Located along the town common in this quaint community near the eastern edge of the Green Mountain State, Alice's Restaurant is a truly charming spot that resides on the first floor of an old Victorian house. The restaurant has three dining areas, including an enclosed wraparound porch, and the menu mostly features traditional American fare at very cheap prices. As of the fall of 2009, Alice's is only open for breakfast and lunch, but they will eventually be offering dinner as well. The Marathon Restaurant at North Pond Opens in Hopkinton
A dining spot in Hopkinton that we had mentioned awhile back is now open for business. The Marathon Restaurant at North Pond opened on Monday, September 28, moving into the spot on Hayward Street where Caffe Italiano used to be before closing earlier this year. The restaurant looks to feature mostly American fare and comfort food.
Items on the dinner menu at The Marathon Restaurant at North Pond include mussels, crab cakes, French onion soup, a roasted beet and goat cheese salad, NY sirloin, turkey tips, macaroni and cheese, grilled salmon, and chicken pot pie. Their lunch menu and bar menu both include pizza and a variety of sandwiches. They also have a brunch menu that includes French toast, pancakes, omelets, and more. (A children's menu is also available at the restaurant.)
Hours for The Marathon Restaurant at North Pond are 11:30 AM to 10:00 PM Monday to Wednesday, 11:30 AM to 11:00 PM on Thursdays, 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM on Fridays and Saturdays, and 12:00 AM to 10:00 PM on Sundays.

Daniela's Cantina Moves to Nagog Park in Acton
A Mexican restaurant that was formerly located a short distance north of South Acton has moved to the other side of Acton, just east of the Littleton line. The restaurant--Daniela's Cantina--recently made the move from Main Street (Route 27) to Nagog Park, a shopping center/office park on Routes 2A and 119.
Daniela's features a mix of traditional Mexican and Mexican-American dishes, including beef taquitos, chili con queso, black bean soup, fish tacos, steak fajitas, chili verde burritos, enchiladas poblano, chicken tamales, seafood chimichangas, vegetarian quesadillas, and stuffed chile peppers. The restaurant also has sandwiches, and offers a children's menu.

Summer Shack Opening in Hingham
[November 18 Update] Hingham is home to a new location of a popular seafood restaurant that is owned by an award-winning chef. According to their Facebook page, Jasper White is opening a new Summer Shack in the Derby Street Shoppes on Wednesday, November 18. The dining spot, which has a capacity of nearly 200, also includes a bar and a raw bar, as well as a retail fish market. The new Summer Shack is taking over the spot in the Derby Street Shoppes where Talbots used to be.
The original Summer Shack is located at 149 Alewife Brook Parkway in Cambridge (near the Alewife T stop and across from the Fresh Pond Mall), while the other two locations are at 50 Dalton Street in the Back Bay of Boston (across from the Hynes Auditorium) and the Mohegan Sun casino in Connecticut.

Chili Con-Carnival Cook-Off at the Grog in Newburyport, October 17, 2009
A chili cook-off is being held a week from Saturday at a popular restaurant in Newburyport. The Grog, which is located in the center of this historic coastal community north of Boston, is hosting the Chili Con-Carnival Cook-Off on October 17 from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM under a tent in their parking lot. The event benefits three food pantries: The Pettengill House in Salisbury, Community Services of Newburyport, and Our Neighbor's Table in Amesbury.
Admission to the Chili Con-Carnival Cook-Off is $10 (with children under 12 getting in for free).
The Grog is located at 13 Middle Street, which is less than a block east of State Street (the main road through the downtown area), and about two blocks south of the water.

Basta Pasta Opens a New Location in North Quincy
An Italian restaurant in the Cambridgeport section of Cambridge has opened a second location, this one being south of Boston. Basta Pasta Enoteca is now open on Hancock Street in North Quincy, moving into the spot where Tullio's Restaurant used to be. The new restaurant is within walking distance of the North Quincy T stop and, unlike the original, has a good-sized parking lot with free parking.
The menu at the new Basta Pasta includes such Italian fare as arancini, sausage and fennel, a Caprese salad, wood oven-baked pizza, a prosciutto panini, pasta bolognese, gorgonzola and pear risotto, and veal picatta. Some other dishes of note include brick chicken, red wine braised lamb shank, and a grilled salmon fillet.
