Madeleine's Candy Shop Is Opening in Boston's South End

A brand new candy shop is getting ready to open in Boston.

According to its website, Madeleine's Candy Shop is slated to open in the South End on Saturday, February 1, moving into a space on Clarendon Street near the Appleton Street intersection. A note on its site says the following about how the idea for the store came to be:

Simply put, Madeleine's Candy Shop was concocted out of sugar cravings. After working her day job in clinical research, Founder & Candy Enthusiast—Madeleine Brason—often struggled to satisfy her late night sweet tooth, (sometimes settling for a sad handful of chocolate chips…). And so, powered by caffeine and "girl math," she threw caution to the wind and ditched her Health Science degrees for a life of candies & chocolates. A quarter-life-crisis never tasted so sweet.

Madeleine's will be offering domestic and global treats in bulk and pre-packaged, and it will also sell gluten-friendly and low-glycemic options.

The address for Madeleine's Candy Shop is 47 Clarendon Street, Boston, MA, 02116. Its website can be found at https://www.madeleinescandyshop.com/

Krispy Krunchy Chicken to Open in the North Cambridge/Alewife Area, Will Apparently Be Selling Prince Pizza

A chain of chicken places typically found in gas stations and convenience stores will be opening a standalone shop in Cambridge, and it looks like it will be selling pizza from a popular North Shore restaurant as well.

Both sources say that the upcoming eatery will sell "take 'n bake" pizza from Prince Pizzeria in Saugus, while Cambridge Day states that Krispy Krunchy will also offer such items as fried chicken, chicken sandwiches, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, and honey biscuits.

Krispy Krunchy Chicken was established in Louisiana in 1989, while Prince Pizzeria (whose "take 'n bake" pizza can be found in a number of stores locally) dates back to 1961.

The address for the upcoming Krispy Krunchy Chicken is 336 Rindge Avenue, Cambridge, MA, 02140. The website for the business is at https://www.krispykrunchy.com/

The Hollows to Open in the Former Rudy's Cafe Space in Somerville's Teele Square

This past weekend, a decades-old Tex-Mex restaurant in Somerville closed its doors forever, and now we have learned that a new spot is moving into the space.

According to an article in The Boston Globe, The Hollows is planning to open in the former Rudy's Cafe space in Teele Square, with Charlie Redd of Dragon Pizza in Davis Square and business partners Doug Sherman and Bridget Zerner being behind it. Little information on the upcoming place has been given other than Redd telling the Globe that it will be a "neighborhood haunt" and that "I'm excited to get back into the approachability of craft cooking. We're not doing a lot of heavy construction. It's got great bones, and we're preserving a lot of the patina that's there, keeping the fireplace." It isn't known exactly when The Hollows might open, though the article says that the trio will take over the space sometime this spring.

Rudy's first opened in 1982, offering such options as nachos, tacos, burritos, enchiladas, quesadillas, and chimichangas, and it was also known in part for its margaritas.

The address for The Hollows is 248 Holland Street, Somerville, MA, 02144.

Little Steve's Pizzeria Is Returning to Boston

A few years ago, it was reported that a decades-old pizza place in Boston was closing, and now it is coming back, apparently with a different owner.

According to a licensing board hearing page within the city's website, Little Steve's Pizzeria has applied for a common victualler license to operate at its former address on Boylston Street where the Back Bay and Fenway meet, with the notice saying that it will have seating for 43 and a seasonal patio, and the notice also lists Koushik Babu Koganti as the manager; this is presumably the same Koushik Koganti who is involved with such spots as Godavari, Boston Halal, Madras Dosa, and other businesses in the local area including the upcoming Don't Tell Aunty.

Little Steve's Pizzeria, which first opened in 1968, was looking to be replaced by another restaurant in 2021, but those plans apparently fell through at some point, while Universal Hub also mentions that a dispensary had been looking to open there as well and those plans never came to fruition, either.

The address for the Little Steve's space is 1114 Boylston Street, Boston, MA, 02215. Its website can be found at https://www.littlestevespizza.com/

A landmark Rhode Island restaurant that has been in operation for more than six decades is going away, and two new dining/drinking spots will be taking over the space.

According to an article in The Providence Journal, Joe Marzilli's Old Canteen in the Federal Hill section of Providence is planning to close down this weekend after 67 years in business, as the Atwells Avenue space has been purchased by the Heritage Restaurant Group of Newport. The hospitality group--which plans to preserve the historic character of the space--will open Wally's Wieners on the first floor, joining two other locations in Newport and featuring hot dogs and smash burgers, while a speakeasy-style cocktail lounge called Copper Club (which is also located in Newport) will open on the second floor, with both hoping to debut in March.

Joe Marzilli's Old Canteen first opened in 1956, featuring old-school Italian-American fare and attracting such well-known people as John F. Kennedy, Jackie Onassis, JFK Jr., and Buddy Cianci; in 2022, Sal Marzilli (whose father Joe founded the restaurant) said that he was looking to retire and put the restaurant up for sale.

Bone & Bread Is Shutting Down Operations

The people behind a local food truck and a taproom kitchen are saying farewell to both.

According to a Facebook post, Bone & Bread is shutting down operations, with the post saying the following:

It is with a heavy heart to announce Bone and Bread is going out of business. We are beyond devastated to have to do this. As of Friday January 31st. we will be leaving our joined location in Brighton with @widowmakerbrew Taproom and Kitchen as well as taking our beloved food truck off the road. We must do this for too many reasons to list or get into. It ultimately doesn't matter why we are closing as we would rather focus why we started and continue to offer the best possible product to the end.  We are so thankful for all the support from our customers over the past few years. You helped make a dream come true and we will be forever grateful.

Bone & Bread first started out in 2021 as a food truck operation, expanding to the kitchen at the Brighton location of Widowmaker Brewing a couple of years later.
