members of the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, Isaac's Restaurant in Plymouth is no longer in business, with a Taunton Daily Gazette article indicating that its closure was the result of both a lease issue and the COVID-19 pandemic. The post mentions that because the Water Street dining spot resided in a second-floor space, outdoor dining was not a viable option, while indoor dining at a reduced capacity was also unsustainable, with owner Bob Infusino saying that "... I can't face both a high rent and pandemic at the same time."

Issac's, which first opened more than 30 years ago, featured classic American fare and seafood dishes along with beer, wine and cocktails, with the restaurant being popular with both locals and tourists (the dining spot was located just north of Plymouth Rock).

The address for Isaac's Restaurant was 114 Water Street, Plymouth, MA, 02360.

Sullivan's at Castle Island in South Boston Opens, But with Restrictions

One of the city's best-known seaside dining spots is open once again, though its setup is much different now as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.

According to its Facebook page, Sullivan's at Castle Island in South Boston has reopened, but a number of changes have come to the place. One of the biggest issues is that the road to the eatery and parking lot are both closed, which means that Sullivan's can only be accessed by foot; in addition, both customers and workers are required to wear face masks, while barriers have been installed at the counters--and there is a designated outside pickup area for orders. Customers are able to order in three ways--online, by phone, or walk-in--with the latter being limited in part because of social distancing.

Sullivan's, which has been in business for nearly 70 years, temporarily closed down around the end of March after doing doing curbside pickup and delivery for a few weeks around the early part of the coronavirus outbreak.

photo of food at Sullivan's in South Boston, MA.
One of Boston's best-known seaside dining spots has shut down for the time being due to the coronavirus crisis, and it won't reopen until next month at the very earliest.

According to a Facebook post from the restaurant, Sullivan's at Castle Island in South Boston is now closed, with the note saying that they will remain shuttered through at least the first week of May. Sullivan's, which had been doing curbside pickup and delivery over the past few weeks, says that "when the time is right, we will be here to provide the comfort beach food that our family has provided to your family for close to 70 years."

Sullivan's is a popular seasonal snack shack that is known for such options as hot dogs, burgers, fried clams, chicken sandwiches, lobster rolls, and onion rings.

According to a source (Daphna Edgar), ReelHouse Oyster Bar is opening at Fan Pier in Boston's Seaport District, moving into the space under the pavilion where Frank Anthony's Marina Cafe had been. Davio's Northern Italian Steakhouse Is Opening in Boston's Seaport District

It looks like a local group of upscale Italian steakhouses is expanding to the Boston waterfront.

According to a licensing board hearing page within the city's website, a new restaurant whose parent company is 51 Liberty Drive, LLC is planning to open at Fan Pier in the Seaport District, and Steve DiFillippo of  Davio's Northern Italian Steakhouse is listed as the manager. A Google search shows a PressReader.com entry from the Boston Herald that seems to confirm that this would indeed be a new location of Davio's. The hearing is expected to take place on May 15, so more information should be known by later next week.

Davio's traces its roots back to 1985, when DiFillippo purchased a restaurant with that name on Newbury Street in Boston's Back Bay. Today, the group of dining spots is known for its steaks, seafood, pasta dishes, and more, with locations being found in Park Square, Braintree, Chestnut Hill, Foxboro, and Lynnfield, along with Manhattan, Philadelphia, King of Prussia, PA, Atlanta, and Irvine, CA.

The website for Davio's Northern Italian Steakhouse can be found at http://davios.com/

[June 4 update: The Boston Globe states that the new location of Davio's at Fan Pier will have 15,000 square feet of space, including a bar, several private dining areas, and a function space that is slated to be called the Athanas Room as a nod to the owner of the former Anthony's Pier 4, a landmark waterfront restaurant that closed in 2013. If all goes as planned, Davio's could be opening in the late fall.]

[November 12 update: Based on its Twitter page, the new location of Davio's in the Seaport District will be opening over the next couple of weeks, with a VIP grand opening party slated for Saturday, November 23, while it is also taking reservations for Thanksgiving.]

Atlantica and the Olde Salt House Are Opening in Cohasset This Spring

by Marc Hurwitz

A couple of popular seaside spots on the South Shore will be returning later this spring.

According to an article in the Norwell Mariner, Atlantica and the Olde Salt House are coming back to Cohasset, both of which changed ownership over the past few months along with the Cohasset Harbor Inn. The post indicates that both Border Street spots are currently going through renovations, while the former Brisa space within the Cohasset Harbor Inn is now a new restaurant called The Cove. (The new owners also took over the Red Lion Inn on Main Street.)

Atlantica had once been home to Hugo's, an iconic restaurant whose name appeared to be coming back to the space back in 2016, though plans for the name change apparently fell through.

The address for the complex that includes Atlantica, the Olde Salt House, the Cohasset Harbor Inn, and The Cove, can be found at http://cohassetharborresort.com/

[June 6 update: Wicked Local states that Atlantica and the Olde Salt House are now open with brand new menus, and that the former has a new executive chef (Mark Cina, who used to work at the now-cloed Locke-Ober in Boston) while the latter has a new chef de cuisine (Arthur D'Allessandro of the now-closed Arthur and Pat's in Marshfield).]

A Floating Restaurant May Be Coming to the Charlestown Navy Yard

by Marc Hurwitz

Boston may soon be getting a new restaurant that would literally be located on the water.

According to an article from boston.com, the Boston Planning &amp Development Agency and Mayor Marty Walsh have approved of plans to have a temporary floating restaurant set up within a tall ship at the Charlestown Navy Yard. The post mentions that the Navy Yard Hospitality Group would operate the dining spot, which would open this summer and be part of Imagine Boston 2030, a citywide initiative that, for Charlestown, would include free outdoor programming from the USS Constitution Museum, a temporary gathering space for the general public, and the floating restaurant.

The Navy Yard Hospitality Group is behind a few local restaurants, including Pier 6 in Charlestown, ReelHouse in East Boston (and a second location coming to Quincy),  and Mija at Faneuil Hall.

[March 22 update: The Charlestown Patriot-Bridge states that the floating restaurant would be set up on a 245-foot-long ship that would be located at Drydock #2, which is the strip of water near where 1st Avenue meets 5th Street and 6th Street (just north of the USS Constitution).]

[June 19 update: The floating restaurant could be one step closer to opening by next week, as a licensing board hearing page for June 26 shows an amended description of the licensed business (which includes Pier 6) as including the tall ship, which would have a dining room, bar, lounge, and kitchen on the main deck while the upper deck would have three more bars with dining areas.]

[July 5 update: A new article from The Charlestown Patriot-Bridge mentions that a new proposal has been made that would set up the floating restaurant next to Pier 6 rather than at Drydock #2.]
