Mrs. Jones in Dorchester's Lower Mills Could Reopen If a Buyer Is Found

We recently reported that a Southern-style soul food eatery in Dorchester had shut its doors. Now we have learned that it could be reopening, though it depends on whether a buyer can be found for it.

The Dorchester Reporter states that the now-closed Mrs. Jones on Dorchester Avenue in Lower Mills could return under new management, but it needs someone to purchase the place. The article says that the owner of the dining spot had to close the place due to health issues, but has asked the landlord to act as a broker to find someone to buy it. At least 20 prospective owners have been interviewed so far, according to the Reporter, with the plan ultimately being to keep it as a soul food spot.

Mrs. Jones had been featured on our sister site (Boston's Hidden Restaurants) as a restaurant to go to for such items as corn bread, macaroni and cheese, deep-fried turkey, brisket, pork chops, and more. The review can be found below:

http://www.hiddenboston.com/MrsJones.html

The address for Mrs. Jones is 2255 Dorchester Avenue, Dorchester, MA, 02124.

[Ed Note: This article was updated on August 4 to reflect confirmation that the restaurant has indeed shut its doors.]

It looks like a Southern-style soul food eatery in Dorchester has closed.

Several checks on the restaurant over the past few weeks indicate that Mrs. Jones on Dorchester Avenue in Lower Mills is shuttered, with several sources in the area saying that it has indeed been dark and locked up over recent days. A phone call placed to the dining spot yesterday seems to indicate that this is likely a permanent closure, as their number is now disconnected.

A well-known restaurant in the Davis Square section of Somerville that features BBQ and Southern-style fare is getting ready to take their food on the road.

The Chester Street eatery, which features such items as pulled pork, macaroni and cheese, hush puppies, ribs, brisket, and catfish, could be on the road as early as next week, according to The Boston Globe, though we are still trying to find out if they will be at one particular spot or moving around to a number of places (the Boston Redevelopment Authority article mentions that there will be 15 permanent locations for food trucks within the Boston city limits).

[July 15 update: An email sent to us from the City of Boston indicates that for the time being, the Redbones food truck will be stationed at a few different spots in the Back Bay of Boston.
