Villa Mexico in Downtown Boston Is Facing Closure

A beloved Mexican restaurant in the heart of Boston is facing an uncertain future.

According to a Facebook post from the business, Villa Mexico on Water Street is being asked to close down and leave its space, with the post saying the following:

Dear friends, If you get our newsletter, you would have read that we were asked to close and vacate by today (3/30) due to owed rent. We got this news on an email on Thursday(3/26) morning. Our landlord has every legal right to do this. Since getting the email we mobilized any and all community support to ask him to let us finish the year upon payment. As of now, we were asked to clear a common area storage room and given until April 9 to close. We are still going to try to get longer. Why? For these reasons: -try to sell equipment -use that money to pay our team at least 2 week's wages since they're losing their jobs -donate existing supplies and food -close with dignity We know we owe rent. We want to pay it. We've been here 10 years, through thick and thin, and we believe (and hope) we can get this....We promise that as soon as we have more news we will update you on email and social media. In the meantime, please come eat. If you have a business, please come buy equipment. We're not ok, but right now we can't give up and cry. Our team needs us. Thank you

Villa Mexico had once been located within a gas station on Cambridge Street in Beacon Hill until closing in 2013; the dining spot reopened in its current space three years later. The restaurant has received much praise over the years, including "best of" awards from such publications as Boston Magazine and Time Out.

The address for Villa Mexico is 121 Water Street, Boston, MA, 02109. Its website is at https://www.villamexicocafe.us/

Sysco Announces Plan to Buy Restaurant Depot

The country's top food distributor is planning to purchase a foodservice supplier that is used by independent restaurants--and which has several locations in the Greater Boston area.

According to an article from CNBC, Sysco has struck a deal to buy Restaurant Depot for $29 billion (including debt), with Sysco CEO Kevin Hourican saying "Sysco and Jetro Restaurant Depot will enhance value for small independent restaurants and the consumers they serve by expanding access to more affordable, fresh food products and delivering more choice and convenience." Restaurant Depot, whose wholesale cash‑and‑carry model allows customers to pay upfront for food, drink, and other products, has warehouse outlets locally in Andover, Avon, Everett, Milford, and Needham.

It appears that if the deal is approved by regulators, Restaurant Depot would continue to operate independently, according to Hoodline.

Peach Farm in Boston's Chinatown to Undergo an Ownership Change

It looks like one of Boston's best-known Chinese restaurants will soon be under new ownership.

According to a Facebook post from the business, the current owners of Peach Farm in Chinatown are saying farewell, with the post saying the following:

It's been a great run of 31 years. All good things have come to an end, and this will most likely be the last month of us running Peach Farm Restaurant. We want to send a huge thank you for those who supported us through the ups and downs, especially through the crucial time during COVID. We also want to thank all the people that have worked for us throughout all the years. This is a bittersweet moment for us, but it's for the best.  Let's make the last week or two left special. Hope to see all the familiar faces beforehand. Thank you again for the unconditional support that you have for us.

There has been chatter on social media platforms that Peach Farm is closing, but Adam Gaffin from Universal Hub shared with us an earlier voting hearing agenda page mentioning that Peach Farm, Inc. petitioned to transfer the license to Peach Farm Boston, LLC, keeping the restaurant name the same while the new manager listed is Washan Ching (Adam tells us that the Licensing Board did approve the sale on March 5).

Peach Farm has received countless accolades over the years, including getting a Best of Boston award from Boston Magazine in 2023 and a Legacy Business Award from Mayor Wu and the City of Boston in 2025.

New Restaurant from A Street Hospitality to Open in the Former Bristol Lounge Space Within the Four Seasons Hotel in Boston

A new dining spot is on its way to an iconic Boston space, and a local restaurant group is behind it.

According to an article from Boston Magazine, A Street Hospitality (Porto, La Padrona, Trade, Saloniki, the Venetian) is planning to open a restaurant in the old Bristol Lounge space in the Four Seasons Hotel on Boylston Street in the Back Bay, with Jody Adams, Eric Papachristos, and Jon Mendez planning to bring such classic options as Dover sole, prime rib, lobster bisque, local oysters, caviar and blini, and beef tartare to the as-of-yet unnamed spot. It is not yet known when the place might open (plans are in their early stages), but when it does, it will have dinner service daily along with a weekend brunch.

The Bristol Lounge, which closed during the pandemic, was known in part for its Bristol burger, which was considered one of Boston's best.

Melty in Dedham Has Closed

The sole Boston-area location of a small group of dining spots with roots out west has shut down.

Based on a check on the place this week, Melty in Dedham is no longer in business, with a message from @IrishEyesPhoto1 saying that it closed on March 8. A Facebook post from the Washington Street spot gives a bit more information, saying the following:

After much consideration, we've made the difficult decision to close Melty Dedham....Opening our doors in September 2024 was truly a dream come true. From day one, our goal was simple — to serve great food with warmth and create a place where people left feeling a little better than when they walked in. We are so proud of what we built with this community....Like many restaurants navigating a challenging environment, we faced hurdles that ultimately made it impossible to continue. This was not an easy decision, and we truly gave it everything we had....Thank you, Dedham, for welcoming us and supporting us. We are deeply grateful.

The Dedham location of Melty (whose company headquarters are in Utah) was known for its grilled cheese sandwiches along with its melts which included such options as pulled pork, bacon, corned beef, turkey, chicken, ham, ground beef, and more.

The address for the now-closed Melty in Dedham was 290 Washington Street, Dedham, MA, 02026. The website for the company is at https://www.lovemelty.com/

Nine Winters Bakery in Cambridge Is Closing

A Korean-American bakery in Cambridge is closing after being in the space for less than a year.

According to multiple sources, Nine Winters Bakery in West Cambridge is shutting down after business hours on March 29, with an Instagram post from the Concord Avenue shop saying the following:

Life has taken a turn I never expected! Things have changed: it's time to for me to shift and remember that I created Nine Winters with my girls. To be frank, I miss them and have chosen to build this shop as they've grown up. I love New England, our community, and building a space that prioritizes Asian-American and adoptee voices. I also love being a parent. I'm choosing my family, as it was when we started. It's fitting that this is the full cycle and all of the reasons for everything are the same as it has been....Thank you all for your support and love along the way! I am so, so grateful for everyone I've crossed paths with, and the opportunity to share our story with you all has been incredible.

Nine Winters first opened in its West Cambridge location last July, with the business initially starting as as a pop-up at Honeycomb Ice Cream in Cambridge and then at Bow Market in Somerville.

The address for Nine Winters Bakery is 292 Concord Avenue, Cambridge, MA, 02138. The website for the business is at https://www.ninewinters.com/
