It looks like a ramen spot southwest of Boston has shut down.

According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, Menya Jiro at Legacy Place in Dedham is no longer in operation, with a check on the Legacy Place website seeming to confirm this as it has removed the restaurant from the site. La Esquina del Sabor Replaces Antique Table in Winthrop

A location of a small group of Italian restaurants on the North Shore has closed, and a Colombian dining spot has expanded into its space.

According to multiple sources, Antique Table in Winthrop is no longer in operation, and there is now a sign up for La Esquina del Sabor, which has taken over the Crest Avenue space. It appears that locations of Antique Table in Lynn and Salem remain in operation, while the upcoming location of La Esquina del Sabor appears to be an expansion rather than a move from its home on Unity Avenue in Revere.

The address for the new La Esquina del Sabor (and now-closed Antique Table) in Winthrop is 19 Crest Avenue, Winthrop, MA, 02152.

Uno Mas Taco & Tequila Bar Opens in the Former Rivershed Space in Weymouth Landing

Earlier this year, it was reported that a location of a pair of Southern-style restaurants had closed and the people behind a nearby dining spot were hoping to open a new restaurant in its space. Now we have learned that this has indeed happened, though with a different name than originally thought.

A check on the space last weekend confirms what a source told us, that Uno Mas Taco & Tequila Bar is now open in Weymouth Landing, moving into the former Rivershed space on Commercial Street. An earlier article here had mentioned that the people behind Liberty Tavern in Quincy were looking to open a spot tentatively called Tres Burros there, though the name changed to Uno Mas at some point in the process (What Now Boston first wrote about it being called Uno Mas last month).

Rivershed first opened in Weymouth Landing in 2020, joining its original location in Scituate which remains in operation.

The address for Uno Mas Taco & Tequila Bar in Weymouth Landing is 35 Commercial Street, Braintree, MA, 02184. Its website can be found at https://www.unomasbraintree.com/

According to an Instagram post, Thompson House Eatery in Jackson, NH, is no longer in business, with the note from owners Kate and Jeffrey Fournier saying the following:

It is with great sadness that we must share that Thompson House Eatery will not be reopening as planned on November 29th. We have made the difficult decision to permanently close our doors and list our property for sale. Please offer our family and team the grace of time and space as we shutter our business and plan for our futures....With full hearts and teary eyes, thank you.

Thompson House Eatery, whose property included a farmhouse that dates back to the 1700s, was open for more than 35 years until being purchased by Kate and Jeffrey in the latter part of 2016; Jeffrey had previously been behind 51 Lincoln and Waban Kitchen, both of which were located in Newton where the couple lived until moving to Jackson when they reopened Thompson House Eatery.

The address for the now-closed Thompson House Eatery was 193 Main Street, Jackson, NH, 03846.

Last week it was reported that a restaurant chain that got its start in the Boston area had closed its sole remaining location inside Route 128, and now it looks like its only location inside Route 495 has shuttered as well.

According to a Google search, Boston Market in Brockton has permanently closed, with a call placed to the Belmont Street outlet indicating that the phones are no longer in service, while a check on the Boston Market website indicates that the entire website is actually down. This apparent closure comes on the heels of the Quincy location being locked up and dark on Friday, while a source told us that the Framingham outlet closed at some point as well.

The address for the now-closed Boston Market in Brockton was 756 Belmont Street, Brockton, MA, 02301.

Row 34 to Open in Boston's Kenmore Square

A local group of restaurants known for their seafood will be opening their fifth location--and their second within the city of Boston.

According to an article from The Boston Globe, Row 34 is planning to open in Kenmore Square, moving into a space next to the Hotel Commonwealth (Time Out confirms that it will be in the former Island Creek Oyster Bar/Pescador space) and being what co-owners Jeremy Sewall and Shore Gregory say will be the "next generation" of the dining spot. The post mentions that the 170-seat restaurant will offer such favorites as fish and chips and lobster rolls along with some new dishes, and it will have dinner service nightly along with weekend lunch service.

The new location of Row 34, which is hoping to open next summer, will join others in Boston's Fort Point, Cambridge's Kendall Square, Burlington, and Portsmouth, NH. (The website for all locations is at https://www.row34.com/)

Boston Market in Quincy Has Closed

A restaurant chain that got its start in the Boston area has all but disappeared from the local landscape, as what appears to be its last location inside Route 128 has shut down.

According to a source, Boston Market in Quincy is no longer in operation, with a check on the website for the company seeming to confirm this as the Granite Street restaurant is no longer listed. With the closing of the Quincy location, there are apparently no more Boston Markets within Route 128, while one can still be found inside Route 495 (in Brockton).

A popular Allston spot known for its grilled cheese sandwiches and burgers is getting ready to shut down.

According to a Facebook post from the place via a source (Geoff Wong), Roxy's Grilled Cheese on Cambridge Street is going to be closing, with the post saying the following:

Hey Allston! After ten crazy years, it's time for us to say goodbye to our Allston spot. We're closing our doors here on Sunday, November 24th, and we just want to say THANK YOU for all the cheesy memories. It's been an absolute honor to be part of this community. But hey-this isn't really goodbye. We're still slinging grilled cheese and good times two miles away at Roxy's and Roxy's Arcade - 292 Mass Ave. Central Sq, Cambridge. Come hang with us there! We can't wait to welcome you and keep the good vibes rolling. So, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you, Allston. Let's keep the party going in Central Square!

The Allston location of Roxy's first opened in 2014, though it started out as a food truck business called Roxy's Gourmet Grilled Cheese in 2011; in addition to the Allston and Central Square locations, there had also been outlets in the Innovation and Design Building on the Boston waterfront and in Lynnfield.

Burrito Loco Opens in Allston

A brand new Mexican restaurant has come to Boston, and it traces its roots to a popular Mexican and Salvadoran eatery in Somerville.

According to a source (Sarah Wu), Burrito Loco is now open in Allston, with the address indicating that it has taken over the space that had been home to Bubbakoo's Burritos. The website for the new dining spot says the following:

In the early 1980s, Luis and Blanca Morales left their homeland with a dream of building a better life in America....In the early 1990s, they opened Taco Loco, a small taqueria that quickly became a local favorite for its vibrant, mouth-watering dishes. What began as a modest family venture soon grew into one of Boston’s best Mexican Salvadoran restaurants....Today, the Morales Group—a team of four brothers— continues to carry forward the legacy of Luis and Blanca. With the same commitment to quality and authenticity, they have expanded their culinary vision with Burrito Loco.

In addition to burritos, the new restaurant offers nachos, tacos, quesadillas, tostadas, chimichangas, and more.

Standard Italian Is Opening at the Fenway Center Complex in Boston

A bit more than a year after one of Boston's best-known restaurants was reborn in a new space (and joined by a cocktail bar), the team behind it is opening a new concept across the way.

According to a posting within the jobs section of the bostonchefs.com site, Garrett Harker and ES Hospitality are planning to open Standard Italian at the Fenway Center just outside of Kenmore Square, with the post saying the following:

Last October marked the return of Eastern Standard Kitchen and Drinks, quickly followed by the introduction of the new craft cocktail bar, Equal Measure, right next door. Beginning next month, the group behind Eastern Standard and Equal Measure plans to welcome a new Italian concept, Standard Italian, to the family. Garrett is joined by Beverage Director Jackson Cannon and Culinary Director Brian Rae in the construction and operation of this new concept. Located directly across the plaza from Eastern Standard and Equal Measure, Standard Italian promises to bring a warm, hip energy to the Fenway neighborhood. Think satisfying bowls of housemade pasta and plentiful martinis!

Based on the description and the address, it appears that Standard Italian is opening in the space that had been home to All That Fish + Oyster, another ES Hospitality concept that debuted in September of 2023 only to shutter a few months later.

The address for Standard Italian is 771 Beacon Street, Boston, MA, 02215. Its website can be found at https://standarditalian.com/

Ground Round Is Returning to Massachusetts with a Location on the Way to Shrewsbury

A family-friendly chain of restaurants that got its start locally more than 50 years ago only to disappear from the local landscape may be returning to the region.

As first mentioned in the ChewOnThis Facebook group page, the Ground Round may be opening in Shrewsbury, taking over the space on Route 140 that had been home to Bauhinia Restaurant until it closed a few days ago. The Community Advocate states that Joseph Shea is behind the proposed dining spot, purchasing the rights and trademarks to the company name, and it will be an "official" Ground Round that will possibly open by January 1 if all goes well.

The Ground Round was first established in Massachusetts in the late 1960s, opening a number of locations in the Greater Boston area and elsewhere; currently, there are only four locations remaining in business in Ohio and North Dakota.

The address for the upcoming Ground Round in Shrewsbury is 271 Grafton Street (Route 140), Shrewsbury, MA, 01545.
