TKK Fried Chicken/Kung Fu Tea Is Opening at Hong Kong Supermarket/Super 88 Food Court in Allston

A decades-old Taiwanese chicken chain that recently teamed up with a bubble tea chain to open its first Boston-area location is apparently planning to team up on a second location within the city itself.

According to a source (Sarah Wu), TKK Fried Chicken is opening within the Hong Kong Supermarket/Super 88 food court in Allston, with a check on the website for the chain indicating that it will be pairing up with a location of Kung Fu Tea; another source tells us that an outlet of Kung Fu Tea already exists in the food court, so we are trying to find out if that spot is moving to the TKK space or if they will share the existing Kung Fu Tea space.

Once it opens, TKK Fried Chicken/Kung Fu Tea will join another combination space in Quincy's Wollaston neighborhood, while several other Kung Fu Teas can be found in and around Boston. (Based on the TKK site, it looks like a third TKK Fried Chicken/Kung Fu Tea collaboration will be coming to Nashua, NH, as well.)

TKK Fried Chicken, which started out in Taiwan in 1974, features such items as fried chicken, wings, tenders, and chicken sandwiches. (Kung Fu Tea offers such items as classic tea, milk tea, slush, punch, and yogurt.) The website for TKK is at https://www.tkkusa.com/ while the website for Kung Fu Tea is at https://www.kungfutea.com/

[October 16, 2020 update: According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, TKK is now open in Allston, and it appears that Kung Fu Tea is indeed a part of the space.]

by Marc Hurwitz

It looks like a small group of Taiwanese restaurants known in part for their crispy fried chicken will be opening a second location in the Boston area.

According to a Twitter post from @QuincyTweets, Cheers Cut is opening on Billings Road, with a tweet from @ahGwenYee saying that it is moving into a space that had been home to an insurance company. Based on the menu at the outlet in Allston that opened last summer, the new location could offer such items as crispy chicken, chicken nuggets, fried shrimp, sauteed calamari, fried diced beef, and more.

In addition to its Allston and upcoming North Quincy locations, Cheers Cut also has shops in New York and Florida.

The address for Cheers Cut in North Quincy will be 19 Billings Road, Quincy, MA, 02171.

Both MuLan and Beauty's Pizza were gutted in a two-alarm blaze in December of 2014, with the latter also planning to reopen again soon as well, according to its website. Dumpling Palace Opens in Boston's Back Bay

A new restaurant has come to the Back Bay of Boston, and it appears to be connected to a highly-rated eatery in Boston's Chinatown neighborhood.

According to a Twitter post from @TheDrewStarr along with posts on the Chowhound site, Dumpling Palace is now open on Mass. Ave., taking over the space where Nan Ling had been. Both posts seem to indicate that the new dining spot is affiliated with Dumpling Cafe, a Chinese and Taiwanese place on Washington Street that offers a variety of dumplings and steamed buns along with an extensive list of other entrees, and it appears that Dumpling Palace has a long and varied menu as well.

The Dumpling Cafe has received excellent reviews since opening five years ago, with Boston Magazine awarding it best spot for dumplings back in 2013.

The address for this new eatery in the Back Bay is: Dumpling Palace, 179 Massachusetts Avenue, Boston, MA, 02115.

Wisteria in Allston Is Closed

It looks like a Taiwanese restaurant in the Hong Kong Market (formerly Super 88) in Allston has closed, and the people behind the place apparently cannot be found.

According to posters on Chowhound, Wisteria appears to be shut down, and an inspection result of the place on the City of Boston website shows a variety of violations, one of which is absence of an owner or anyone else in charge of the restaurant. Out of the ten violations, six were considered critical, according to the report. (Thanks to one of the Chowhound posters for putting up this link.)

In recent times, there had been three locations of Wisteria in the Boston area, with the Back Bay and East Cambridge restaurants now being closed as well.
