Kitchen Table in Beverly Has Closed

A restaurant on the North Shore that was known for its locally-sourced fare has shut down.

According to multiple sources, Kitchen Table in Beverly is no longer in business, with an Instagram post from the Cabot Street spot saying the following:

With heavy hearts, we have closed the doors of Kitchen Table. To everyone who joined us for dinner, pulled up a seat at the bar, celebrated with us, ordered takeout, or told a friend about us - thank you. Every visit mattered. We built this place around cooking from scratch, sourcing thoughtfully, and taking care of people. Those commitments weren't always the easiest path, but we're proud of the food we served and the hospitality we shared. To our local farmers, fishermen, growers, and producers: thank you for the ingredients, care, and craft you brought through our kitchen doors.

Kitchen Table first opened in the summer of 2023, with chef Bill Fogarty (who had previously been the chef/owner of Scratch Kitchen in Salem) being behind it. The restaurant offered such items as clam chowder, wings, roasted chicken, lemon pepper pollock, roasted pork shoulder, fingerlings, and more.

The address for the now-closed Kitchen Table in Beverly was 392 Cabot Street, Beverly, MA, 01915.

Xi'an Famous Foods to Open in Boston's Downtown Crossing

An award-winning group of Chinese restaurants based in New York City that is known in part for their hand-pulled noodles is expanding to the heart of Boston.

According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, Xi'an Famous Foods is planning to open in Downtown Crossing, with the poster (and the photo shown with a sign up for the place) indicating that it will be moving into the space on Washington Street that had been home to a location of b.good. This will be the first brick-and-mortar location of the eatery to come to the local area, though it isn't their first foray into Boston as there had been a ghost kitchen that debuted on Shirley Street in Roxbury last year that is no longer in operation. (Currently, the only locations of Xi'an Famous Foods are in NYC's boroughs.)

In addition to hand-pulled noodles, Xi'an Famous Foods--which has received accolades from such publications as Bon Appetit, Forbes, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, and Time Out--also offers dumplings and burgers on flatbread buns.

The address for the upcoming location of Xi'an Famous Foods in Downtown Crossing is 255 Washington Street, Boston, MA, 02108. The website for the business is at https://www.xianfoods.com/

Fumo to Open in the Former Nine Restaurant/No. 9 Park Space in Boston's Beacon Hill Neighborhood

It looks like a group of Italian restaurants in New York City will be expanding to Boston, with a location being planned for a landmark space.

According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, Fumo is looking to open in the city's Beacon Hill neighborhood, with a licensing board hearing page confirming this while also confirming that it will be coming to the space on Park Street Place that had been home to Nine Restaurant, and before that, No. 9 Park. The notice mentions that the manager listed for the upcoming location of Fumo is Luigi Fanini, who is the managing partner of Fumo UES, and that Nine Restaurant Group, LLC, has petitioned to transfer its common victualler license to 9 Park St Restaurant Group LLC, which would be doing business as Fumo Beacon Hill. Fumo was first established in 2016 with a restaurant in the Hamilton Heights section of Manhattan and today has a handful of locations in NYC; it is known in part for its pizza and pasta dishes.

Nine Restaurant debuted in August of 2025, closing down in June of this year; it had replaced No. 9 Park, Barbara Lynch's flagship restaurant that had been in the space from 1998 to 2004 and which won countless awards over the years, including Outstanding Wine Program from the James Beard Foundation in 2012.

The address for the upcoming Fumo in Beacon Hill is 9 Park Street Place, Boston, MA, 02108. The website for all locations of Fumo is at https://www.fumorestaurant.com/

Osteria560 May Be Replacing Frenchie in Boston's South End

It looks like a new dining spot could be coming to the South End of Boston, and it would be replacing a French restaurant that has been around for approximately 10 years.

According to a licensing board hearing page within the city's website, Cazarossi, LLC, which is the company behind Frenchie on Tremont Street, is petitioning to transfer its common victualler license to 562 Tremont, LLC, which would be operating a restaurant tentatively named Osteria560 at the same location. The notice mentions that the manager listed is Matthew Burns and that the proposed dining spot would have a dining area, bar area, kitchen and greenhouse eating area on the first floor, along with a seasonal outdoor patio. More should be known about Osteria560 next week, so keep checking back for details.

Frenchie, which is a Parisian wine bistro, first opened in the early part of 2017, taking over the space where Kitchen had been, and before that, Pops Restaurant.

The address for Frenchie (and the proposed Osteria560) is 560 Tremont Street, Boston, MA, 02118.

Mochiko Hawaiian Has Opened Back Up at Boston Landing in Brighton

Last week, it was reported that a pair of restaurants known in part for their fried chicken and bubble tea had closed down, but now it appears that one of the locations has returned.

According to an Instagram post from the business along with its website, Mochiko Hawaiian reopens their Boston Landing location in Brighton today, with the post saying the following:

Regular service resumes October 6. Thank you for your patience during our brief pause—we truly appreciate your support and can't wait to welcome you! Mochiko Hawaiian Brighton at Boston Landing

The post doesn't say anything about the Newtonville location, and the Instagram page only shows the Boston Landing location so it appears that Newtonville will not be opening back up, at least for now.

A few days ago, Mochiko posted a note on their website that said "It was fun while it lasted. We enjoyed our time together + we tried hard to save it. Ultimately, we could not. Love the fam we built + we will miss you all." It is not known what decisions were made that resulted in the Brighton location to return.

The address for Mochiko Hawaiian at Boston Landing is 133 Guest Street, Brighton, MA, 02135. Its website can be found at https://www.mochikohawaiian.com/

The Moseley Opens at South Station Tower in Boston

Last fall, it was reported that a casual fine-dining restaurant was coming to a new mixed-use tower in Boston, and now we have learned that it is up and running.

According to a press release, The Moseley is now open at South Station Tower on Atlantic Avenue, being located on the ninth floor of the building. The new dining spot, which is open to the public and is part of David Morton's Episcope Hospitality, offers such options as a tuna hamachi poke bowl, cavatelli bolognese, and chicken paillard along with local beers, an extensive wine list, and craft cocktails, while the space includes an outdoor terrace with lounge and dining seating.

An earlier article mentioned that an all-day market and cafe called Proper Fare would be opening in the tower as well, and while it has also debuted, it is open to tenants and workers only; in addition, a private bar/lounge has come to the tower, too.

The website for The Moseley--which is open for lunch and dinner on weekdays and dinner on Saturdays--can be found at https://www.the-moseley.com/ while its Instagram page is at https://www.instagram.com/themoseley.boston/

A cookie chain that got its start in New York City has ceased operations, closing all stores including those in the Greater Boston area.

According to a source, Chip City has shut down, with the website for the business saying the following:

Despite extensive efforts to stabilize our business in the face of significant macro-economic headwinds, we have made the very difficult decision to close all of our Chip City locations. We are grateful to our dedicated employees and loyal customers who have supported us for the past 10 years.

Mixue Ice Cream & Tea to Open Locations in Allston and Quincy

A Chinese chain known for its soft-serve ice cream and tea options is on its way to the Greater Boston area, with two shops in the works.

According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, Mixue Ice Cream & Tea is planning to open locations in Allston and Quincy, with a check on the website for the business confirming this, though the Allston location also mentions Brookline (it appears that they may have mixed up Harvard Street and Harvard Avenue and it will apparently be coming to Allston as the Brookline address is residential). Once the two shops open, expect such options as ice cream, sundaes, milk tea, floats, coffee, and more.

Mixue dates back to 1997 when it was established in Zhengzhou; the chain currently has approximately 60,000 locations worldwide, including a handful in New York and California.
